Day 3
Angel Man vs Demon Boy
Was it stress that caused Adolf to sweat so profusely? Was it exhaustion? Perhaps it was the fact that his unstoppable fists were stopped by a demon that looked no older than fourteen. A demon's appearance doesn't normally reflect their age. They could look to be twelve or even five physically, mentally they could be well over a thousand years old.
Just as it was foolish to estimate a demon's age by their appearance, it was idiotic to gauge their strength by how old they look. That was Adolf's first mistake. His second mistake was letting himself get overtaken by his emotions. Eating during a superior officer's explanation was the height of disrespect. It showed how little the feasting agent valued the opinion of their superior.
Though his rage was somewhat justified it was still no excuse to let himself lose his cool and dive head first into a brawl. His third mistake was failing to assess the situation. Lauren is a full blooded human down to her last molecule. Because of that one would assume that her parents are also human. One wouldn't be wrong until they met Lauren's parents. Though truth be told, not even the poor girl herself knows who or where her parents are.
She doesn't even know if her parents are alive or dead. Human heritage aside, Lauren still has a Guardian Devil as her protector. That made their relationship clear. Lauren holds the reigns, Evan follows behind. The evidence was clear when she reprimanded him in front of a room full of people with no hint of fear in her voice.
Though Evan did talk back, he never showed the slightest hint of hostility towards her. Instead he showed a sense of familiarity with Lauren. It was as if he instinctively acknowledged that Lauren is the equivalent of a master to him. For a Guardian Devil to acknowledge a human as a master it meant one of two things.
One; the master was so insanely strong that they beat the devil to submission. Two; the devil signed a contract in acknowledgement of the charge being their master. Both cases required the master to posses some level of strength. Lauren, as a human, didn't posses that strength. For a normal human to posses a Guardian Devil, it was unfeasible.
It meant that either Lauren was strong enough to force a devil into submission or that Lauren's Guardian Devil was so weak that it was brought down by a normal human. But if that was the case then why didn't Lauren call him away from the fight? The training ground, the fighting ring, the combat explanation. The set up was obviously implying that there was going to be a fight between Evan, a demon weaker than a normal human, and Adolf, an agent of the CIB, in short a super human.
Lauren knew this, but she still made no attempt to call Evan away from the fight. Why?
Those were the thoughts that swirled around Adolf's head as he swung his fist at Evan. The fist connected, causing a shockwave upon impact. Suddenly he felt that all his worries were unfounded. That he was simply overthinking things. He tried to pull his hands away and prepared himself to apologize.
After all, attacking a cadet on the first day was unacceptable.
"Hmm?"
It wouldn't budge. His fist was caught on something that simply refused to let go no matter how hard he tried to pull away. Whatever that something was had to be incredibly tough to have such a firm grip on Adolf's fist. When the dust cleared it revealed Adolf's nightmare made real.
"Hey uh…quick question." Said Evan.
That thing that had an unfathomably strong grasp on Adolf's fist was none other than Evan's hand.
"Are you allowed to attack a cadet on his first day? Cause I'm pretty sure that's illegal somehow."
All colour drained from Adolf's face. It wasn't the shock of Evan's unruly strength that shook him, it was the sheer malice that radiated from the boy that rocked his insides. How could someone so young feel so evil? It hit him that Evan wasn't young. He simply looked young. It was a common trait among celestials.
And as such, Evan wasn't human. He looked human but at his core, he was irrefutably a demon.
"Not gonna answer me? Fine then, guess it's my turn right?"
No sooner than Evan finished his sentence did he clutch his fist as tightly as inhumanly possible. One swing was all it took to blow Adolf on the other side of the room. Had he not acted to block it in the last second his innards would've ruptured and burst in an instant.
As he flew, he collided with the wall. The impact caused a surmountable amount of rubble to crumble to the ground. The cadets all looked on in awe, the shock on their faces was palpable. Evan dusted his hand slightly. He began walking towards Adolf, finishing off the leftovers of his sandwich as he did.
Lauren inhaled deeply as she watched Evan stroll towards Adolf. Finally when he was about a few metres away she declared.
"Take one more step and that's goodbye lunch!"
Evan stopped in his tracks, his body trembling. The cadets feared the implications. They feared that Lauren had triggered the demon that just one-shot the most intimidating man in the room. To their surprise Evan turned around with tears in his eyes. He was this close to crying.
"Why are you so mean to me?" he said with his voice breaking.
"You know exactly why! Now back away from him."
"It's not like I killed him. He's just knocked out."
"You shouldn't have knocked him out in the first place!"
"W-..He started it!"
"I don't care! Now go to the corner and think about what you did!" Lauren said in exasperation.
To the cadets it became clear, that the woman who could control Evan was born, and it was Lauren.
