Three more years had passed. Now, at six years old, Karl had started to gain more autonomy. He clearly remembered the day, three years ago, when he returned home with his Pokémon egg. It was the most complicated day he had experienced in this new life. His mother knew that the only way he could have gotten a Pokémon egg was by venturing into the wild, especially deep into the forests far from home. He only returned at night, and thus, he had to come up with a convincing story.
What he didn't expect was the chaos that greeted him upon his return. Police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and neighbors were everywhere. His mother, in a panic, had been unable to find him for hours, and in her distress, she called the neighbors, who then contacted the authorities. Upon seeing the scene, Karl immediately regretted his actions. His plans had crumbled. He quickly hid the egg and presented himself to everyone.
His mother was the first to see him and ran toward him, crying. After some time, she finally calmed down. Shortly afterward, the police approached to ask questions. With his sharp mind, Karl quickly thought of an excuse. He explained, in a childlike manner, that he had seen two people—a young man and woman—wearing strange clothes with a big "R" emblazoned on them. The police officer furrowed his brow for a moment, but Karl continued, saying they were trying to capture a strange Pokémon he had never seen before. The officers began to believe him from the moment he mentioned the strange clothes, and the rest of the story only confirmed their suspicions. In the end, Karl told them he had been kidnapped along with the Pokémon, but the Pokémon managed to break out of its cage, and Karl seized the chance to escape.
The police informed all nearby areas that Team Rocket was up to something illegal again. After that, things started to calm down. Karl told his mother that the Pokémon had entrusted him with an egg before leaving. His mother was a bit worried, but since the Pokémon had trusted her son to care for its offspring, certain things began to cross her mind. However, Karl wasn't aware of that yet.
In the following days, the police returned with good news: the local Team Rocket members had been arrested. They were caught while robbing a nursery that housed rare Pokémon specimens. Thanks to the information Karl had provided, the authorities were already prepared and managed to apprehend the criminals. As a token of gratitude, they gave Karl's mother a monetary reward, which was a very welcome surprise. She realized that anything related to Pokémon was worth a hundred times more than ordinary things, and this money could keep them comfortable for at least ten years.
A year later, when Karl was four, something incredible happened: his Pokémon finally hatched. The best way to describe the little Charcadet was as a tiny fire warrior. Besides that, he was extremely cute.
Charcadet had two powerful evolutionary forms: Armarouge, a Fire and Psychic-type, and Ceruledge, a Fire and Ghost-type. In the games, Karl always chose Ceruledge, and this time would be no different. However, he knew that evolution in the real world would be far more complicated. It wouldn't be enough to just train Charcadet to the right level and give him an evolution item. Karl would need to train him, guide him, be his friend, and hope that Charcadet wanted to evolve. Otherwise, he could end up like Ash's Pikachu, who refused to evolve.
Charcadet's diet also had to be the best. Karl realized that the money they had received wouldn't last as long as he had hoped, and he sighed at the thought.
Charcadet, or rather, Cadet, was very happy and excited, having just been born. He looked around and found Karl, approaching him affectionately. Karl smiled as he saw this.
— We're going to work hard from now on, my friend, so that everyone we love can live in peace. We need to get stronger, do you understand? — Karl said.
Cadet nodded, and Karl was overjoyed to see that. However, he knew that training his Pokémon would require a lot of money. It wouldn't be a simple training. Cadet would need the best food, the best equipment, and medicines. And the training routine Karl had found online was extremely expensive. Most people didn't even consider it because it demanded a lot of money in the initial stages, and the intermediate and advanced levels were even more costly.
Theoretically, if a Fire-type Pokémon completed this training, it could undergo a genetic mutation—a change in its fire gene, rather than a traditional evolution. Although no one had succeeded in this yet, Karl was determined to make the theory a reality. But first, he needed money.
After some time, he had an idea. He rushed to the computer, did some research, and a smile spread across his face.
— Hahaha, I knew it. There are no high-quality romance novels in this world, only generic ones — he thought.
Thanks to his adaptive abilities, Karl had a photographic memory and recalled several romance novels from his past world. He decided to write these novels to earn the resources he needed. However, he would need his mother's help first. He explained to her that he only wanted to write a book on a website for his studies, and she agreed. After a few months, several literary agencies wanted to sign a contract with Karl, but his mother declined them all. After all, she was in charge of everything, including the money, which she was investing wisely.
Now, on his fifth birthday, Karl was starting something essential for his plans: creating a faction. But this faction wouldn't be like Team Rocket; it would have clear ideals: to explore and uncover the mysteries of this world. He knew he would need an information network, and to do this, he began building everything online.
First, Karl created a website for internet users to visit. On this page, he posted some mysteries from movies and exposed some secrets of Team Rocket, as well as a few about Pokémon. It wasn't too scandalous, but it was enough to attract attention. And, of course, he did all of this anonymously, hacking into a few servers and using fake locations to hide his identity and protect his family.
In the months that followed, Karl continued posting what he knew and recruiting fans from various regions. At first, what they posted didn't have much impact, but the steady stream of posts caused the site to go viral. Every day, there was new content until, by the time Karl turned six, it was common knowledge that a new faction was active in the Pokémon world.
And its name is Phantom Vanguard.
