Seeing that Haruto truly had no intention of resisting, Sasuke coldly responded, "Fine! I want to hear what you have to say."
Haruto took a sip of tea, his expression thoughtful, and asked, "Sasuke, what do you think the Uchiha clan needs most right now?"
"Revenge!" Sasuke gritted his teeth, his voice sharp with conviction.
"Revenge? Hah..." Haruto shook his head slightly, pushing another cup of hot tea towards Sasuke.
Sensing the disdain in Haruto's tone, Sasuke yelled angrily, "Am I wrong? My brother—no, Uchiha Itachi—destroyed our clan! I must kill him with my own hands! I know those who died that night would want me to!"
Haruto replied calmly, "Revenge takes time. With your current strength, are you really capable of killing him? You don't even know where Uchiha Itachi is. So how can you talk about revenge?"
Sasuke was momentarily silent, unable to argue. Still, his eyes held a stubborn glint. "I... I'll train hard. My talent will surpass his! When that time comes, I'll scour the earth until I find him!"
Haruto remained composed. "Have you thought about how long that might take? Five years? Ten? Maybe even longer? What about the Uchiha clan's land here in the village? Will it just continue to decay, abandoned and overgrown?"
"I..." Sasuke began, but couldn't find the words to continue. He had never considered Haruto's perspective. His entire focus since that tragic night had been on revenge.
Haruto pressed on, "Sasuke, do you know what I think the Uchiha clan needs most right now?"
"What?"
"People."
"People?"
Sasuke hadn't expected that answer.
"Yes," Haruto continued, "the Uchiha clan needs to grow. Unity brings strength—not just in power, but in status, wealth, and influence. If we increase our numbers, we can rebuild and regain our place in Konoha, or even beyond."
Sasuke was perplexed but couldn't deny that Haruto's words carried some weight. He stayed quiet, eager to hear more.
"So, our top priority should be replenishing our population. Reviving the clan's economy and vitality is essential."
Sasuke hesitated for a moment, thinking back to the scene outside Haruto's house. "Is that why you've gathered so many people? To grow the Uchiha clan?"
Haruto nodded. "Exactly."
"Hmph... don't be ridiculous," Sasuke scoffed. "Those people you've brought in—they're not even Uchiha. They don't carry our blood. How can they be part of the clan?"
Haruto's expression became serious. "You're right, they aren't Uchiha by blood. But what if they bear the children of our clan?"
"!!!"
The realization hit Sasuke like a lightning bolt. That was Haruto's plan all along.
Sasuke suddenly recalled the women he had seen from the clan gates all the way to Haruto's house—no men, only women.
"Haruto, are you... trying to ensure the continuation of our bloodline?"
Haruto chuckled. "Exactly. But don't worry, Sasuke. I'll take on this responsibility myself, for now. You're not ready for it. Focus on your training for the next ten years. You're more talented than me, so leave the children to me. You need to focus on your revenge."
Sasuke let out a sigh of relief. He much preferred training to the idea of bearing the responsibility of rebuilding the clan through marriage.
"Sorry, Haruto... I misjudged you earlier. I thought you were just driven by lust, but I didn't realize you had thought this through so deeply."
"What did you just call me?"
"Haruto... brother."
In all their time together, this was the first time Sasuke had ever called Haruto his brother. It struck a chord within Haruto, perhaps because they were the last remaining members of their once-great clan.
Haruto embraced Sasuke, promising firmly, "Don't worry, Sasuke. I'll make sure the Uchiha clan rises again to become the strongest ninja clan, in every way."
Sasuke nodded without hesitation. "And I'll kill that man, avenging all the Uchiha who died that night!"
Haruto smiled, looking Sasuke directly in the eyes. "Then it's settled. You focus on revenge, and I'll focus on rebuilding the clan. We have different tasks, but they lead to the same goal."
Together, they declared in unison, "Revive Uchiha!"
…
Haruto didn't intend to tell Sasuke the truth about Itachi. There was no need. Itachi had made his choice, and Sasuke had made his. The bond between brothers was something Haruto couldn't interfere with.
Besides, even if Haruto explained, Sasuke wouldn't believe him. It was better this way—better for Sasuke to remain focused on his hatred rather than slipping into confusion and despair.
After learning of Haruto's "clan revival plan," Sasuke seemed to shift in demeanor. He even began managing the crowd outside Haruto's house. With Sasuke overseeing the formation, the women outside were far more orderly, and disputes disappeared entirely.
As the moon climbed higher into the night sky, Haruto completed his final interview for the day, concluding his efforts to recruit potential wives. Despite the long, exhausting day, neither Haruto nor Sasuke felt like sleeping.
Together, they sat under the lamplight, dividing up the properties on the Uchiha land for the women who had passed the interviews.
Out of 188 interviews, 120 women were accepted. Haruto's standards weren't particularly high—infertility wasn't even an issue in the face of his unique "Ninjutsu: Progeny Technique."
The 68 women who failed the interview were simply those whose appearance or age Haruto found unappealing. Simply put, he found them unpalatable.
Some were so unattractive that the thought of sharing a bed with them would have likely given him nightmares.
"Get some rest, Sasuke," Haruto said, "You're still recovering. Let me handle the clan's affairs for now."
"I'm fine, Haruto. I think more women will come for interviews tomorrow."
Haruto nodded. "Likely. I only posted the recruitment notice this morning. There will probably be more women in the coming days. Some of the women I've spent time with before haven't even come today. I expect they'll start showing up soon."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "You're so sure? Maybe they've already married someone else."
Haruto smirked confidently. "Impossible. Once a woman spends the night with me, she won't want another man. That's one of my... gifts."
Sasuke blinked, confused. "I don't really get it, but it sounds impressive."
Haruto ruffled Sasuke's hair. "One day you'll understand, but it doesn't matter for you. You've got other things to worry about."
