"Attention everyone, I'm Grayfia, a servant of the house of Gremory, the referee of today's match." I currently stood in what looked like Kuoh Academy, with Grayfia's voice filling this world.
"In creating today's battlefield, I took Sajection from both Lady Rias and Lord Riser. You all may recognize this place as it's a perfect replica of Kouh Academy." Grayfia said while I looked outside, which showed that we were in some kind of pocket space. We were in the dimensional gap, and a barrier currently surrounded this space.
Grayfia went on to explain everything that was needed to know, I was given the home base of the Occult Research Club, while Riser was in the principal office. Pawns would be allowed to be promoted when they reach my home base... oh, I never went into much detail on evil pieces, so let me explain.
The Evil Pieces were created by Ajuka Beelzebub sometime during the 16th century using the crystals available on Agreas Island to help replenish the number of Devils after the Great War which had caused the death of countless Devils. The creation of the Evil Pieces eventually led to the creation of the Rating Game.
Evil Pieces are commonly given to Pure-blooded High-class Devils so that they can gather servants of their own. Reincarnated Devils are also given the chance to receive Evil Pieces should they rise in rank and become a High-class or Ultimate-class Devil
Based on the game of chess, there are a total of 15 pieces (1 Queen ♛, 2 Rooks ♜, 2 Bishops ♝, 2 Knights ♞, and 8 Pawns ♟) that are given to High-class Devils (King ♚) with a peerage. These pieces are used to reincarnate other beings into Devils and become servants of the High-class Devil.
The reincarnation abilities of the Evil Pieces, however, are not absolute as they cannot reincarnate Gods or Buddhas into Devils even with a Mutation Piece. The recipients are used to still retain features and abilities exclusive from their previous race.
The Evil Pieces can reincarnate those who died recently, or anyone still living who chooses to be reincarnated willingly. Likewise, Evil Pieces can also be used on Pure Devils in servitude to their chosen masters to enhance their own abilities.
Every Evil Piece had its own unique ability, so let's go over them to fill up the word count... cough, to give you guys the information.
Queen- Queens are worth 9 Pawns. Queens possess all the characteristics of Rooks, Knights, and Bishops, making them the most balanced piece as well as the most powerful. Within individual peerages, Queens typically act as their master's second-in-command, overseeing the rest of the peerage.
Rook- Rook is worth 5 Pawns. Rooks gain superhuman strength, leading to high offense and defense. However, they are not very quick and can get beaten easily by a high-speed opponent. The King can perform Castling with a Rook piece.
Bishops- Bishops are worth 3 Pawns. Bishops gain enhanced demonic power and magical abilities which they can use to conjure up a multitude of spells (offensive, healing, etc.). However, more powerful spells consume most of their demonic and magical powers, which take a long time to regain, forcing them to use their power carefully or risk becoming vulnerable to physical attacks.
Knight- Knights are worth 3 Pawns. Knights gain increased speed and mobility, enabling them to perform high-speed attacks and maneuvers. However, their main weakness is their low defense, making them vulnerable to powerful attacks if they are not careful. Another weakness among knights is their legs; if their legs are injured, their mobility is greatly reduced.
Pawns- Pawns are worth 1 Pawn each. The traits of Pawns are the ability to be promoted into a Queen, Rook, Knight, or Bishop in enemy territory or with the permission of their King.
There was more to go over about Evil pieces, such as Mutation Pieces, and unused evil pieces... but that wasn't important right now.
Well, the game started. I was nice, so I was going to let Riser promote all of his pawns, so I went to the roof where I went on to watch everything play out.
"Do you understand the rules of the game?" A blonde-haired loli asked with a raised eyebrow, this was Riser's little sister. Ravel Phenex, Riser bishop.
"I do, I'm just being nice and letting you all get strong before facing me... but it looks like my goodwill was ignored," I said with a shake of my head, seeing as I was surrounded at the moment.
"You're arrogant human, I will enjoy disfiguring you." Riser said with a cold smirk, his palm exploded with flames, but as I sighed, that flame was put out, causing Riser's eyes to widen.
"I expected more, your whole thing is based after the phoenix right? Where are the immortal flames? A small breath put your flames out... that's embarrassing." I said with a smirk, causing Riser's eyes to burn in rage. He shot a beam of flames towards me, like before, I breathed out gently, putting the flames out.
"I-impossible." Riser said in shock, and he wasn't the only one shocked as those watching this match were all shocked. Amongst them was the strongest devil himself, Sirzechs Lucifer, who was shocked as even he didn't have the power to put out Riser's flames by breathing.
"Don't worry, I will wait. Go promote." I said calmly, but from behind, Riser Knight appeared behind me, her sword cutting towards me. The sword fell on my back... but I caught the sword with my fingers without the need to look back.
"I will attack in 30 seconds, should be more than enough time right?" I asked while the blade shattered, and Riser wasted no time in ordering his pawns to rush to the Occult Research Club to promote to queens and come back here. Riser wasn't a fool,
'So, he has the ability to be arrogant... what magic is he using.' Riser asked sizing me up and down, trying to find anything he could use against me, but all he saw was me standing there, my arm resting on my shoulder while looking at him with a smirk.
It didn't take long for all of the pawns to arrive back and with 10 queens, plus everyone else, they attacked me... just for all of them to pause before they coughed up a mouthful of blood. Be it from their nose, ears, eyes, or mouth, they fell to the ground with blood flowing from there.
"W-what did you do? I thought you said you would not attack until 30 seconds were up." Riser asked in shock, not understanding how he was bleeding, and how everyone was attacked with the same attack all at once. To make things worse, the 30 seconds I gave them wasn't even up.
"I didn't attack... just listen," I said while pointing at my heart, everyone focused, hearing my heartbeat with far greater might than before. Before Riser and the other could comprehend what was going on, they found themselves taking blow after blow from my heartbeats.
