"Well, I was being presumptuous, thinking that getting spells meant I was already a wizard."
"But luckily, I got the wizard profession. Otherwise, I might not have been able to even enroll at Hogwarts."
Cro shook his head, sighing.
"System, open my character panel!"
[Host: Cro Wells]
[Profession: Wizard Lv1]
[Talent: Photographic Memory]
[Spell: Levitation Charm Lv1]
[System Backpack: 500 Galleons]
"I guess this is the first step!"
Cro looked at the panel, nodding in satisfaction.
[Detected: Two strong emotions of pity]
[Reward: Two Bronze Treasure Chests]
The system's notification made Cro pause for a moment, then he quickly realized.
These two Bronze Chests must have come from Hermione's parents.
Hermione probably told them about his story, which triggered these two treasure chests.
Who would've thought?
Hermione wasn't just a treasure girl herself, but she could also get other people to provide treasure for him!
Amazing!
...
"Dad, Mom! Hurry up, Cro is getting anxious!"
Hermione's urging voice came from the door.
Cro quickly resumed his sad and downcast expression.
Right now, his persona was that of a homeless, starving street kid.
Though in reality, he was homeless and starving.
Soon, the door opened from the outside.
Hermione walked in with two middle-aged adults.
As soon as they entered, Hermione rushed over to the bedside and began introducing them to Cro in her sweet, clear voice.
"Cro, these are my parents. They're both excellent dentists!"
"That's why my teeth have always been great—except my front teeth, which are a bit big—but no cavities, because I rarely get to eat sweets."
"That's also why you saw me buying buns instead of cakes."
As Hermione spoke, her expression became a bit downcast.
What girl doesn't long for sweets?
She wanted to eat delicious treats just like anyone else, but with both her parents being dentists, she could only dream of indulging in sweets.
Hermione's spirits dropped instantly, but Cro, hearing this, struggled to sit up weakly.
Seeing this, Hermione quickly shook off her disappointment and rushed to support him.
The Grangers, seeing this, retracted their hands that were about to help.
The two exchanged a surprised look.
This was the first time they'd seen Hermione so caring and attentive toward someone.
Feeling the almost weightless body leaning against her, Hermione's eyes once again filled with pity.
A child her age...
While she was worrying about sneaking sweets, Cro was giving his food to his younger siblings.
Her sympathy for Cro deepened.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
Cro was a homeless orphan.
Didn't that mean...
The more Hermione thought about it, the brighter her eyes became.
...
At Hogwarts, in a dimly lit office, candle flames flickered in the gentle breeze.
Professor McGonagall was busy at her desk.
Even though it was summer break, she hadn't chosen to rest.
After all, Dumbledore wasn't one to handle things himself.
Most of the work was left to her.
She had to prepare everything before the students returned to Hogwarts.
There were also acceptance letters to prepare for the new students.
"The acceptance letters are finally ready. I can't wait to see the kids' reactions when they get their letters by owl. They'll be so excited!"
"And that little one will return here this year, back to his world."
"I still don't understand what Dumbledore was thinking, leaving him with those people. He must have suffered a lot over the years."
"But it'll all pass. Once he's at Hogwarts, he'll make new friends, and everything will get better!"
Professor McGonagall murmured softly, a bit sad. She waved her wand, and a steaming cup of coffee appeared out of thin air.
Just as she was about to take a sip, the quill in the pen holder suddenly floated into the air.
"Hmm? Has the Quill of Acceptance and the Book of Admittance detected a magical outburst from a young wizard again?"
McGonagall put down her coffee and watched curiously as the quill floated toward a sheet of paper filled with names, writing a new name in an empty space.
Once it finished, the quill returned to the pen holder and stopped moving.
McGonagall picked up the list with a puzzled look and saw the freshly written name.
"Cro Wells? Just had his magical outburst after coming of age? What a lucky child—today's the last day for sending out acceptance letters."
"Looks like I'll need to prepare one more letter."
McGonagall smiled, putting down the list. She picked up her quill and carefully began writing on a piece of parchment.
She didn't find it troublesome to write a few extra letters.
In fact, she was happy to see another young wizard awaken.
Experiencing a magical outburst just in time before the acceptance letters were sent out—
The Quill of Acceptance and the Book of Admittance, linked to magical artifacts, only reacted when a young wizard awakened.
The fact that this child had his magical outburst at this time was proof that he was a lucky one.
...
[Detected: Strong feelings of relief]
[Reward: Silver Treasure Chest]
Cro froze for a moment when he heard the system notification.
This treasure chest clearly wasn't from the Grangers, and Hermione had already reached her limit.
So who just gave him a Silver Chest out of nowhere?
Sitting at home, and treasure chests fall from the sky?
Suppressing his confusion, Cro bowed slightly to the two adults in front of him.
"Mr. and Mrs. Granger, I'm terribly sorry to trouble you like this!"
"I didn't expect to faint all of a sudden. Thank you for saving me. If I ever get the chance, I'll repay you for your kindness."
Cro bowed slightly, expressing his sincere gratitude.
This wasn't fake either.
In his previous life, he had been raised with the belief that kindness should be repaid tenfold.
Even though he had a different body now, that belief hadn't changed.
If it weren't for Hermione bringing him back here today, who knows how things might have turned out.
Maybe some rich old lady would've taken him in...
And then..
