Kirito stared at the pill, its bright red color seeming to darken into a more ominous shade of black as he held it. It felt like the pill was *staring* back at him. He gulped.

"Yeah, maybe not today…" he muttered, deciding it was best to store it away for now. No need to kick off a civil war in his veins just yet. There'd be plenty of time for that later. He shoved the pill back into his inventory and sighed in relief. *Future Kirito problem.*

With that mini heart attack behind him, he turned his attention to the system. "Alright, what else have you got for me?" he asked aloud. "System functions!" he declared, full of confidence.

Nothing happened.

He blinked. "System functions *open*!" he tried again.

Still nothing. Now he was just staring at empty air like an idiot. He groaned. *There's gotta be some command, right?*

After a few awkward moments of silence, he gave up and muttered, "System menu open."

Suddenly, with the grace of a magical pop-up ad, the system menu appeared. Kirito rolled his eyes. "Of course that's the one that works…"

Several options appeared in front of him, each one labeled neatly:

- Status

- Inventory

- Missions

- Skills

- Shop (locked)

- Timeline (locked)

- Gate (locked)

Kirito raised an eyebrow. "Wow, this thing's got more functions than my phone." He chuckled. Normally, gamer systems didn't have this many features. For a second, he thought maybe he'd lucked out.

But then he remembered: *Wait... where's luck?*

"Is it possible…?" Kirito's eyes widened as an idea hit him like a lightning bolt. He shot up from his bed, excitement bubbling over, and raised his hand dramatically.

"*Create dungeon!*" he shouted with all his might.

*THUNK!*

A pillow hit him square in the face, launched by one of the nearby kids in the orphanage. "Shut up and go to sleep!" the kid mumbled, groggily rolling back over. Kirito stood there, frozen in embarrassment.

"Uh… guess nothing happened," he muttered, trying to salvage what was left of his dignity. The kids were already snoring again, and Kirito quickly plopped back down on his bed. "Right. No dungeon. Great. I'll just, uh, pretend that never happened…"

After a few moments of internal groaning and sarcastic self-mockery, he opened the *Missions* tab, hoping for some quest or goal to keep his mind off his embarrassing shout. But it was completely empty. Not a single mission in sight.

He sighed and moved on to *Skills,* hoping for something cool like *Gamer's Body* or *Gamer's Mind*. But when he opened it, his excitement quickly deflated. There were only two skills listed:

---

**Nerfed Gamer Body (Max)**:

Allows the user to exert 100% of their strength even at 1 HP. However, it does *not* prevent the breaking of bones or loss of limbs. No degradation of strength due to old age. Basically, a downgraded version of Gamer's Body.

**Tip:** "You are not a game player. This is not a game, but an actual world that Kishimoto lived in his previous life."

---

Kirito's eyelid twitched uncontrollably. "Nerfed?" He stared at the word, as if it was personally mocking him. "*Nerfed?* Of all the things, they gave me a *nerfed* Gamer Body? That's like saying, 'Here's a car, but we took the engine out so you can push it instead.'"

He shook his head, muttering under his breath. "Great, I'm a budget gamer now. What's next? 'Gamer's Mind' is just the ability to forget stuff when it's inconvenient?"

Still, after a few deep breaths and a few more sarcastic remarks, he calmed down. "Okay, it's not all bad," he reasoned. "Being able to exert 100% strength even at 1 HP is still pretty useful. Not many people can do that."

But then his eyes drifted to the tip, and he blinked in confusion as he read it. *Kishimoto lived in this world… in his previous life?* Kirito's mind stumbled over the idea. "Wait. You're telling me the guy who *wrote* Naruto lived here before?! So, all of Naruto is just a recap of his past life?"

Kirito's eye twitched again. "So that means… not everything in the story can be trusted. He probably didn't know every little detail of the world either! Even if he is damiyo he won't know everything Did he just *make stuff up* to fill in the gaps?!"

"Thats why that damn baruto is so bad he probably died after naruto became hokage"

He stared blankly for a moment, trying to process the absurdity of it all. "Oh, great. Just what I needed—a fanfic author as my only source of world knowledge. How much of this stuff is even *real*?"

Kirito thought about it for a while, his mind racing through the possibilities. But in the end, he just sighed. "Whatever. I'm here to change the plot anyway. Who cares about the little details?" He shrugged, deciding it wasn't worth stressing over. Major events were all that really mattered, and he wasn't planning on following Kishimoto's script too closely anyway.

Still, the thought lingered in his mind as he lay back on his bed. "Guess I'll just have to rewrite the story myself…"

---

Kirito looked at the other skill, expecting something like *Gamer's Mind*, but was surprised when he saw:

---

**Gamer's Adaptability (Max)**:

Allows the user to adapt to anything 10 times faster than the average ninja.

**Tip**: "This world may not be a game, but hey, you've still got some game-related perks. At least *something* should feel like a game, right?"

---

Kirito blinked, pleasantly surprised. "Well, this is actually kinda great," he thought. Being able to adapt to anything that quickly was way more useful than having *Gamer's Mind*, which just sucked the joy and fear out of everything. "Good riddance," he muttered, imagining himself turning into a blank-faced robot like that Jihan guy.

As his eyes flickered back to the tip, however, his eyelid started twitching again. "Well, I guess even the system's self-aware now," he mumbled. Still, he didn't let it bother him too much this time. Maybe the *Gamer's Adaptability* was already kicking in, making him get used to the weirdness of it all. "If I start adapting to sarcasm next, I'm doomed."

He clicked on the *Shop* tab, but it was locked. *Of course,* he thought. But then a tip popped up:

---

**Tip**: "Don't you know what 'locked' means?"

---

Kirito rolled his eyes. "And here I thought I was adaptive." He chuckled sarcastically, the system's snark clearly rubbing off on him. He tried both the *Timeline* and *Gate* tabs but got the same tip. *Classic.*

"Well, that's enough system exploration for today," he thought with a yawn. His eyelids drooped as he reflected on everything. "At least I've checked out all the stuff that's unlocked… and it's not terrible. I'll deal with the rest tomorrow." He snuggled back into bed, feeling the exhaustion of what seemed like the longest night of his life.

With a smirk, he thought, *This night was longer than 6,000 words. If I were writing a novel, I'd be in trouble.* And with that final thought, Kirito drifted off to sleep, the world around him going quiet.

---

It felt like he'd only slept for a few minutes when he was jolted awake by the voice of the orphanage's sister. "Everyone, get up and get ready! Behave yourselves today! An elder will be visiting, and they're taking the most talented ones to be trained as ninjas!"

Kirito's eyes snapped open. *Elder? Ninja?* He barely had time to process the words before the orphanage buzzed with activity. Kids scrambled to clean up, sweeping floors, washing dishes, and helping in the kitchen. Kirito, however, was blessed with no chores today. He watched the chaos from the side, feeling pretty lucky.

While the others cleaned, Kirito's thoughts raced. *I've gotta get that elder's attention. I need to be picked for ninja training. C'mon, Kirito, you've got this!* He mentally hyped himself up, ready to do whatever it took to stand out.

---

*Spoiler alert: He didn't have this.*

---

By the time afternoon rolled around, the elder arrived, and the moment Kirito laid eyes on him, a chill ran down his spine. His palms grew sweaty, his heart pounded, and he could feel the sweat dripping down his forehead. *danger* Only thought in his mind.

Kirito immediately knew one thing: *I have to show I'm the worst of the worst today.*

---

Just as he made that decision, a screen popped up in front of him.

---

**First Quest: D...**
