Chapter 87 - Confrontation in the Dark

Scene 1: A Decision Made

The crisp evening air hung heavy with anticipation as Leon stood at the edge of the Mondell estate's garden, his hands trembling at his sides. The letter from Atlas was tucked into his pocket, its weight a constant reminder of the unresolved pain tethering him to the past.

"I can't keep running from this," Leon murmured to himself, his breath visible in the cool air. "I need to face him. I need to end this."

Behind him, Cecily approached quietly, her footsteps soft on the gravel. "Are you sure about this?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. "You don't owe him anything, Leon."

Leon nodded, his jaw tightening. "I know. But I owe it to myself. I can't move on if I don't confront him."

Cecily placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "We'll be here when you get back."

Scene 2: The Meeting

The moonlight bathed the clearing where Leon had agreed to meet Atlas, casting long shadows over the trees. He arrived early, his heart pounding in his chest as he tried to steady his breathing.

Atlas emerged from the shadows moments later, his presence commanding even in the quiet stillness of the night. His piercing blue eyes locked onto Leon, and for a fleeting moment, Leon thought he saw a glimmer of the man he once loved.

"Leon," Atlas said, his voice low and strained. He stepped closer, but Leon held up a hand, stopping him in his tracks.

"Don't," Leon said sharply. "Don't act like we're the same as we were."

Atlas flinched at the venom in Leon's voice, but he didn't back down. "I don't remember," he admitted, his voice trembling with frustration. "But I know I've hurt you. I know I've done something unforgivable."

Leon laughed bitterly, shaking his head. "You don't even know the half of it, Atlas. You left me. You left us. And now you come back, demanding answers like you have the right?"

Atlas's fists clenched at his sides. "I'm not demanding. I'm asking. I need to understand what happened between us."

"What happened?" Leon repeated, his voice rising. "You abandoned me. You disappeared without a word, without an explanation. And you expect me to believe you just forgot?"

"I didn't choose this," Atlas snapped, his frustration boiling over. "I didn't choose to forget."

Leon's eyes glistened with unshed tears as he took a step closer, his voice breaking. "You didn't choose to forget, but you're choosing to ignore it now. You're choosing to stand there and act like none of it matters."

Scene 3: Misunderstanding Deepens

The tension crackled between them as Atlas struggled to find the right words. His gaze flickered to Leon's pocket, where the edge of the letter peeked out.

"I sent that letter because I want to make things right," Atlas said, his voice softer now. "Because I need to try."

Leon shook his head, his tears spilling over. "It's too late, Atlas. You weren't there when I needed you most. And now, I have someone who is."

Atlas's jaw tightened as he processed the words. His mind conjured the image of Tristan, always hovering at Leon's side, always close enough to touch. The jealousy he had been trying to suppress flared to life.

"Is it him?" Atlas asked, his voice low and dangerous. "Is Tristan the one you chose?"

Leon recoiled as though struck, his anger flashing anew. "It's none of your business who I trust. You don't get to waltz back into my life and question my choices."

Atlas took a step closer, his voice trembling with a mix of desperation and rage. "You were mine. How can you expect me to just let that go?"

"I stopped being yours the moment you left!" Leon shouted, his voice cracking under the weight of his emotions. "You don't get to claim me now."

Scene 4: Atlas's Plea

The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the sound of Leon's uneven breaths. Atlas's shoulders sagged, the fire in his eyes dimming as the truth of Leon's words settled over him.

"I didn't mean to hurt you," Atlas said softly, his voice barely audible. "If I could remember, if I could take it all back, I would."

Leon wiped at his eyes, his expression hardening. "But you can't, Atlas. And I can't keep waiting for someone who doesn't even know who I am anymore."

Atlas opened his mouth to respond, but no words came. For the first time, he felt truly powerless. The man before him, the one who had once been his everything, was slipping further and further out of reach.

Leon took a shaky step back, his voice cold. "This is goodbye, Atlas. For good."

Before Atlas could protest, Leon turned and walked away, his silhouette disappearing into the night. Atlas stood frozen, his heart a tangled mess of regret, anger, and despair.

Scene 5: Leon's Resolve

Back at the estate, Leon collapsed onto the porch steps, his tears finally breaking free. Cecily was at his side in an instant, wrapping her arms around him.

"It's done," Leon whispered, his voice trembling. "I told him it was over."

Cecily held him tighter, her voice soothing. "You did the right thing, Leon. You deserve better than this."

Inside the house, Tristan watched from the window, his heart aching at the sight of Leon's pain. He clenched his fists, vowing silently to be the support Leon needed, no matter what.
