The sun was far too bright, its harsh rays invading my eyes as I blinked against it, willing myself to adjust. My head throbbed slightly, remnants of last night's party lingering in the corners of my mind. Groaning, I buried my face in the pillow, willing the world to disappear for just a little longer.

Wait… the party.

I sat up suddenly, the memories flooding back. I'd gotten drunk. More than a little drunk, and in front of everyone no less. A sigh escaped my lips as I checked my phone to see what time it was.

My stomach dropped as soon as I saw it—20 missed calls from Auntie, Regan's mom. Panic gripped me. What had happened? Why so many calls?

Hands trembling, I immediately called her back, dread twisting in my chest as the call connected.

Her voice was thick, heavy with what sounded like barely concealed sorrow. "Aria," she said, her voice cracking. "I'm so sorry, my dear. Regan… he passed away last night."
