Chapter 31: The Countdown Begins
The tension was huge in the room as Leon stared at the screen of his phone, his jaw clenched. Across the screen of his cellular device flashed coldly amidst its glare:
"24 hours left."
Across from him sat Isabella, her hands balled in fists, her stomach twisting in knots. The weight of those three words hung in the air like a noose.
What does that mean, Leon?" she asked in an almost inaudible voice, but the fear in her tone was as clear as day.
Leon didn't say anything for a moment. His face had set into stone, his eyes black with anger. "It's Weber," he finally muttered. "He's giving us 24 hours to either back off or… worse.
Isabella swallowed hard as fear went down her spine. The pieces of the puzzle were falling into place, and it was too late. Weber wasn't playing a game any longer; this was the final act. He wanted them to know time was running out.
