Chapter 18 - Sensory overload

My eye were glowing like stars in the night sky and I could feel my field of vision expanding, my ears were bombarded by a cacophony of noises all around me and my vertigo was rising. At some point I conceded and started vomiting, this sensory attack was too much for me to tolerate.

Blood starter to drip from my nose.

I'm going to die. I need to do something.

Garden of illusory flowers.

As the spell initiated, the strain on my body reduced. My nose stopped running and I was slowly attuning to my new sense. That was until Merlin's voice came like a thunder even though he was basically whispering.

"you'll need some time to get yourself together, so we'll leave, if you aren't back by the 6th day we'll send Odysseus to you. Remember you can't stay away for more than a week."

I just nodded, barely able to even tolerate his voice and immediately started meditating. After a few hours of meditation and abusing my mental strength to keep up the spell I was forced to dispel it and suffer from my enhached senses.

This is crazy. Weren't salamnder's just known for their fire resistance?

But then again, it does make sense, to live in a volcano you might need special eyes.

The earing thing was still somewhat confusing to me, but far be it from me to be ungrateful to perks.

Days passed, the naiads were gentle enough to help me with food during this period, but my situation didn't seem to improve. I was beginning to get flustered with myself.

Why can't I get used to these senses?

Someone was approaching me, but I was still unable to get myself to even walk during all this time.

"Dim, having some troubles?"

"Odysseus… yes… I can't seem to get used to these new senses of mine."

"Do you want to fight?"

"What the fuck? I can't even walk and you want to fight me? No thanks."

"Hahahaha, not with me Dim, I'm not that evil, let me call for Eurylochus, nothing is better to get attuned to your body than sparring with a strong friend."

Motherfucker is clearly looking down on me. I swear I'll beat him senseless someday.

"Who do you think is stronger between me and Eurylochus?"

I was confident I could win against him, but then Odysseus shattered my hopes.

"Mhhh, if he uses aura I don't think you'll stand more than a few seconds."

"What? Then why didn't that bastard show off against Arachne"

"The curse brought him to a body without aura, don't you remember?"

"Ah. What level is he then?"

"Mh, he should be a rank C Aura user."

"Then why should i fight with him, he'll just kill me."

"Don't worry I'll tell him to go easy."

Fucking bastards left and right looking down on me. I'll destroy them all.

-Odysseus' POV-

"Eurylochus, I need you to have some sparring with Dim."

"Yes captain."

"He also just formed his second circle, so don't use Aura unless for defence."

"Of course captain, I'd never endanger the second commander!"

These guys seem more loyal to Dim than me these days… Should I rough them up?

We walked to the river where Dim was meditating to placate his senses. He could already feel us even at this distance and to prove that fact, as soon as his eyes opened and locked into us we were teleported through that flowery spell Merlin taught him.

With his spatial awareness it's no surprise he's having so much hardships to tune with his new senses.

"Dim, Eurylochus and you will be sparring untill you get a hold of your senses. Of course he'll not be using aura. Go all out."

Dim was in clear discomfort and was trying his best to resist his condition. Then barely whispered, so lowly that even I had difficulties understanding.

"Please don't talk, I'm dying here because of your loud ass voice."

He then proceeded to get in front of Eurylochus, nodded slowly, and even moving as slowly as he could he backed off holding his spear more like a cane than a weapon.

The fight begun, but Dimitris was having problems even keeping his eyes opened.

When Eurylochus rushed at him, he simply teleported him away and started puking, but at least my man was tenacious. He got up again and casted the spell Circe had given him. Multiple red flowers appeared around him and one at a time they shot towards Eurylochus who tried to deflect them only for the flowers to explode upon contact.

The explosion were strong, but nothing to Eurylochus who just covered himself in aura to withstand the impact. Dimitris thought wasn't so lucky.

As soon as the explosion took place blood started flowing from his nose.

I wanted to intervene and put them on hold but then the healing flowers bloomed around him and his condition improved drastically, inside the terrain of beautiful flowers his senses seemed more manageable.

Dim dismissed the spell and took a stance with his spear. He was trying to get into melee fight now.

The first few hours passed and I noticed how Dimitris was slowly but surely transitioning to a spearman instead of a mage. His body was slowly tuning with his senses, or so I thought.

Even though he's clearly enjoying more of a warrior's approach, I can't deny his talent for magic. To multicast so effortlessly and at such speed… he really is talented.

Only then I noticed a shift in the atmosphere surrounding us. The air grew tense and cold.

Dimitris eyes, lost their natural shine, he became expressionless.

His once erratic movements became sharp and his bloody dance begun.

-Dimitris' POV-

Every time my spear clashed with his sword, the sound waves were killing me.

Every movement Eurylochus made at high speed, sent my eyes spiral. Even if I was slowly getting the hang of my senses, the accumulated pain was becoming to heavy of a burden for me.

I stayed silent for sometime thinking of why one needed to erase oneself to perfectly blend with the world.

While I was locked in this flashback, my body was moving on its own. The teaching of my family, deeply rooted in my very being allowed for the fight to begin getting more serious.

Regaining control of my body I blinked away and immediately casted my [garden of illusory flowers].

This sensory overload is going to kill me, but at least now I think I know what I need to do.

Focusing my breathing, I decreased my heartbeats and the temperature of my body dropped rapidly. The air around me got colder and the atmosphere changed completely.

I was erasing and rebuilding myself continuously to tune with my new senses.

Nature is to be lived, accepted for all it is.

I took the wrong route about all this situation.

I didn't need to select and store the information I was able to gather throughout my newly improved senses, I just needed to accept them.

I was one with nature now, my presence barely noticeable and I started my dance.

[Spear Art: Dance of Damocles, activated]

Flowery disperse.

Blending perfectly timed blinks with my spear art I was finally able to move how I really wanted. The ecstasy of being in control of my body again was intoxicating. But nothing showed on my face.

Emotions, like my father thought me, were a weakness that needed to be hidden from the enemy.

Eat. Eat. Eat.

My dance macabre was enthralling. Eurylochus was starting to get nervous. How could a mage have such moves, sure this was the second commander, but pairing his weapon mastery, with his spells and mobility it was truly a scary opponent to fight against.

Although my opponent was good at protecting himself, it was him or me. Madness had completely imprisoned me. I didn't even realise against whom was it that I was fighting.

His steady footing was bothersome.

His aura was bothersome.

He was mocking me, only defending. It was bothersome.

I will be eaten. I need eat. I need to survive.

Thorny path.

Making my opponent slip was the first step.

Flowery disperse.

I teleported him as high in the sky as I could, and then…

Dance of Damocles - 1st movement, Jeté.

My spear soared through the sky ready to pierce my opponent when suddenly a water whip caught it midair. Then a man tried to catch me.

"Dimitris wake up! This is enough for now?"

Who?

I didn't respond.

Fire lilies of destruction.

A few fire lilies were rotating around the man's head. It startled enough to give me time to blink away.

"Why are you attacking me?"

No emotions were present in my speech whatsoever.

But then a white haired man appeared beside the handsome one. He flicked his wrist and the same flowers I was able to produce bloomed every where.

"Mr. Damocles, where are these flowers from?"

"Avalon."

"But mr. Damocles, does Avalon exist?"

"Surely you jest?"

"Just answer mr. Damocles"

"Of course not! That's just part of myth and legends! You might as well say that magic is real!"

"But mr. Damocles, you have been using magic until now."

My mind went blank, I had been using magic.

"What… what is my name?"

"You tell me?"

I stayed silent.

I'm obviously Klaus Damocles, why would I even doubt it? What is this feeling.

The handsome man, on the verge of tears tried approaching my slowly.

"Please, please you can't have lost your memories again… please say my name."

I looked at the man who was desperately trying to hold back tears and a jolt went through my core. I snapped my fingers and brought him close to me examining his face.

My heart started regaining its natural rhythm,

So pretty.

My temperature begun raising again.

This man…

Sanity returned to me, my senses had been dominated and everything that happened from the moment I lost myself to now like a film.

"My name is Dimitris. And your name, my overly sensitive captain is Odysseus."

"I'm sorry I gave you a scare, I lost myself due to the overload of information I was receiving through my senses, but I'm good now. Thank you."

Odysseus let himself fall into my arms.

"I'm going to die of stress at this point, can't you just stay idle like a doll? I swear I'll protect you."

Slapping the psycho bastard across the face and simultaneously teleporting him a few meter in the sky I just looked at him with disgust.

I've been going to easy on him recently.

Looking around myself a saw Merlin looking at me so I just went his way.

"Thanks… where's Asmodeus?"

"She left for the demon territories, you gave me a scare up there… what did your family teach you to behave like that?"

"You don't really wanna know buddy, it's not a pretty story, there was a lot of abuse and you know that is never the only thing in such families."

"But what did you deal with, you don't move like a warrior, nor like an assassin. Let alone a mage, that's be a cruel joke."

"Are you cursing my man? I don't care if you're a constellation, I won't tolerate anyone cussing at Dim!"

Odysseus was once again onto me ready to hug me. I just teleported him away, but this time I also sent a dozen of [fire lilies of destruction] his way.

"Where were we? Ha yes! My family business… funny really. I only did espionage missions, but there must be something wrong with my memories. Do you know something about it?"

I was also scouting for information here, 2 can play a game.

"I do have a few ideas, but unless I'm sure there's no point in talking about it."

"Espionage uh, that doesn't really make sense, the way you moved was more attuned to a dancer."

"Oh that? That was my family's spear art"

"What? Dimitris what are you talking about? The Damocles don't have a spear art in your timeline. They have a sword art."

"Ha."
