Chereads / Sovereign of Fate's Script / Chapter 8 - Valor

Chapter 8 - Valor

The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the academy grounds. I stood on the balcony of my dormitory, the cool evening breeze brushing against my skin. The vibrant hues of orange and purple in the sky mirrored the swirling thoughts in my mind. After my encounter with Selene, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being drawn into a web of intrigue far beyond my understanding.

The fate of others wasn't something to be taken lightly, and yet, the temptation to learn Selene's secrets gnawed at me. I had already changed my own destiny, bent it to my will using the Fate Scripts. Could I really do the same to someone else? I had to find out.

I closed my eyes, focusing on the warm energy surging through me. It was time to decide.

[Fate Script: Selene Valeria's Secret]

As soon as I selected the script, the world around me faded into darkness. I found myself in a void, empty except for a floating screen displaying a series of images and words. It felt like I was peering into the very fabric of Selene's fate.

Images flickered before me—a younger Selene, her silver hair glinting in the sun, practicing magic in a lush garden. Then the scene shifted. I saw her standing next to a tall, imposing figure, her father. He spoke with intensity, his hand gesturing as if he were laying out a path for her.

[Event Detected: The Choosing]

[Selene's father is pressuring her to follow a certain path in the magical arts.]

The pressure in her eyes was palpable, but she stood tall, determined. In that moment, I felt a surge of admiration for her strength. Selene Valeria was more than just a noble; she was a fighter, even against her own family.

Suddenly, the images shifted again, this time darker. I saw shadows lurking behind her—a group of figures clad in dark robes, their faces obscured. They were plotting, whispering her name with malicious intent.

[Event Detected: The Threat]

[A group intends to use Selene as a pawn in their schemes.]

A cold chill ran down my spine. I couldn't let this happen. I didn't know who these people were, but the thought of them targeting someone like Selene—someone who had shown me kindness and curiosity—sent a surge of protectiveness through me.

I focused harder on the script, searching for a way to intervene.

[Choose your action:]

Reveal the threat to Selene.Strengthen Selene's magical abilities.Confront the figures plotting against her.

I weighed my options, each one heavy with consequence. Revealing the threat might lead her to distrust me; strengthening her abilities could make her a target; confronting the figures could bring danger to both of us.

After a moment, I chose.

[Action Selected: Strengthen Selene's Magical Abilities.]

[Altering fate...]

The world around me rippled, and a warm light enveloped me. I could feel the surge of magic coursing through my veins, a connection forming between Selene and me. It was a strange sensation, like an invisible thread binding our fates together.

[Success: Selene Valeria's magical potential has increased by 30%.]

I opened my eyes, breathing heavily as the void receded, leaving me back on the balcony. The sky was darker now, the stars starting to twinkle above me. I felt exhilarated but also wary. Had I done the right thing?

There was no time to dwell on my doubts. I had to meet Selene and see if my actions had made any difference.

As I made my way to the academy grounds, I couldn't shake the feeling that my interference would have consequences. I might have just altered the course of someone else's life, and in doing so, I had opened the door to a larger conflict.

When I reached the training grounds, I found Selene practicing her magic under the fading light. She was focused, her hands weaving intricate patterns in the air as shimmering blue orbs danced around her, responding to her commands. I watched, mesmerized by her skill and grace.

"Ryuji," she called out, sensing my presence. The orbs dissipated, and she turned to me with a soft smile. "I was hoping to see you."

"Hey," I replied, my heart racing. "I just... wanted to see how you were doing after everything."

She raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk playing on her lips. "I'm fine. I always am. But thank you for checking in."

Her confidence made me feel a little better, and I couldn't help but notice a spark in her eyes—a glimmer of newfound strength, perhaps?

"Your magic looked incredible out there," I said, trying to keep the conversation light.

"Thank you," she replied, her expression shifting to one of seriousness. "But I've been feeling some strange changes lately, Ryuji. Like I'm being watched."

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. She could feel it too.

"Is there something you want to share?" I asked carefully, gauging her reaction.

Selene hesitated, her gaze drifting toward the horizon. "I think my family has enemies. People who want to use me for their own gain. But I won't let them. I refuse to be a pawn."

A surge of admiration and respect washed over me. She was brave, willing to stand her ground against forces far greater than herself.

"Then we'll fight together," I said, surprising even myself with the conviction in my voice. "Whatever comes our way, we'll face it together."

She looked at me, her expression softening, and for a brief moment, I saw the walls she had built around herself begin to crack. "I'd like that, Ryuji. I'd like that very much."

The bond between us had formed, solidified in the face of adversity. I knew the journey ahead would be fraught with danger and uncertainty, but with Selene by my side, I felt a flicker of hope.

But just as that hope ignited, a dark shadow loomed over us, a reminder of the threats lurking in the background. I had altered fate once more, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the consequences were only just beginning.
