Chapter 32 - The Scale Increases

"I must reach him..." Hisagi blinked on the battlefield. Even now, he wasn't held back by the gruesome wounds on his skin, so moving through the sky posed no problem.

Boom!

As he wielded his sword, he took time to strike the cursed spirits that were twice his size, sending them crashing to the ground, creating massive craters. The gusts of wind from his blows left them temporarily out of combat.

When he reappeared on the ground, his long sword, surrounded by intense orange flames, pierced through their chests, incinerating every part of them.

"He's not dead yet... not until his soul burns, until there's nothing left of it." Hisagi intensified the flames around him, and they exploded as his killing intent grew stronger.

The fiery wind now carried the scent of burnt blood, making it impossible for those nearby, even outside the barrier, to ignore the scale of what was happening in this battle.

In the distance, flames falling from the sky like meteors were met by ice attacks, though to no avail, as the temperature continued to rise with each passing second.

Soon, no one would be left alive.

Hantengu lowered his gaze, watching Hisagi pull farther away from the battlefield, and frowned in displeasure.

He knew these flames were wearing them down. The fire they were defending against would soon do more damage than they could withstand. It was only a matter of time before they were defeated if the fight dragged on.

"I won't allow you to become a hindrance to my master's plans." Hantengu raised his hand, and numerous cracks in space appeared around him, launching massive ice spears at Hisagi, descending at a terrifying speed.

The immense size of these spears filled the sky, and if Hisagi hadn't been flying, he wouldn't have been able to see the angles to dodge them.

Hisagi noticed the attacks coming his way, and from experience, he knew this wasn't a controlled strike but rather one being hurled recklessly.

"This will work!"

Boom!

Enormous walls of fire erupted from the ground, and through his control of these pillars, countless compressed fireballs shot out, colliding with the ice attacks.

With a burst, Hantengu's body landed in front of Hisagi, who had stopped to survey the battlefield.

When Hisagi saw this, darkness emanated from his body. He blinked and fiercely attacked the demon, who had yet to make a move. "Incredible strength..."

Hisagi was surprised by how strong this demon was, even though he was a mage, but that surprise quickly turned into focused precision as he exchanged more accurate blows.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Hisagi's sword clashed against Hantengu's claws. He was confident he could advance, but at that moment, he sensed a presence approaching from the distance. When he saw it was a man with two horns on his head, he decided to retreat.

However, the proximity to that cursed spirit diminished, forcing him to change positions and shoot a lightning bolt, aiming with his right hand.

The explosion was anything but small, but hearing it and knowing his enemies were close, he unleashed another explosion, triggering a new pillar of fire.

Boom!

Retreating, Hisagi breathed heavily, his gaze fixed on his right arm, which was still dripping blood from the open wounds. He wasn't in as good shape as he'd like, but what comforted him was that the enemy had also sustained several cuts.

"I'm running out of spiritual energy; I'll have to focus more on my attacks!" Hisagi thought this as he dodged the attacks from the other demon that had started hunting him.

But in the next moment, a silhouette appeared beside Hisagi. Thinking he was about to be attacked, he prepared to defend himself. However, no attack came. Instead, the figure focused on attacking the cursed spirit on the ground.

Hisagi recognized it as Serpo, who was currently drenched in the blood of cursed spirits. The ground trembled from the pressure, and Hisagi took advantage, unleashing a barrage of scorching flames on the cursed spirit's body.

Boom! Boom!

The orange flames burned the cursed spirit's body, but at the same time, Hisagi frowned as he felt his left arm lose mobility. Things were no longer good enough for him to take any liberties.

From the sky, Hantengu watched Hisagi and, with a wave of his hand, a powerful pressure descended from above. Being attuned to his surroundings, Hisagi moved hundreds of meters away, panting heavily.

"Impressive flames, but they're not yet as developed as you'd wish. If they intensify further, they'll harm you too."

Hisagi broke into a cold sweat as he felt his body grow heavier by the second.

As Hisagi was about to move, he froze in place and instinctively created a powerful spiritual barrier, repelling the deadly attacks coming his way.

Boom! Boom! Boom!
