The next day,
Odeta woke up to an empty bed. Don Gardner's side of the bed was cold and empty; she couldn't tell if he had come to sleep. Yesterday, after she had run up the stairs, she had thought he would come after her, demanding answers, but he hadn't.
Using his absence, she had quickly taken a bath and changed into a more conservative nightgown to avoid what happened the previous night, but until she unknowingly fell asleep, he had not come into the room.
'Did her presence repulse him that much? She thought they had gotten quite close after sleeping together on the same bed and having dinner together with his grandfather, but why did it seem like they had gotten further apart?'
Lost in thoughts, she hadn't realized her phone was buzzing beside her. It was the second time that she realized someone was calling.
"Hey," Odeta greeted Martin on the phone.
"Hey, how are you?" Martin asked.
