As the sun rose in the morning, Luna and Stella woke up to the sound of chirping birds. They stood up from their beds and played rock-paper-scissors to decide who would arrange the beds. Luna won and entered the bathroom first to bathe while Stella, who lost the game, tidied the bedroom and brought out their school uniforms. They attended a community high school.
The twins were close despite their playful teasing, and their shared experiences and dreams strengthened their unbreakable bond.
Luna emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her hair, and with a questioning look, asked Stella, "What hairstyle should we do today?"
Stella thought for a moment before replying, "Two buns and bangs, I think. It'll look cute."
Luna nodded in agreement, "Okay, let's do it." As Stella made her way into the bathroom to take her turn, Luna dressed herself in their uniform: a plaid shirt, skirt, and white shirt, along with black shoes and black leggings—the standard high school uniform in their community.
As Luna checked the time, her eyes widened in alarm. "Oh no, we're running late!" she exclaimed, her voice a mix of urgency and frustration. "Stella, come out! We don't want to be late for school!"
Stella emerged from the bathroom, dressed in her uniform and looking a bit sheepish. "I'm sorry, sis," she apologized. "I got a little carried away."
"It's okay," Luna replied, her tone softening. "Just come over here and help me with my hair, and I'll do yours after."
Stella made her way over to Luna, who was perched on a chair by the vanity mirror, and began separating her sister's wet hair into two sections, carefully twisting and pinning each section into a tidy bun. As she worked, Stella couldn't help but admire the way Luna's bangs framed her sister's beautiful face.
"Your hair is so long and thick," Stella commented, marveling at the abundance of locks that fell past Luna's shoulders.
"Thanks," Luna replied, blushing slightly. "Your hair is pretty too, sis. It's so straight and shiny."
the only distinguishing feature between the twins was their hair. While Luna's was long and thick, Stella's was straight and silky, falling just past her shoulders. As Luna took over the styling, she mirrored the same two-bun hairstyle on Stella's hair, carefully replicating the look to ensure the twins looked as similar as possible.
The sisters exchanged glances in the mirror, their identical faces smiling back at them with delight. "We are twining," Luna said, unable to contain her excitement.
With their freshly styled hair and school bags slung over their shoulders, Luna and Stella made their way down the stairs, their feet thumping on each step. As they reached the bottom, they spotted their younger brother, Daniel, happily munching on pancakes at the dining table.
"Good morning, Mom," the twins chorused as they greeted their mother, who was busily preparing breakfast. They took their seats at the table and began digging into their food.
"Girls, did you remember to call Chloe's mom for a ride?" their mother asked, stirring the pancake batter in the bowl. With their freshly styled hair and school bags slung over their shoulders, Luna and Stella made their way down the stairs, their feet thumping on each step. "Chloe's mom?" Stella repeated, a look of realization dawning on her face. "Oh no, I almost forgot!" she exclaimed, her hand flying to her forehead. "I'll call her now," she added, reaching for the new smartphone that their mother had gifted them.
Luna shook her head, amused by her sister's forgetfulness. "You're such a scatterbrain sometimes, Stell," she teased, a playful smirk on her face.
Stella just rolled her eyes and smiled, as she dialed Chloe's mom's number.
"Good morning, Mrs. Jacobs," Stella greeted Chloe's mom cheerfully over the phone. "I hope you're having a lovely day."
"Good morning, Stella," Mrs. Jacobs replied warmly. "What can I do for you today?"
"Well, I was wondering if you could give Luna, Daniel, and me a ride to school today," Stella asked, her voice hopeful.
"Of course, dear," Mrs. Jacobs responded. "I'm almost ready. I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Thank you so much, Mrs.
Stella hung up the phone with a relieved sigh, turning to Luna and Daniel with a smile. "Chloe's mom said she's almost ready. She'll be here any minute."
"That's a relief," Luna replied, her shoulders visibly relaxing. "I was starting to get worried we'd have to walk."
Just then, they heard the familiar rumble of Mrs. Jacobs' car pulling into the driveway. Luna, Stella, and Daniel quickly finished their breakfast and hurriedly grabbed their bags, ready to head out the door.
The twins and Daniel made their way outside, greeted by the sight of Mrs. Jacobs' familiar minivan and Chloe, their bubbly best friend, standing by the car. The twins exchanged hugs with Chloe, their smiles bright as they took in their friend's familiar face and freckles.
"Hey, Daniel," Chloe said, her voice friendly and warm. "Why don't you sit up front with my mom? I have something to discuss with the girls."
Daniel, happy to oblige, climbed into the front passenger seat as the twins slid into the back.
Once the girls were settled in the back seat, Chloe turned to face them, a mischievous grin on her face. "So," she began, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper, "I saw your video yesterday."
Luna and Stella exchanged glances, their excitement palpable. "It's up to 20 views now!" Luna exclaimed, unable to hide her pride.
"Wow, 20 whole views," Chloe teased, rolling her eyes playfully. "You guys are practically famous."
"Hey, it's a start!" Stella retorted, her voice full of mirth.
Chloe let out a good-natured laugh. "I'm just kidding," she said, ruffling Stella's hair. "Honestly, I think your music is great. You guys should enter that talent competition that's coming up."
Luna's eyes lit up at the suggestion, her thoughts already racing ahead. "A talent competition? That could be a great way to get our name out there," she said, a hint of excitement creeping into her voice.
Stella, ever the cautious one, was more hesitant. "I don't know, Luna.
"We've never performed in front of a live audience before," Stella continued, her voice reflecting her concerns. "What if we mess up, or no one likes us?"
Chloe reached out and placed a reassuring hand on Stella's shoulder. "Come on, Stell," she said, her tone gentle but firm. "You can't let fear hold you back. You guys have real talent, and I think you'd be amazing on stage."
Luna nodded in agreement, her enthusiasm for the idea growing. "Chloe's right," she said, turning to her sister.
"We've been making music together for years, Stell," Luna continued, her tone growing more impassioned. "This is our chance to show the world what we can do. We can't let fear stop us from pursuing our dream."
Stella remained quiet, her mind still turning over the possibilities. Finally, she sighed and looked up at her sister, a determined glint in her eye. "Alright, you're right.
Chloe's eyes widened in surprise, a smile spreading across her face. "Really? You're going to do it?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement.
