Chapter 140 - Chapter 140: Yiling Falls Ill (4)

As Jian Yuming sat by Jian Yiling's bedside, a wave of memories washed over him. Not long ago, their family had been filled with laughter and joy, yet everything had changed so suddenly. That one incident had shattered his hand, derailed his life, and destroyed the bonds they once shared. The root of all this turmoil lay with Mo Shiyun, the woman he had once trusted deeply. Now, reality had unveiled her true colors, revealing her hypocrisy and unworthiness of his trust.

Jian Yunao felt a swell of confusion and frustration as he contemplated the recent events. In the hospital room, several family members gathered around Jian Yiling, exchanging words of comfort and concern. Wen Nuan insisted on staying to care for her, but the old lady disagreed.

"Don't worry, my dear. Yuming and I will take good care of her. You need to focus on the hospital admission procedures for Yunao. It's best to handle one thing at a time," she urged gently.

Aware that the old lady had learned about Jian Yunao's impending surgery, Wen Nuan was torn between her responsibilities. She felt it was crucial to ensure everything was in order for Jian Yunao before fully dedicating herself to Jian Yiling's care. The last thing she wanted was to be preoccupied with one child while neglecting another.

"I'm not leaving her side. Just look at her face; it's so pale!" Wen Nuan insisted, her heart aching at the sight of her daughter.

Jian Yuncheng interjected, "Grandma, let Mom stay. I can handle things with Yunao."

Faced with their determination, the old lady relented, "Fine, but make sure you both keep everything balanced."

Just then, a tall woman burst into the room with an assertive presence, her energy commanding attention. Following closely behind her was a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses, moving at a slower pace. The Jian family exchanged bewildered glances, surprised by the sudden entrance.

Luo Xiuwen wasted no time; she approached Jian Yiling directly, pushing Jian Yuming aside without a second thought. "What's going on? Why are you sick? And burning up, no less?" she exclaimed, her voice a mix of concern and urgency.

With practiced ease, she reached out to feel Jian Yiling's forehead. "Still warm," she noted, then picked up the medical record card from the bedside table, glancing through it.

"Has she had a CT scan? An MRI? An ECG?" Luo Xiuwen fired off her questions rapidly.

"Xiuwen, a CT scan is probably enough for a fever like this. She's already had an MRI..." Cheng Yi, standing behind her, attempted to rein her in, adjusting his glasses nervously as he surveyed the room full of curious eyes.

A mix of puzzled and skeptical expressions greeted them.

"Ah, excuse us! We're just friends of Xiao Ling, no harm intended," Cheng Yi explained, trying to ease the tension. He was aware that Jian Yiling's involvement with their research institute was kept secret from her family, so he deliberately omitted mentioning their professional ties.

Jian Yuncheng and Jian Shuxiang studied Cheng Yi and Luo Xiuwen, the familiarity in their faces nagging at them.

At that moment, the hospital director, Hong Baizhang, burst into the room, looking slightly flustered. "Dr. Cheng, Dr. Luo, why didn't you notify me that you were coming? I had no idea you were here until Professor Xu from the institute called me about an important patient," he said, his brows furrowed in concern.

The sudden influx of familiar yet unexpected faces heightened the tension in the room, intertwining the threads of family concern and professional obligation. As Jian Yuming observed, he felt the weight of the past loom over him, intertwining with the present moment. It was a reminder of how quickly circumstances could shift, altering the lives of everyone involved.

He shook his head slightly, trying to clear his thoughts. His sister was ill, and that was the priority. As conversations continued around him, he remained focused on her, determined to ensure she felt loved and supported amid the chaos. In this whirlwind of emotions and revelations, one thing remained clear: they would face this challenge together as a family, no matter how daunting it seemed.
