Chapter 24 - The Gang Remembers

For the first time in a long while, Jenna's zombie gang found themselves with some downtime after the strange but successful ambush. They didn't speak much, not in the way humans do, but there was a shared understanding among them now. Their powers were growing, their instincts sharpening. But as they sat around, their groans a little quieter than usual, they all began to think about one thing: Jenna.

The one with the electric hands, known to Jenna as "Sparky" (not that he remembered his real name), sat tapping his sparking fingers together. In the back of his mind, he recalled the first time he'd stumbled across Jenna. It had been during a chaotic raid on a human settlement, before he had any powers, when he was just a mindless husk. He had been drawn to her not because of her strength—because, let's be honest, she didn't have much then—but because of her space. Somehow, Jenna always seemed to have food. And for a zombie, that was enough of a reason to follow.

The others had similar thoughts. "Chameleon," the one who could blend into his surroundings, had no clue who he used to be. But after bumping into Jenna during one of her many "supply runs," he found himself inexplicably attached to her. At first, it was just because she had food. But as time passed, he realized there was something more. Jenna wasn't like the other zombies. She could store things, make things appear and disappear. She was... interesting.

Even now, as she fumbled her way through leading them, the gang found themselves loyal to her. Maybe it was because she gave them purpose in their mindless, shambling existence. Or maybe it was because she'd named them. Sure, the names weren't great—"Sparky," "Chameleon," "Big Guy," and "Lefty" (who, unfortunately, was missing his right arm)—but in a way, it made them feel... important. Like they were more than just random zombies wandering aimlessly.

And despite Jenna's clear lack of intelligence, they couldn't help but respect her. She made them feel like a team, even if she had no idea what she was doing half the time.
