Chapter 46 - 46. First week's sales of Harry Potter

Three more days passed, and as of December 31st, the total number of books sold reached over 500,000 copies.

Sam and Billy were sitting in the chairman's office of 'WM Publishing', discussing the popularity of his work, 'Harry Potter'.

Billy, who had seen the recovery of his publishing company with this novel called Harry Potter, now fully believes in Sam's creativity and appears visibly younger than he had been a few weeks earlier.

Sam was also relieved that his first work ended up being an instant hit in the market on the very first week, which had some positive consequences for his next novel.

Los Angeles Times: This is a magnificent novel that focuses on teenage fantasies.

USA Today: Harry Potter is a one-of-a-kind fantasy story that delves into human sorrow, such as child abuse at the beginning of the novel.

Chicago Sun: The freshly released fantasy novel has swept the country, with record-breaking sales on its first week.

Sam reviewed newspapers from various media outlets, and the majority of them spoke positively about his novel because his novel is truly a masterpiece among fantasy genres and also because the effect of millions of dollars spent by his company on the promotion of the novel 'Harry Potter' has won the favor of media outlets.

In this parallel world, publishing houses generally do not spend much money to promote their novels in media such as newspapers and television given that they are already collaborating with bookshops to advertise their novels prominently on their front shelves, leading them not to waste money, which is unnecessary because novel enthusiasts are always going to bookstores to look through new novels.

So, as Billy previously indicated to Claire along with others, Sam has shifted the perspective of publishing businesses by spending money on promoting novels and books.

Afterwards, Sam and Billy further reached the decision to publish the "Pinocchio" book in February of the following year, so they could capitalize on the popularity of Harry Potter and remind readers that the same author created it as well.

Sam returned home by that evening to prepare for Uncle Charles's New Year's party at his big villa on Sunset Hill, which serves as the family's vacation residence.

Every few years, Charles throws New Year's celebrations at the large villa at Sunset Hill. Because hosting events can facilitate the meeting and opportunity for collaboration amongst industry insiders.

When Sam arrives at the big villa on Sunset Hill, he gets out of the car and proceeds to enter the main door, but looking around, Sam sees that the security is very tight.

After entering the door, Sam looks around for Charles and his family, while Elijah notices Sam and approaches him.

Sam finds Elijah standing in front of him and inquires, "What kind of work are you so busy with? I haven't seen you around much these days."

Elijah gives an explanation: "I am doing a lot of work these few months; as you know, the agents have to fight hard for finding resources for the client."

While Sam and Elijah were talking, Charles and Carolina approached them, and they embraced Sam and greeted him for the new year.

Then Charles asks, "How is your work going? All things are fine, right?"

Sam just grinned and responded, "It's fine, Uncle; everything is going according to plan."

Carolina then inquires about Sam's itinerary and advises him not to overwork himself and to take breaks as often as possible.

After then, the Rolex couple leaves Sam and Elijah to greet new guests.

Sam waves a hand to Claire, who is coming downstairs from the upper floor. She wore a beautiful red, dazzling gown with blue jewelry adorning her.

Sam praised Claire on her impressive appearance tonight. They exchanged a few more words while more guests appeared.

Claire left Sam's side when she noticed several of her girlfriends coming among the attendees and went to engage them.

Sam looked around and noticed his watch displaying 9 p.m., realizing that most film industry people arrive after that hour for the new year's party.

Almost all of the stars and actors attended the celebration, as did the CEOs of the top studios, who arrived around 10 p.m. Charles is one of the more influential individuals in this industry; therefore, many people attend his party, either to show respect or to get acquainted with one another and have the opportunity to collaborate with someone they want to work with.

Sam noticed Philip, the CEO of his studio, chatting amicably with Timothy Lee, the new President of the Rekzon studio.

Timothy Lee acquired the trust of the majority of the shareholders and persuaded them to remove the former president. Because the old president owns approximately 20% of the Rekzon Studios shares and is the highest-ranking stakeholder, others would need a majority vote to remove him.

Sam also met with Denis White, a black man who is a well-known vice president and executive producer at Rock-Pebble Studios. He is also in charge of Sparkling Studios and Rock-Pebble Studios' new musical film.

Sam also noticed Lewis, the new chairman of Big E Studios, chatting with various investors while flattering and encouraging them to invest in his new film ideas.

But more investors were willing to invest, but only in the 'Laugh in Mayhem' series because they believed in Sam's script.

However, Lewis was hesitant to grant them a share in the 'Laugh in Mayhem' movie series because he already knew that this project was solid and would undoubtedly generate revenue. So his goal is to allow these investors to invest in more risky scripts.

After speaking with some more investors, Lewis turned his look to Sam, with his eyes filled with malice.

Although the Big E studios have benefited from working with Sam, Lewis still dislikes Sam because he blames Sam for stealing a good producer like Philip. Lewis does not believe Philip left due to nepotism by his uncle and nephew and that Philip was also overlooked for his efforts throughout his tenure.

But Lewis could only glare at Sam with incapable resentment since he knows that he cannot compete with Sam in the field of film and television.
