Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Discount Price

Walking out the door, Jesse looked at the pedestrians coming and going in the early morning and found that pedestrians in the mage quarter seemed to have similar aesthetics or follow a specific trend, that is, blue or purple robes or short clothes, light-colored trousers, etc. Even if some people are a bit different, they won't be too outrageous.

And Jesse's shabby linen shirt is a bit conspicuous among the people coming in and out of the Wizard's Sanctum.

Since he wants to survive in the mage quarter, he might as well go buy some new clothes first. It would be bad if he was mistaken for a thief inside.

Not far from the entrance of the mage quarter, at the base of the city wall, there is a tailor shop. An old oak tree at the door is almost growing together with the stone wall. The shade of the tree blocks the windows on the second floor and also blocks some of the tailor shop's signboard.

But it can still be clearly seen. It says "Duncan's - Tailoring and Ready-to-Wear".

Jesse had been to this place when looking for a job last time. Sure enough, as soon as he entered, the red-haired boss frowned.

"Why are you here again? Didn't I tell you last time that there's no work for you?"

"I want to look at clothes, sir."

"Uh, well, any requirements?"

"What kind of clothes do ordinary mage assistants usually wear? Can you recommend something for me?"

The boss raised his glasses and glanced at the ring on Jesse's hand and said, "Your question is too broad. Assistants are neither mages nor mage apprentices. You can match as you like."

Okay, okay, I know. Assistants are neither apprentices nor mages. Can't everyone I meet in the mage quarter carefully remind me of this?

Thinking this in his heart, Jesse glanced at the fabric spread on the counter and then looked at the clothes that several tailor apprentices were sorting out not far away. He was a bit hesitant.

Most of the clothes here are made of exquisite fabrics and of good quality. They are probably not cheap. But if you go to those stores outside, why not just keep this set of clothes? Anyway, on the construction site avenue, everyone wears almost the same.

He casually touched a light blue coat that felt fairly good but still seemed to be sewn from linen.

"How much is this piece of clothing?"

"Three silver coins, sir. If you pay four silver coins, you can have a custom-made set according to your body size. It's very cost-effective. You can pick it up the day after tomorrow."

Hearing this price, Jesse was stunned, but he just said, "Sorry, I need it urgently."

"Then you can take it directly for three silver coins. It's very affordable."

So much money for a torn linen shirt? Jesse glanced at him and then at the clothes placed elsewhere. He felt that this might be the cheapest thing in this store. The consumption level of the mage quarter is really not suitable for his current financial situation.

"To be honest, I am here to buy clothes on my boss's order. Whether I buy something for myself is not important." He said stiffly, "So there are some specific requirements."

"I'm listening."

"I need an enchanted coat. It needs a certain degree of shadow resistance and preferably also fire resistance. Otherwise, linen clothes are too easy to catch fire and are not conducive to battle."

Jesse paused and leaned closer to the boss who was already shocked by the previous sentence.

"You've heard about the gnolls entering Elwynn Forest again, right? The magic of gnoll warlocks is not a joke. I need to ensure the safety of the master. So the quality requirements are very high. If it's difficult, it doesn't matter. I'll look elsewhere."

The boss slowly nodded and then said, "Enchanted coat, requiring shadow and fire resistance. The requirements are very high. It's best to choose silk. Silk is an animal product and is more easily compatible with arcane magic. It can better exert the power of enchantment itself than linen. I understand. I'll get one for you to take a look..."

You really have it?! Now it was Jesse's turn to be stunned. He originally just wanted to make an outrageous proposal and be rejected by the boss, then leave this tailor shop gracefully. However, he overlooked that this store is specifically for mages.

So what requirements should he mention to ensure that they don't have it here? A full-body forged armor engraved with a golden lion emblem, preferably with a metal dragon with its bloody mouth open on the shoulder armor?

The boss turned and ran into the basement, clearly looking like he had a big customer. The apprentices all looked over here because of the boss's reaction. Jesse, who was about to sneak away, was frozen in place by the齐刷刷 gazes.

After a while, the boss ran out with an elaborately decorated wooden box. Just this box alone probably costs more than Jesse sold by weight.

The boss excitedly and tremulously held the small copper key in his hand to unlock it. Holding the edge of the lid, he slowly lifted it. Unexpectedly, a not very obvious airflow rushed out of the box, making his hair flutter a bit.

Isn't this magic a bit too outrageous?

Inside the box was a thin coat with a light purple tint inside black. It was indeed silk, and it was sewn very exquisitely. This was the first time in his life that he had seen a product with sewing quality comparable to synthetic fiber clothing he saw in his previous life.

"Dead Man's Tunic." The boss lowered his voice and said quietly, "The original sewer of this piece of clothing was a mage who was very famous in Stormwind City. But in fact, he secretly practiced necromancy. In order not to be harmed by necromantic energy, he sewed this work with magic, which naturally has shadow resistance."

At this point, he raised his voice a little: "The famous royal court mage, Alfred Veblen, a disciple of Master Nielas Aran. To resist the fire magic of orc warlocks, he personally enchanted this piece of clothing with fire resistance, making it just meet your requirements."

At this point in the story, he was narrating like a bard singing: "However, Master Veblen died in the decisive battle in Hillsbrad Foothills. His grandson sold this piece of clothing to us. It is said that the damage to the lower hem of the robe was due to the flames of a red dragon. So we turned it from a robe into a short tunic."

Hearing this, Jesse was already stunned.

After a long time, he somehow asked, "Didn't you say it has fire resistance? How could it be burned by a red dragon? Isn't this false advertising?"

"No matter how strong the armor is, it can't withstand a punch from a mountain giant, sir." The boss said with a wry smile.

That's indeed the truth. Jesse said again, "But this name is too inauspicious. If I were its owner, wouldn't I become a dead man?"

The boss sighed and said, "To be honest, this is also why this piece of clothing is difficult to sell. But I can see that your boss may have a limited budget for you. So in this regard, it's actually a good thing for you! Because the name is not very pleasant, we'll give you a discount."

"How much?"

"For seven gold coins, you can take it."

Jesse was really stunned.

"Indeed... it's really quite cheap."

"Right?"

"But I have no right to make a decision on such a good thing. I'll go back and ask my boss's opinion and check the price."

"No problem. We are always very patient with big customers." The boss smiled and put away the clothes and sent Jesse out.

Leaving the tailor shop, the sunlight was a bit dazzling.

Seeing a piece of clothing that could sell for seven gold coins, Jesse found it a bit hard to accept and became much more sober.

Since he is currently short of money, he'd better not think about things like changing clothes. Instead, he should be down-to-earth and settle the potions first.
