Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Becoming a Disciple

"Dragon Ball?" Master Roshi picked up the three-star ball hanging around his neck, hesitated a little and said, "But this ball looks very precious!"

"Unless..." he said, looking lecherously at Bulma's ample figure, "unless you let me touch it." As he spoke, he made a lewd gesture and slowly approached Bulma.

Hearing Master Roshi's lewd words, Bulma's face immediately changed color. She raised her arm and slapped Master Roshi's cheek.

Master Roshi, completely unprepared, staggered from the slap, and a red handprint appeared on his face, while Bulma's hand swelled up from the force she used, causing her to blow on it in pain.

Rubbing his aching cheek, Master Roshi said, "It was just a joke, no need to get so worked up!"

Seeing the young girl's hand swollen because of him, Master Roshi took the Dragon Ball from around his neck and handed it to Bulma, saying, "Alright, alright, this Dragon Ball is yours."

Bulma's angry expression turned to joy as she took the three-star ball and said to John, "We got another Dragon Ball! Now we have four Dragon Balls. If we get the remaining three Dragon Balls, we can summon Shenron and make a wish. I am so happy. John, aren't you happy?"

John nodded and said happily, "Of course I am happy."

Master Roshi then walked up to John and said, "Mr. John, your two friends have gifts, what do you want? But let me make it clear, I don't have Nimbus or Dragon Balls anymore."

John quickly bowed and said, "Master Roshi, I don't want any gifts."

"Oh, you don't want a gift, then what do you want?" Although Master Roshi still wore a faint smile, his tone was no longer as gentle.

Master Roshi, having lived for hundreds of years, knew that if someone didn't want gifts, whatever they would ask for next wouldn't be easy to fulfill.

John understood Master Roshi's thoughts, but he had to do this because even if he later gained a Saiyan body through Shenron, he needed to learn martial arts in the Dragon Ball world. And martial arts knowledge was often controlled by various factions.

Master Roshi, being Earth's foremost martial artist in the Dragon Ball world, was the perfect person to be his martial arts mentor.

It was precisely because Master Roshi laid the foundation for Goku that allowed the lower-class warrior Goku to have the potential to become the universe's strongest fighter in the future.

John bowed deeply and sincerely said, "Master Roshi, after this adventure with Bulma and Goku, I hope I can become your disciple and formally train in martial arts."

"Please!" John bowed again.

"Become my disciple!" Master Roshi thought John would make some unreasonable demand, but he didn't expect that John wanted to become his disciple.

Looking at the sincere young man in front of him, Master Roshi hesitated and said, "Taking on a disciple is very important. I don't know anything about you. Can you tell me why you want to train in martial arts?"

"Don't think of lying to me, no lie can escape my eyes," Master Roshi said.

John immediately replied, "Of course. The reason I want to train in martial arts is simple: to survive!" John said, his tone slightly excited because this was his truest thought.

"To survive?!" Master Roshi didn't quite understand why John would have this thought. He thought John would say he wanted to become the strongest on Earth or something like that, but he didn't expect that it was just to survive.

Master Roshi had just checked John and found he had a bit of a martial arts foundation. Although not very strong, as long as he didn't provoke strong people, he could live well enough.

But now John wanted to become his disciple just to survive, which piqued Master Roshi's curiosity.

Master Roshi asked, "Why this reason? If it's just to survive, I can give you a bit of my Immortal Water. As long as you don't get killed, you can live forever."

John shook his head and said, "That method might not ensure survival in the future."

"Why?" Master Roshi was becoming increasingly curious.

John continued, "Because Earth is just a small planet in the universe. There are many planets with life, and some are naturally strong and like to invade and conquer other planets."

"Sooner or later, Earth will be discovered by aliens. Without superior martial arts abilities, we can't survive or protect Earth."

"Alien invasion!" Master Roshi's face turned serious. He knew there were gods on Earth and had heard from Korin that the current God was an alien.

However, he hadn't considered the possibility of an alien invasion of Earth. It wasn't impossible, just something he hadn't thought of.

John's reminder made Master Roshi realize that this was a significant possibility.

Master Roshi looked up at John and said, "I would like to take you as my disciple, but you should know that your martial arts potential is determined not by your effort but by your physical constitution. If your constitution is poor, no amount of effort will make much progress."

"Unfortunately, I just checked your physical condition and found that you're not suitable for martial arts training. I think you should consider another career."

Hearing that Master Roshi was willing to take him as a disciple if his constitution changed, John immediately said joyfully, "Master, don't worry. I am working on changing my constitution. When it's done, you can accept me as your disciple."

"You can change your constitution?" Master Roshi was puzzled at first, then realized what Bulma had said about collecting the seven Dragon Balls to summon Shenron.

Suddenly, he understood and said, "So your method to change your constitution is to make a wish to Shenron!"

John smiled without speaking, confirming Master Roshi's guess.

Seeing John's confirmation, Master Roshi couldn't go back on his word and said, "Alright, as long as you wish to Shenron to change your constitution, I will accept you as my disciple. Just remember your wish once you succeed in martial arts."

John was overjoyed and replied earnestly, "Yes, Master, I will never forget!"
