Chapter 35: To the Limit
Boom!
The sky trembled as immense waves of cursed energy were unleashed, and in that moment, one of the most powerful mages appeared, followed by numerous first-class sorcerers who had gathered for the battle.
"Hisagi!" Panda called out as he spotted Hisagi being treated by the Yokai priest. Rushing over, he took in the sight of Hisagi's gruesome wounds.
"How are you feeling?"
Hisagi opened his eyes and said, "Not as bad as those cursed spirits, but under no circumstances can we let them escape. For some reason, I believe they belong to an organized group of intelligent cursed spirits."
Hisagi's words shocked everyone. Panda looked up, his gaze falling on the demon hovering above the sky. His brow furrowed, realizing how much more disastrous this situation was becoming.
Hisagi stood up, no longer worried now that first-class sorcerers had arrived on the battlefield. With reinforcements present, there was little that could force him to fight again.
Hovering in the sky, amidst the darkness and demons, Hantengu and his companions paused. They eyed the group of sorcerers, who were raising their magic staves, ready to unleash powerful cursed techniques that could strike at any moment. Initially, their goal had been to kill Hisagi, but with their injuries from the last attack, fighting humans now didn't seem wise.
"Hantengu, what should we do?" A tree-like cursed spirit quickly asked for guidance.
With a brutal gleam in his eyes, Hantengu clutched his chest, his expression fierce. "Now that they're here, let's kill them all. Gojo hasn't appeared yet, so we can keep playing for a little longer. How can these lowly humans force us to retreat? Attack!"
"Understood!"
As soon as the cursed spirit's voice was filled with murderous intent, everyone unleashed powerful spells aimed toward the sky.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Hisagi had no idea what these cursed spirits intended, but he knew many would die in this battle. He quickly cast barrier spells to protect the weaker fighters.
The battle erupted in an instant, with powerful sorcerers charging onto the battlefield.
However, just as the fight was reaching a critical point, an incredibly loud crash suddenly echoed through the sky. Everyone looked up in shock. At the edge of the dark clouds, a bloodied figure appeared, holding a sword engulfed in terrifying orange flames.
Fear finally appeared on Hantengu's grim face as memories of his own death flooded back.
"You will die with that attack!"
Hisagi couldn't afford to let more sorcerers die in a battle he felt responsible for, so the moment he regained mobility, he launched his final attack before withdrawing from the battlefield.
"What is that?"
No one understood the words coming from Hantengu's mouth. But when they saw Hisagi holding a bolt of lightning, no one would ever forget what they witnessed. A young figure rose into the sky, surrounded by lightning. Fusing with the orange flames, the figure disappeared in an instant.
Hisagi moved incredibly fast. One second he was a thousand meters away, and the next, after reigniting the flames, he was less than fifty meters from Hantengu. He knew that demon had to die.
The sorcerers stood no chance of victory if Hantengu survived.
Hantengu had to die to minimize their losses.
"You will die, even if it's the last thing I do!" Hisagi didn't know where the strength to say those words came from, but as the orange flames fused with his body, he charged, determined to kill.
Boom!
The orange flames grew more violent around Hisagi, concentrating in his hands as he attacked Hantengu moments later.
"Kill him and retreat!"
All the cursed spirits moved to attack Hisagi, but the lightning was so powerful that many were gravely wounded before fleeing.
Hisagi's eyes locked onto Hantengu with a fixed intent to kill, and he would see it through. With lightning surging, he hurled it toward Hantengu's heart, and the demon paled at the sight of the attack.
But Hisagi had taken many risks. A cursed gravity technique sent him hurtling into a mountain, the impact splitting it in half.
Even so, the sword in his hands had already been thrown, piercing and shredding Hantengu's body as the demon let out a ferocious roar.
The sky rumbled with furious lightning, and all the sorcerers on the ground were stunned as the flames incinerated more than half of the cursed spirits on the battlefield.
The yokai priest, healing a sorcerer nearby, saw this but couldn't move—not until he finished treating the other mages around him. Once done, he rushed off in the same direction.
…
"I'm going to die like this." Hisagi didn't know the current state of his body, but the fact that he couldn't move meant a lot when assessing his condition.
His vision blurred from exhaustion, but he knew his Divine General was still fighting in the sky while the other demons had fled.
"You're terribly persistent, human. I'll kill you before you grow more powerful." Before Hisagi could close his eyes, a cursed spirit appeared before him.
Hisagi wanted to stand, but when he shut his eyes, he heard the sounds of a fierce battle. Opening them, he saw Panda fighting the demon. He knew this was dangerous, especially since the demon was using magic that broke through shields.
"Don't fight. Run."
Hisagi's words caught in his throat; he couldn't speak. As a spell hurtled toward him, he thought he would die.
"I won't let that happen!" Panda stood in front of Hisagi, his body swelling as he prepared to give everything in this life-or-death battle.
"Panda…"
"Hisagi, remember what I told you? The moment we became comrades, we swore to give our lives for one another, no matter the situation. You protected Toge; now I'll protect you, even if it costs me my life."
Hisagi could hold on no longer. Even if he didn't want to admit it, he had reached his limit.
But just as he thought he would lose consciousness, a calm voice rang out: "It's not time for you two to die... I want to reset the garbage in the world of Jujutsu, so I won't let my beloved students die here. Not when your dear sensei, the strongest sorcerer, is here."
