Chapter 44 - 44 The Long Path I Must Take!

For Altair, this world was merely a mission; once the task was completed, he could leave.

Just like when he played games before, this was just a game, and the characters in this world were merely NPCs. He would focus on characters he disliked, such as the main character, while he took special care of characters he liked, like Saeko and Shizuka.

However, Shizuka had long been left behind in the survivor gathering area, while Saeko had been by Altair's side since then. Over the two months Altair had been active in this world, Saeko had accompanied him the entire time.

When the system displayed that the mission was complete, a window popped up in front of Altair, showing the countdown for exiting the dungeon.

The countdown wasn't long, only 24 hours; after that, Altair would be forcibly kicked out of this event world.

Initially, Altair remained calm. He thought he wouldn't be able to bring anything out of the event except for the system rewards.

Since he couldn't take anything with him, he and Saeko hadn't become too intimate over the two months. Otherwise, he would feel reluctant to part ways.

However, after two months together, even without Altair taking the initiative, Saeko had still followed him wholeheartedly. Emotions had developed over this time, especially since Saeko was a character Altair had once really liked. After two months, he found himself feeling a bit reluctant to let her go.

When the countdown appeared, the system displayed another window, offering the option to take someone out of the event world as an extra reward.

Oh, now this was completely different! He could take his waifu with him!

Was he finally going to embark on this path?

Becoming a Planeswalker and continuously moving between various worlds clearly indicated a plot of gathering waifus, so his main quest was to collect waifus from different worlds!

What a wonderful prospect.

In response, Altair raised his hands in welcome. After all, he was a pure love enthusiast; the female leads only liked him for that kind of pure love.

Thus, Altair could take Saeko with him.

However, before doing so, he needed to ask Saeko if she was willing to come with him.

After gathering a bunch of things, Altair first bid farewell to the soldiers and scientists he had worked with over the past two months. These were friends who had accompanied him while deploying the virus vaccine worldwide.

After saying his goodbyes, Altair found Saeko.

In her room, Saeko was quietly sitting on the edge of her bed, holding the hilt of a lightsaber that Altair had previously given her. After handing it over, he hadn't asked for it back, and he had also given her some magical bullets so she could replace the battery herself when she used it up.

During this time, Saeko had followed Altair around spreading vaccines and had to engage in battles, often encountering many zombies along the way. Sometimes they were even surrounded by large groups of zombies, and Saeko would fight alongside Altair.

While other soldiers used their guns to fight, only Altair and Saeko chose to wield lightsabers. They had even developed some unspoken synergy during their battles.

Women's intuition was quite accurate, and Saeko sensed that something was off with Altair during this time. Their relationship had gradually drawn closer, but recently, Altair seemed to be intentionally distancing himself.

This made Saeko feel like Altair wanted to leave. She thought it was just a misconception; with the world in such a state, where could Altair possibly go? Yet her heart insisted that he wanted to leave.

However, Saeko's character made her reluctant to ask Altair directly, so she remained worried and unsure of what to do.

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

The knocking interrupted Saeko's thoughts. She put down the lightsaber hilt and got up to open the door.

Upon opening it, she saw Altair smiling at her.

"Altair-kun, what brings you here?"

"Why, can't I come?"

"No, of course not. Please come in."

Since Altair rarely came to find her, his sudden visit surprised Saeko, especially since he seemed quite different today.

"Altair-kun, did you come here for something?"

Saeko thought Altair seemed really good today; he must have some good news to share.

"Saeko, I'm leaving."

"Ah?"

Saeko was stunned. He seemed so happy, and yet he started with the news of leaving.

"Leaving?"

"Correct, I'm leaving. What I needed to do was to solve the zombie virus, and now that it's resolved, it's time for me to go back."

"Where will you go back to?"

"To where I need to return; a place no one in this world can find."

Altair looked at Saeko.

"To be honest, in the two months I've been here, you are the person I'm most familiar with, so there are some things I want to say to you."

"Saeko, I like you. I've liked you since the first time we met."

"During the time we've spent traveling the world together, I've grown to like you even more."

Upon hearing Altair's confession, Saeko was filled with joy, her face unable to conceal her happiness. But deep down, she had some concerns and couldn't help but voice them.

"But Altair-kun, you've been avoiding me during this time."

"Because I've been conflicted; there are some things I've kept hidden from you."

"What things?"

"Before coming to this world, I already had someone I liked, and she is still waiting for me to return home."

"You already have someone you like?"

Saeko was shocked, feeling her heart sink, but she quickly seized on an important point.

"Wait, Altair-kun, what do you mean by coming to this world?"

"Literally, I am not a person from this world."

With that, Altair revealed his background to Saeko.
