Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Taking the Door Down

As Fu Hanye returned to the Fu family mansion, the evening sky hung low and heavy, casting a somber hue over the grand estate. The sleek black Maybach rolled smoothly into the courtyard, its presence commanding attention.

On the third-floor terrace, Gu Yining sat engrossed in a medical text. The moment she caught sight of Fu Hanye stepping out of the car in his impeccably tailored suit, her heart sank. She quickly closed the book and turned to head downstairs, not wanting to confront him just yet.

"Welcome back, Young Master," Aunt Chen greeted warmly, taking Fu Hanye's suit jacket as he entered. She hung it on the coat rack with care, all the while noting the tension that seemed to permeate the air.

Fu Hanye, changing his shoes at the entrance, glanced around. "Where is she?" His question was pointed, unmistakably referring to his wife.

Aunt Chen pointed upstairs. "Young Madam is on the terrace reading. I'll go get her." Just as she made her way toward the staircase, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hall.

Gu Yining descended the stairs quickly, and Aunt Chen called out to her, "Young Madam, the Young Master is looking for you."

Gu Yining nodded but felt a knot tighten in her stomach as she approached the first-floor hall, where Fu Hanye was sitting on the sofa, a visible aura of impatience about him. Yet, the last thing she wanted to do was face him.

Thoughts of him getting cozy with Ji Yunchuan, kissing and sharing intimate moments, filled her mind. She shivered at the notion. No, she couldn't think about that—it made her skin crawl.

Fu Hanye, hearing the footsteps, assumed she had arrived and opened his mouth to speak. But before he could utter a word, a loud bang echoed from one of the rooms as a door was slammed shut.

When he turned, Gu Yining had disappeared, leaving only a charged silence in the room, thick with unspoken tension.

Aunt Chen, sensing the atmosphere, walked to Gu Yining's door and knocked gently. "Young Madam, the Young Master is calling for you. He's waiting in the living room."

Inside her room, Gu Yining could hear muffled voices and the sounds of movement. She was too upset to respond, and Aunt Chen's gentle prodding only heightened her irritation. Meanwhile, Fu Hanye was growing increasingly frustrated by her blatant disregard for his presence.

Feeling the weight of the moment, Fu Hanye stretched his long legs, poured himself a cup of tea from the table, and took a deep gulp. It felt almost like he was downing a shot of liquor, trying to drown out his annoyance. This woman was treating him like he was invisible!

The air in the living room was thick with tension, and Aunt Chen, unsure of how to handle the situation, remained silent. She was hesitant to confront either party, knowing both were difficult in their own right. Finally, she leaned closer to Fu Hanye and suggested quietly, "Young Master, should I go find the butler to get the room key?"

"Forget the key. Just take her door down," Fu Hanye replied casually, as if dismantling a door was the most normal thing in the world.

Aunt Chen's eyes widened in shock. "Young Master, are you serious?"

Seeing the gravity of the situation, she realized that Gu Yining had truly upset Fu Hanye this time.

"Go on!" Fu Hanye's voice rose slightly, tinged with irritation.

Nodding vigorously, Aunt Chen rushed off to find the butler.

Five minutes later, Gu Yining was lounging on her bed, listening to loud dance music, when suddenly, there was a loud crash as her door was forcefully removed from its hinges.

Startled, she quickly pulled out her earbuds and sat up, bewildered. Her door was gone! Had it really come to this? Would she be the next casualty of this escalating battle?

Fu Hanye stood proudly in the doorway, arms crossed and an arrogant smirk on his lips. His dark eyes sparkled with mischief, a clear challenge in his demeanor.

How immature could he be? Gu Yining thought, indignant. "What's the deal? Just because I didn't pay you any attention, you thought it was necessary to tear down my door? Do you think that's a fair trade? You might as well put me on display in the middle of the street!"

"Why are you throwing a tantrum?" Fu Hanye asked, attempting to keep his voice steady. He genuinely believed he hadn't done anything to offend her.

"I'm not throwing a tantrum! I'm perfectly fine! I just want to sleep! Please, for the love of all that is good, put my door back! I don't want my sleeping position broadcast to the world!" Gu Yining huffed, rolling over and pulling the blanket around herself like a protective cocoon.

As she threw her fit, Fu Hanye's desire to ask her about his sense of smell flickered and then faded into the background, buried beneath the surface of his simmering annoyance.

"Hey! Get up!" he commanded, tugging at her blanket with a rough motion.

"No way!" Gu Yining clutched the blanket stubbornly, refusing to let go.

Fu Hanye cast a glance at Aunt Chen and the bodyguards who had just taken her door down. "Put the door back and get out," he said flatly, his patience finally wearing thin.

The tension in the room was palpable as Gu Yining remained obstinate, and the stage was set for a showdown that neither of them seemed prepared to back down from.
