Chapter 44 - Bus Number 6-Part 3

Avery was pissed, actually, that was an understatement, she was absolutely enraged. First, she was called in for a solo mission with a vague report, the only instructions being "Don't exorcise everything right off the bat!" Then, when she arrived she found two cocky streamers trying to get an 'authentic' ghost experience. What a joke, she didn't have time for this. She was supposed to be going on a date tonight but her boss called in at the last minute.

To top it all off, the streamers who she thought were a joke turned out to be somewhat knowledgeable. Not only that but the blonde one seemed to have strange abilities, there was a fucking floating camera following him around after all. When she went to interrogate him the bastard just smirked and suddenly she felt everything go blank.

Glancing around she found herself waiting by the river, someone was humming and it took her a moment to realize the voice was coming from her. She took a second look, this time searching her body, only to find that she had tattoos running up her arms and she was clearly a man. Before she could figure out what was going on a noise to her side drew her attention.

"Ah, seems like you really were planning to confess." Someone chuckles. There is a group of rough-looking men standing behind her, or whoever's body she's in.

"That's none of your business." The person whose body she's in states. The tattoos on his arms remind her of the ghost from the bus. That smirking bastard must have done something to her and now she was in his body, reliving his memories…or something.

"Well, I think it is. I laid claim to her first." The man in the middle replies. He's muscular with a small beard and a crew cut. She notices he's holding a metal bat in his hand, probably not a good sign.

"You can't lay claim to a person! I asked her to meet me out here, so why is it that you show up instead?" Tattoo man questions.

"A few buddies of mine got their hands on the letter before she read it, to think you'd have the balls to do this, hahaha." The man smirks.

"She didn't even get the letter!?" The tattooed man shouts in outrage.

"That's not what you should be worried about right now." The man says.

"Huh?" Avery doesn't get a chance to think before the man rushes her and swings the bat toward her head. She tries to avoid it but the body won't listen to her and she gets smacked in the head. Everything goes dark for a few minutes and when sight and sound return, she's face down in the river gargling on water.

"My father has quite a bit of influence in this area, so even if we kill you here and dump your body the police will rule it as suicide." The man laughs. It's a disconcerting feeling, she can feel the water entering into her lungs, but she recognizes this body isn't 'her' so the mental effect is just not there.

Why…couldn't I have at least confessed to June first?

She could feel those words in her soul along with a messy tangle of feelings as the world around her faded out of existence. She wakes up huffing for breath on the bus, the bastard and his friend are staring at her. No…that's not right, there's something heavy on her head, and as she moves a couple of coins fall.

"..."

"..."

"...Sorry." The bastard's friend apologizes.

"I fucking hate you two." She grumbles.

"Did you see it?" The bastard asks. Avery glances at the ghost waiting patiently in front of them before turning back to the duo.

"...Yes." She answers reluctantly.

"Great! Just tell him his last regret then." The bastard smirks. Avery glares at him before turning toward the tattooed ghost.

"The thing you wanted to do was confess to your love." She tells him. The ghost gets a glazed look in his eye before a big grin breaks out on his face.

"Thanks, I forgot about that!" He says cheerfully. The ghost then returns to his seat. They wait around in silence for a bit. Avery intentionally avoids the other two, and then the bus driver calls out the next stop. She watches as the tattooed ghost leaves the bus and disappears.

"...Who are you, how do you know about this stuff?" She questions the bastard. This whole situation is stranger than normal for her, leaving her annoyed and confused. If it was a regular work day she would've just ignored them and left them to the other Exorcists. Well, no use in grumbling about something she can't change.

"Hehe, like I told you, I'm a streamer, I just stream ghost stuff for people to enjoy." The bastard explains. Avery doesn't know what to think, a random fucking ghost streamer shouldn't be able to do these things. But he doesn't look like he's willing to explain any further. While she's staring at him, another ghost wanders over to them. This one is a teenage girl with a hole in her chest.

"Right, I was told you people were here to help?" She asks them.

"Yep! Alright, looks like it's your turn, Leslie!" The bastard exclaims.

"Uhm, I don't even know what I'm doing, but all right! " His friend shouts. The next second, he's passed out against the seat.

"Do you wanna draw on his face?" The bastard asks her.

"...Sure," Avery answers, albeit reluctantly. Waiting for the fool to wake up would take too long, plus she could get revenge for the coin thing. The bastard grabs out a sharpie and they spend the next minute drawing whatever they could on his face. There were spirals, mustaches, and other embarrassing things by the time they were done.

"Do you think he's going to be mad?" Avery questions.

"Nah, he probably won't even notice till he gets home." The joke is stupid, but despite herself, Avery laughs. Maybe this day would be more interesting after all.
