Chapter 3 - Past

Now that I'm in Elornia, the first thing that came to my mind was how much this world resembles the video games I played on Earth. Suddenly, I recalled that I had died there. My name was Alex. I was an introvert who wasn't very sociable, which meant I didn't have any friends. The only things I did were read novels and play games. My parents cared about me deeply, but they often argued about my future, worrying about who I would become without friends or experience in the world. When they fought, especially about me, I tried to escape by immersing myself in novels.

My favorite novel was "World Full of Magic." The main character was a swordsman, which didn't particularly interest me; I was obsessed with magic. In the novel, mages were described as bookworms who read extensively, experimented with magic, and created incredible things. When I first read that description, it captured my attention. I was a bookworm myself. Before discovering novels, I spent my time reading numerous books at the library, particularly scientific ones. This led me to experiment with various concepts I encountered in those books, which only deepened my fascination with mages and magic. It felt as though I was destined to be a mage if I ever entered that world.

One day, while my parents were arguing as usual, I was engrossed in my novel. It was raining heavily, and our first-floor apartment started to flood. My parents were shouting at me from outside my room, but as always, I had locked the door when their fighting began. I assumed they wanted me to open the door to talk, but I found little value in their discussions. When their screams ceased and peace settled in, I felt sleepy and eventually fell asleep.

I awoke feeling wet and extremely cold. When I opened my eyes, I saw my room filled with water. Panic set in, and I unlocked my door. The door had been holding back the water, and when I opened it, it rushed into my room. I was submerged, so I swam to check my parents' bedroom, hoping they were just sleeping. But there was no one there. Running short on oxygen, I frantically searched for a way out of the apartment. Unfortunately, everywhere was flooded. Perhaps if I hadn't gone to check my parents' bedroom, I might have survived. But since I was already dead on Earth, it didn't matter anymore, I had nothing of value in that life.

After a brief moment, I came to my senses. I looked in the mirror again and saw a handsome teenager who looked 15—my exact age. I stood there for 15 minutes, trying to accept that my name was now Kyle Verze, an abandoned villain. Kyle died when he attended the academy. He was envious of the main character, Ben, who came from an ordinary family with loving parents. Lacking that parental love, Kyle attacked Ben and was expelled from the academy. His family, knowing that Kyle would bring them shame in the future, disowned him. Left to fend for himself, Kyle died of starvation because he couldn't earn money or afford food and drink.
