Emma's POV
I wasn't going to let their disrespect slide anymore.
She most likely already heard my voicemail, and still didn't reply to me.
"Lily, don't you think you're being a little too bitchy." I said, dragging her back by the shoulders.
"Take your hands off her." Gray turned back and screamed at me.
We were causing a scene as students had begun to gather to watch us in the hallway.
"Shut the fuck up." Lily's tiny voice boomed through the air. But she wasn't referring to me, she was talking to Chase.
I stood aside and let them battle their shit out.
"You're a fucking liar. A fucking cheat. You said she meant nothing to you." Lily screamed at him.
"Lily. Come on. This isn't even the place for this. We're causing a scene. Let's talk somewhere else." I could see the guilt in Chase's eyes.
Lily kept crying and sobbing and speaking incoherently.
I wanted to hold her, but I didn't know how she'd react, so I stayed put.
Her hair was already disheveled.
She launched at Gray, tearing his vest badly.
"Later is now. Let's talk about it now you fucking creep." She continued screaming through her tears. I had never seen Lily in that light, ever. I didn't know she was capable of being so ferocious.
Things were getting out of hand already and no one was ready to stop it because they were enjoying the show.
"Lily, please be reasonable." Gray pleaded with her, his face already turned red from her impact.
"Don't tell me that, Gray. Everyone walks up and down this hallway, looking at me loved up over someone they had last night. You're just a cheap penis. Nothing more. I should've known better. Loving you was the worst thing I could do to myself. Each time the word 'self sabotage* comes up, all I think about is you. You're so bad for me and I know it." At that point, he voice was breaking already.
"Lily, please let's go." I dared to hold her hands.
I didn't know whether it was fatigue, or if she just did not want to create another scene, but she did not pull away. She looked at me instead.
"Hope you're happy now?" She asked me.
I really thought she was spent. Apparently, I still had my own share in her arsenal.
As much as I loved her, I didn't want to endure her lash at me as she did to Gray.
"Lily, don't say stuff you'd regret." I said to her,
"Shut the hell up, man!" Chase shouted at me. Straightening what was left of his jacket. A few buttons had littered the floor.
"You should do that too. Matter of fact, you should leave, like you were never here." I replied to him.
He was more incensed at me than he was at Lily.
"You fucking murderer." He spat in my face.
"Say it just one more time." I dared him, dropping Lily's hand. I didn't want to think too much about how little of a chance I stood if I got into a fist fight with Gray.
Not only would I have gotten rusticated or suspended, I might never be able to go to a good college.
"Or the daughter of one." Gray said, approaching me, menacingly.
"At least, she's not a fucking crack head." I spat at him.
His eyes went red. I could swear I saw all the blood go up to his head.
"Tell Chase it's done between him and I." He said with tightly bunched fists.
He was exhaling so hard he would have blown me away.
Terrified by how quickly he closed the distance between us, I dared not say another word to him. Not even that it wasn't Chase who told me about his mom.
I searched up everything about Grayson that was available on the internet.
He walked away, broken and hurt.
I turned to Lily and saw she was no longer there. She had left me.
There was only one other place she could be in, the toilet.
I went there straight up, because I had to redress anyway.
Like I guessed, she was in it, but she wasn't crying.
The Lily that was, wasn't the Lily I knew.
I got closer to her and put an arm around her shoulders.
"Why did you do that?" She asked me, with bloodshot eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you both. It's just, I had been calling and texting since Chase told…" I tried explaining to her.
"Please don't say that name around me." She said,
"Lily, news had been going around that I killed a man, and instead of telling me, you chose to avoid me too." I said. I was hurt, but also very eager to iron things out with her.
"You really think I'm talking about you, huh?" She asked, smiling sardonically.
"I don't understand you." I paused, catching her tone
"Emma, I only thought that if you suspected my boyfriend was cheating, the sensible thing would have been to tell me privately, and not throw it as a weapon during a heated conversation." She said, turning to face me.
Our faces were about a hair's breadth apart.
She was breathing hard and angrily. I hadn't seen Lily so pissed at me before.
"So you're saying you're angry that I told you Gray was cheating? Would you rather I didn't?" I asked, surprised. "Lily, can you hear yourself? Matter of fact, are you the one speaking?" I asked again.
I had never been so confused about someone that I was about Lily.
She smiled again, and lifted her hand to stop me.
I closed my eyes, waiting for her hand to land on me.
I wasn't gonna fight with her. I already made up my mind.
Lily's hand touched my face, but it wasn't hard. Matter of fact, she was gentle.
She brought my face to hers and closed the gap between us.
Lily's lips crashed on mine. I spent the next second convincing myself it was a mistake.
But it wasn't.
With her tongue, she started prodding my lips open.
I had never done that with a girl, more shocking, my best friend!
The door opened and broke us apart.
"Chase!"
"Emma!"
We exclaimed at almost the same time.
Lily took a step back and turned to the mirror, with a smug smile on her face.
