Chapter 17 - July 17th, 1781

I've started to find Elikai's presence comfortable. It's likely his quiet presence in the coffee shop that is so unlike you, it angered me, because it made me think of you; only worsening my cycle of you, but now I only see him.

Just the son of my best friend.

Just a man who listens to me.

You were… perhaps the best thing ever. Elikai knows it, whenever I talk to him, our conversations always go into undesirable depths, in which one of us always ends up crying, mostly me. Elikai is probably the most in-depth person I ever talked with; he made me always talk about myself. His presence just makes me bawl everything, everything about the pain of your lack. He never steps out of line, and he is always in control of himself.

"Do you want me to help?"

His voice dropped out of nowhere as the last person in the shop left. He was looking at me and he stood up, walking towards me past the kitchen. "Are you sure you want to help?" He had a long white sleeved shirt with no stains at all. "I don't mind" he replied swiftly.

"You might get your shirt stained" I tried to come up with any excuse to not let Elikai help me. But as always, he always had a way to get past them. "It doesn't matter, after all its just a shirt" and so he started to help me clean. I stared at him for a while "How is work?" I asked him suddenly, knowing full well he couldn't answer me. He turned slightly and between his lips he smiled. "Do you want me to tell you the truth?"

"Hmm" he stared at me wondering what I was thinking "Whats the difference between the truth and the lie?" I turned around continuing to clean the dishes. Something about Elikai's work always makes me feel scared yet incredibly interested in what he truly does in the Special Services. Nobody knows what they do, they are always in the shadows. Working behind the scenes doing God knows what.

And that's what scared me about Elikai. But still I was curious.

"I suppose the lie is what everyone in society knows, and the truth is what I know"

"Are you implying that everyone is living in a lie?" I stopped washing the cup in my hands as the water kept running. I believe everyone already knew this. The way that this country lived was always covered by a lie. All by the System. The system in which they all adore and love. Was lying to them, but they knew, I know and yet here I am. Some- "Yes" He stated. Stopping my thoughts. His stone-cold answer was unlike him. He usually backs up his answer by a very well stated argument or reason. There weren't many times in which he did this. Katherine told me he did this because he is unable to say anything else. If he did, he could die.

"What about you?" – "Are you living a lie too?"

His golden eyes were still staring at mine. Not changing, staying constantly firm on what he had within his mind. Even though in his eyes, there was a pain he couldn't not say, they stayed within their limits.

"I do"
