I pressed a kiss to Elara's forehead, savoring the peace of this moment with her curled up against me.
For a while, I wanted to forget everything else.
But I couldn't ignore reality. As much as I wanted to believe that our future was almost here, I knew the work wasn't done. I still had to hold onto Isabella, at least for a bit longer. Until I could finally cut her loose.
Sighing, I gently nudged Elara off me, slipping out of bed. The sheets rustled as she sat up, watching me with a look that held both curiosity and frustration. She wanted answers, something to hold on to, and I couldn't blame her.
"Leaving already?" She asked, her tone filled with disappointment.
I pulled on my shirt, taking a deep breath. "I have things to do, Elara. You know that."
