"Are you okay?" A lady asked, handing me a coffee.
I wish I could say yes and mean it.
I wasn't okay. I was embarrassed at the way Romano threw me out of the office. Because of a woman!
I finally remembered. Its that bitch from the plane and then the party.
A part of me really thought he was going to put her in her place for talking to me that way but I guess that's not the case.
"Yeah, I'm fine" I said, smiling to sell my story. Appreciating her, I took the coffee from her
Never take anything from a stranger. Mother used to warn, so I held the cup firmly.
"Are you a new worker?" She asked dumping herself on the seat. "I saw you come out of the Boss office. You're his new PA? I guess he was arrogant right? That fucking prick" The lady huffed. What she said about Romano brought a smile to my lips.
That's the right word, sister
"I am not a new worker" I raised my face to look at her properly. She was very beautiful, with her jet black bob hair. She looked my age too.
Was I making a friend?
"You're not new? How come I haven't seen you around" She turned to face me, giving me a weird stare.
Sighing, I leaned back into the chair. "I'm...." I paused not knowing what to introduce myself as. It was shameful saying I'm the Don's fianceé when he was busy thrusting into any woman in his office.
"It's fine if you don't want to tell me" She sighed, adjusting herself on her seat. "Sometimes I wish I can bomb this place"
Laughing lightly, I asked. "Why do you say so?"
"First, I am so not happy leaving my beauty sleep to be here - okay, maybe that hot face makes this work less bitchy" She pointed at a male figure who was entering into the building.
He looked really familiar with the way he walked and his body build.
"Who's that?" I asked, squinting my eyes. I always knew I had little eye problems but i didn't know it had gotten this bad.
"You work here and you don't know the hottest new staff?" She looked at me in disbelief before turning back to her former direction. "Why is he walking towards us? Oh my God!"
Eager to see this 'hottest new staff' I calmly watched as he approached us. His face began to get clearer as he got closer.
Marco?
Oh shit! He works here. He must think I'm stalking him.
"Stalking me, Miss Thompson?" Marco grinned, showing off his white teeth. His gaze was solely fixated on me, ignoring the girl beside me
I noticed how her smile fell, replaced with a look of shock.
"Are you guys together? Oh my God! I'm so sorry" The girl gasped, her tone so remorseful.
Before I could tell her we weren't together, she stood up abruptly and sprinted away.
I didn't even get her name.
"What -"
"I'm not stalking you, Marco" I said, cutting him off. I dropped the coffee on the chair, running my hand on my dress.
"Okay?" He eyed me up and down. "Let me guess, your master dragged you here"
And dumped me outside, not caring. Very typical of him.
"What are you - oh, you work here now" I didn't want to answer his question because he made it sound like I was just a puppet. It was degrading and I was ashamed
"Let's go to my office. If you don't mind though" He offered, stretching his hand to me.
I looked around at the guards who were acting like they weren't keeping an eye on me. Well, they can fucking relay this message to their boss, if he even cares to look for me.
"Sure" Placing my hand on his, I stood up. When we got to the door, Marco was being held back by a guard, who leaned in to whisper in his ears. Marco nodded before unlocking his office for me
"What did they say?" I folded my hands, giving Marco a pointed look.
"Not to help you escape or they'll fuck me up" Marco laughed lightly, shaking his head. "You're really a prisoner. Care to tell me how you got into this mess?"
Groaning, I threw myself on the couch. His office wasn't as big as Romano's office but his had life in it and wasn't so dark and dull like Romano's office. "That's a story for another day"
"You know I don't mind being fucked up. Just say you want to escape and I'll find a way" Marco said calmly, sitting on the couch as he stared down at me. His gaze was soft and alluring. "I feel like this is all my fault"
Why would he feel that?
"How? You're the one who gave me out to the devil" Paying attention to him now, I could see the glint he had in his eyes. Adoration? Love?
Love?
Pfft! Do I know what love is?
He leaned in, placing his hand on my cheek. His eyes were now cold and sinister. I had never seen him look this way and so it made me adjust uncomfortably "That bastard gave you out, didn't he? His debt caught up with him and he fucking used you as collateral?"
"It's been months now. I'm getting used to it. Don't bother about me. I always find a way to survive." I smiled weakly at him.
He closed his eyes for a while before opening them, his gaze was now softened. This was the Marco I knew. "I could offer to pay him off for you"
"You would?" My eyes shone in surprise.
"Yes, Baby girl" He smiled, caressing my cheek as he leaned in more.
"Romano wouldn't let me go" My gaze fell to my lap. "I'm a Mafia property."
"Not yet. You're not married to him" He said, his hands on my exposed thigh. My breath hitched, my eyes on his hands.
"Marco...." My breath quickened as I leaned into his touch. I knew what I was about to do was wrong but yet I kept leaning forward.
Romano was busy with a woman so why can't I be busy with another man?
He brushed his thumb on my lips, smudging my lip stick.
"I miss you, Jadelyn. I miss you so bad" Marco held me closer.
"I can't do this, Marco" I whispered breathlessly.
"Jadelyn!!!!!" A voice yelled, making me pushing Marco backward. When my eyes met his, I just wished the ground would open for me to fall inside.
