Chereads / Monster Monarch Evolution / Chapter 29 - Legacy of the son

Chapter 29 - Legacy of the son

Entering the store, everyone is already there, a bunch of new faces all of them older than them by years. All of their frames are covered in dust from the mines and parting them, Blaise emergers with a smile tugging at the corners of his face before it switches to amazement.

"Mrs Morgan?" He voices, eyeing her up and down in disbelief. "You're in it as well."

"Yes." She says sternly. "I would do anything to protect my husband and the little kids of this village."

"So is this everyone?" Legion questions looking around at all of them mingling with each other, even though the space was so cramped.

"That's right, the rest of them weren't willing to join." He says replaying the memories of the past. "You know, with the past experiences… But they said they won't report anything to the orc's."

"I see, this should work, we just need a good amount of people and this should be enough." He shakes his head in approval. "Good job." But his eyes catch a man in the corner looking around observing everyone quietly.

Neither catching up with the rest of them or talking, only twirling his silver streaked brown hair around his fingers.

"Thanks, though I still don't understand why Noctis isn't here yet."

"She isn't?" Legion looks around. "How come it shouldn't be that long."

Did she get caught? She said it was the first time trying out the potions so did it get her caught? Nevertheless that isn't the only question, if she doesn't find out what the barrier object is what do we do?

"We can just find another way." Cinder interjects. "It shouldn't be too hard."

Your right-

"I'm here!" Noctis burst in out of breath. "I'm here…"

Turning to her, Blaise and Legion approached, and everyone else just stared at her. "Are you okay?" Blaise was the first to ask.

"Yeah, I'm fine I ran here, sorry." She fixes her posture and glasses, turning to Legion a look of defeat on her face. "I-"

"You didn't find it." He answers before her. "It's ok, we'll find a way around it."

"Ok.." She says relaxing her muscles.

"Then may we begin, this?" Blaise chimes in. "I bring the people, now all we need is someone to talk to them, Legion?." Legion and Noctis face each other then back at Blaise as he steps back, knowing what their looks mean.

"No not me—" Soon or later he ends up on top of the desk in front of all of them with a blank face not knowing what to say. "Why me." He turns and whispers down at them.

"Because, your father was the one that led them, so it's only right that his son lead them again." Legion whispers back.

This is his time to shine. Not mine. I've done my fair share of motivational speeches and look where it got me betrayed, but I won't let that happen to Blaise.

"I…"

He stammers at first, but then he stops taking in a breath as he views all the people who came because he asked them to. The same people who fought side by side with his father and even to the end when he was killed they still stood by his side.

"I'd like to thank you!" He bows instantly catching all of them off guard. "For supporting and staying by my father's side through his rebellion! I'd like to thank you for coming back here again when I ask and helping me look after my mother!"

"It's ok." One person says and everyone joins in adding in their thoughts on the matter of his gratitude. "I did it because I believe in him."

The last part stood out to Legion. No matter how many times the people he ruled or fought for claimed they trusted him or believed in him, not once had they phrased it like that. Not once had they said, "We did it because we believed in him."

There's a clear difference between my people and his. I guess I was just destined to turn out this way.

Betrayed.

"I know I can't be like my father, placing hopes and dreams into your heart again. But there's a difference between being alive and truly living and I want both. Just like my father once did, yet this is different. If we don't do something right now…"He pauses, swallowing hard. "We'll all die."

Mumbles erupt almost immediately. "What do you mean?"

"We are no longer safe here. I can't go into details, but I hope you can trust my words. You don't have to believe in me, but trust in my actions, like you once did with my father. I know I can never be like him, but I am his son." He sighs before adding, "I'm not asking for blind faith—just the same trust you once gave the man who taught me everything I know. And if you can't, then I understand."

I see.

"What do you see?" Cinder inquires.

I see the difference in us now.

Before I used to force them to believe in me. Since I was their saviour I demanded every bit of trust they gave out.

"But you changed. "Cinder says quietly.

Well they do say change comes after trial and error and I went through it twice so my only instinct was to change.

I'll no longer become that person from the past. Shoji shall stay buried in the depths of time and never be let out. Now I'll be Legion, I will forge a new name for myself, as a monster if I have to. And this time it will be different.

"I trust you!" A person breaks the silence, and an old man as he steps forward. "I'm already old and my days are checking up on me." He clenches his fist and points it to Blaise. "I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of dying for nothing, and you, my child, have given me a purpose again."

"Yeah, I'll trust in your words too!" Another one puts up his fist, and the rest of them join in. "Blaise! Blaise! Blaise!" They chant his name as he stands dumbfounded.

It's like I'm watching myself from the past. No, I'm watching history of this time pave a new part for itself, everything will change, I know it.

[No name's pov]

"I see, too, Legion."

"This timeline shall be different from the past eight. Well, it is the last timelines this current universe can hold."

"The Age of Monsters has begun. Let's see how the rest of the ages will play out."
