Chapter 88 - 88 Serum

In this world, there are two main bosses; the numerous Kabane roaming the wilds, and Amatori Biba. The Kabane outside are many and need time to deal with, while Biba was directly shot dead by Altair with just a few bullets. Honestly, this boss didn't go down with much dignity.

Even in the original storyline, this boss's death was also rather undignified.

Having been betrayed by his father, Biba sought revenge and killed him. However, his mind started to go astray, and he began to think that the world itself was flawed. He decided that the world needed to be destroyed. Conveniently, he had a scientist under his command who had done some research on the Kabane. With that little bit of research, Biba's arrogance began to grow.

It grew to the point where he started spouting about the philosophy of strength, with himself being the strong one in his rhetoric. But now, the so-called strong one was lying on the ground, covered by a white cloth, with only his peaceful face showing.

"This is the mighty brother you spoke of. From a stylistic point of view... yes, he does seem quite powerful."

Altair stood beside Amatori Biba's corpse, introducing him to Mumei, who had been brought over by the samurai.

"But as for the immense power you mentioned, I'm not sure what it was. All I know is that your strong brother couldn't withstand a single shot from me."

This child, who had been brainwashed and raised by Biba, completely broke down when confronted with the death of her brother, her worldview shattered once again by Altair's actions.

Altair didn't say much more to Mumei. He handed the devastated girl over to Ayame to take care of, and then he boarded the train with Kenshou.

All of Amatori Biba's men who dared to resist were shot dead. Here, resistance meant anyone who didn't put down their guns, kneel on the ground and clasp their hands behind their head. Anyone who didn't comply was killed.

The only ones left were some of the train crew, who were technical workers and didn't carry weapons, so they survived. The other survivors were the researchers on the train.

These researchers had something Altair needed; their research on the Kabane, and the blood serums capable of turning people into Kabane, or modifying human bodies.

The white serum and the black serum.

Although Altair could have conducted his own research on the Kabane, the world was still in the first stages of the Industrial Revolution, with very few precision instruments. Altair would have had to make everything himself, which was too troublesome. So, saving a step wherever possible was the best option.

On the train, the samurai discovered Kabane who had been imprisoned, further proving Amatori Biba's crimes. Of course, his corpse itself was evidence, as it clearly showed that he had become a Kabaneri.

Altair didn't bother with the Kabane on the train. He left them alive so that the samurai could use them for training. His main focus was the blood serums.

According to the researchers, the black serum was a catalyst that would turn people into Kabane, granting them immense strength for a short time, and then causing them to become the core of Fused Colony. The white serum, on the other hand, was an inhibitor that suppressed the Kabane virus and restored people to normal.

For Altair, the black serum wasn't of much research value. The main interest was in the white serum.

"Altair-sama, is this the medicine you mentioned that can fight against the Kabane?"

"That's right. If you're bitten by a Kabane, injecting this serum will prevent you from turning into one. This is Amatori Biba's research."

Hearing that the white serum could stop someone from turning into a Kabane, Kenshou's eyes filled with longing. In this world overrun by Kabane, such a thing was incredibly valuable.

"If you want it, I can give you a dose. But honestly, this stuff isn't all that impressive. It's just a low-level application. I plan to make an even better antidote based on it."

"Well…"

Kenshou, who had initially wanted a dose of the white serum, suddenly found it less appealing. Given Altair's proven track record, Kenshou knew that anything Altair said he could accomplish, he would. Since there was something better on the way, there was no longer any need for the white serum, so Kenshou remained silent.

Holding the white serum in his hand, Altair looked at the numerous extraction devices set up inside the carriage and was very satisfied. It turned out that not having to make these devices himself was the right decision... they had all been delivered to him.

In another world, before crafting equipment, Altair had to hammer everything out by hand. This was why the weapons he made in that world, like AK-47s and grenades, were always simple and not very precise because simplicity was effective.

Though he possessed Grey Wolf's intelligence and wisdom, that didn't mean he was exactly like him. Grey Wolf could create nuclear bombs with his bare hands, but Altair couldn't. He had to gather materials and craft things step by step. The difference was that Altair knew how to craft and what materials he needed, which was part of the Grey Wolf's intelligence.

"Get these things moved to the manor. As for how to move them, have the samurai ask the researchers. Make sure nothing gets damaged."

"Understood!"

After giving his orders, Altair didn't stay on the train. He left Kenshou to oversee things while he returned to the manor.

As for the other people on the train who had surrendered, they were all imprisoned, including Mumei, who was kept in separate confinement from the others.

To help Altair quickly develop an antidote for the Kabane virus, Kenshou personally supervised the dismantling of the research equipment under the researchers' guidance. The machines were then transported to the manor.

After an entire night of hard work, the equipment was fully installed in the room Altair had designated, and he immediately began his research.

With adequate instruments, Altair could fully utilize Wolf Wisdom. Building on the foundation of the white serum, Altair quickly developed an antidote capable of killing the Kabane virus without harming human cells.

Unfortunately, due to limited raw materials, only a small amount of the antidote could be produced.

Altair was capable of creating an antidote, but he couldn't create something out of nothing!

Indeed, life had been much easier in the last world. In the Highschool of the Dead world, Altair had developed a vaccine, then found the official authorities, handed over the vaccine formula, and all he had to do after that was distribute the mass-produced vaccines worldwide.

When it came to industrial strength, no country could compare to those four countries.

But here, in this world, those countries probably didn't even have steam engines yet. Altair had to rely solely on himself.

Relying only on himself to gather materials, Altair immediately summoned all the samurai in the manor to select a team.
