Chapter 44 - 44. Publishing The 'Harry Potter' Novel

23rd December, 1992,

Los Angeles, USA,

Blue Star World.

Today is the day when this world will witness the craze that a fantasy novel may produce, because this world lacks the likes of pioneering fantasy novels such as "The Lord of the Rings," "Wizard of Oz," and "Game of Thrones."

The above-mentioned novels are well-known in his world for laying the groundwork for future fantasy works, such as introducing Wizards or Witches, Elf, Goblins, Trolls, Dwarves, or any other new races or fantasy world backgrounds from which other novels continue to draw inspiration even after a century.

However, this world has never been fortunate enough to benefit from a proper fantasy novel that can serve as a framework for other novels for a long time, making fantasy literature somewhat monotonous and lacking in depth.

This is also precisely why Billy Myer decided to let Sam take his shares and become a partner in his publishing company since he knows that anyone who writes a top novel that can serve as a referral foundation for any genre will undoubtedly be a market success.

Early in the morning, Sam and Pedro engaged in a hand-to-hand fighting duel, which helps Sam build muscle and increase his tolerance towards the pain.

After the usual morning routine, Sam steps into the car and informs Pedro to pick up Claire on the way to the publishing company.

Sam does not have any plans to go to the film shoot today because he already gave the crew and actors a half-month break, as Christmas is near.

Pedro drove to Charles' house, picked up Claire, and afterwards they went to the publishing company.

Claire still lives with her parents even though she is an adult because her family is devout Catholics who are also traditionalists.

Sam also likes his uncle Charles family since they are genuine people in Hollywood who are not involved in drugs, pornography, or other kinds of behaviors.

Arriving at the publishing house's entrance, Sam informs Pedro that he will be remaining here until the evening, allowing Pedro to return home if he needed.

Pedro, on the other hand, disagrees and informs Sam that he is not only Sam's driver but also his bodyguard, and that he will accompany Sam throughout the day.

After hearing Pedro's claim, Sam nodded and did not offer any further input because Pedro wanted to spend the entire day with him.

Sam escorted Claire and Pedro to the chairman's office, where Billy was already waiting for them with a few others.

As Sam enters the office, a man with spectacles and a thin beard dressed in an overcoat shakes his hand.

Billy was stunned, but he nonetheless presented Sam and others to their publishing house's head editor, Christian Green.

Christian, "What a wonderful story have you made, Mr. Sandles. I am really captivated by reading your novel at least three times until now, which has an amazing world background completely organized and written flawlessly."

Sam replied with a grin: "Yes, this is a story that I made after three years of writing because, while I was researching the fantasy novel category for an enjoyable story, I got very bored by noticing numerous similar novels in the market, and so I decided to create this novel for young teenagers around my age, particularly."

Claire inquires, "From what I know, selling novels in the market is a slow procedure, correct? So, just why are we gathered here today?"

Billy smiles up. "That is true for the rookie newcomers, but for novels of established authors or those novels that seem prominent for a publishing house, they get top marketing distribution before the release of the novel at least a month prior to ensure people who are interested in those specific genres become aware of the novel, which helps in selling the novel quickly."

Claire recognized and ranted that she had seen many ads and clips on television about the fantasy novel that was coming out in a few days, but she believed it was a novel by another writer, so she didn't pay much attention.

Billy keeps going: "Yes, for this novel we spend at least a million dollars on the promotion across the nation ranging from newspaper to television ads."

Sam interrupted their conversation and asked Billy, "What are the statistics of books sent to bookstores?"

Billy went through the documents on his desk and read them to Sam, stating, "A total of 50,000 books have been ordered by bookstores across the country as a result of our promotional efforts, but the average number of copies ordered is 500."

Sam nodded and looked at his watch, which read 9 a.m., and went on an inspection of the company because they would have to wait until the afternoon for the bookstores to collect their sales statistics and early feedback on his novel from readers.

Dexter Collins, a freshman at New York University, looked at his watch, which showed 9 a.m., and walked to the largest bookstore in his neighborhood to buy the latest fantasy novel from 'WM-Publishing' for his younger brother Dennis, who enjoys reading these types of novels.

Dexter liked fantasy novels a few years ago, but the same content was repeated in many novels, which bore him after a few viewings, so he now prefers the detective and suspenseful genres.

Dexter enters the 'White Angels' bookstore and asks the clerk, "Hey Jimmy, is the new fantasy novel available with you?"

Jimmy responds. "Yes, the new fantasy genre novel is called Harry Potter, and that book is available with us here; look at that shining black cover across you; that is the book."
