Jenna stumbled through the debris-littered streets, her mind working overtime—which, for her, wasn't saying much. Carl's words echoed in her head like a broken record. "Crystals in the brain." Right. Simple enough. She just needed to find some humans, grab their brains, and collect the crystals inside. Easy peasy.
But how, exactly, did one extract these so-called crystals? Did they just pop out like candy from a vending machine? Jenna wasn't sure, but she was determined to figure it out. After all, Carl had made it sound so important, and she definitely didn't want to look dumb in front of him. She had a plan. Kind of.
Her zombie squad, as usual, followed behind her, groaning softly. They weren't much help in the thinking department, but Jenna felt comforted by their presence. If nothing else, they were loyal—and very good at staring blankly at things.
"Alright, gang," Jenna said, turning to face them. "Today's the day we collect some brains! I've got it all figured out. We find humans, we eat their brains, we grab the crystals. Simple, right?"
The zombies groaned in unison, which Jenna took as agreement.
She stumbled upon what she thought was the perfect hunting ground—a rundown convenience store. Surely, some humans would be hiding there, scavenging for food and supplies. Jenna peeked through the broken windows. Sure enough, two survivors were inside, picking through the shelves.
Her zombie instincts kicked in. "Okay, okay," she whispered to herself. "Be cool, Jenna. Just go in there, grab the brains, and—uh—figure out the crystal part later."
She shuffled through the doorway, trying to act as zombie-like as possible. Which wasn't hard, considering she was a zombie. The humans didn't even notice her at first, too busy arguing over a half-empty box of cereal.
Jenna crept closer, her mind racing. Now, how do I get the brains? She didn't exactly want to be messy about it, but time was running out. One of the humans glanced her way and froze, eyes widening in terror.
"Uh-oh," Jenna mumbled. "Showtime."
The humans screamed, and Jenna lunged toward them, her hands outstretched. It was more awkward than terrifying, but it did the trick. One of them tripped over a fallen shelf, and the other scrambled toward the exit.
Jenna, in her brain-hunting frenzy, managed to tackle the fallen human, her hands hovering awkwardly near their head. Right. The brain. Where's the crystal?
She gave the human's head a light tap, as if that might magically extract the crystal. Nothing happened. "Uhh... open sesame?" she muttered, poking at the human's skull like she was trying to unlock a puzzle box.
The human, understandably terrified, screamed even louder, but Jenna was too focused to notice. "Maybe it's like... inside the brain? Do I just... scoop it out?" she wondered aloud.
Before she could do anything else, the other human returned with a crowbar, swinging wildly. Jenna yelped, rolling away from her prey just in time to avoid getting brained herself.
"Abort! Abort!" she groaned, waving at her zombie squad. "Back to base! This is harder than I thought!"
Her squad followed her, as loyal as ever, groaning and stumbling out of the store. Jenna clutched her head, utterly confused. How in the world was she supposed to find those crystals? She might need to regroup... or, you know, ask Carl.
