Adam and Alex both finished their meal and finally exhausted, started to get up and head to the bedroom.
"Where do you think you are going? Go take a shower first," Ava said, pointing at the bathroom.
"We'll do it after we sleep," Alex said, continuing to walk toward the bathroom, but Adam stood there.
"I think I'll go take a shower first," Adam said, heading straight inside the bathroom.
Ava smiled, seeing Adam listen to her. "Learn something from Adam, Alex."
"Okay, I'll take a shower too," Alex replied, not too pleased but still complying with her request.
As Alex entered the bathroom, Adam looked his way once and continued showering. Adam was already in his underwear and starting the shower.
Alex was annoyed. Because of Adam, he had to shower too. "Fuck you. Now I'm so tired I might sleep here."
Adam quietly showered and, wrapping a towel around his waist started to exit. "That was quick. You didn't even use soap, shampoo, or anything," Alex said, grabbing his arm.
"Well, I'm tired..." As Adam said that, Alex looked at Adam with suspicion. "You know, I've been thinking. Why did you do all that for Ava, going as far to attack James? You even listened to her request. You don't have a crush on her, right?"
Adam went quiet for a while, his face turning red. He shrugged off Alex's arm and exited the bathroom.
*Fuck, he definitely likes her. I have to think of something to change his mind,* Alex thought, turning on the shower and just like Adam, exiting as soon as he got wet.
When Alex exited the bathroom, he saw Adam and Ava talking and laughing together. "Alex, you never told me Adam was this funny," Ava said, waving at Alex.
Adam turned his head to see Alex and as soon as their eyes met, Adam quickly looked away.
"Yeah… Adam… is really… funny," Alex said, pausing, trying to gauge Adam's reaction.
"I think Adam is tired. Let's go sleep, Adam," Alex said awkwardly, laughing.
"Yeah, you guys should sleep. I'll go wash your clothes," Ava said, getting up and going to the bathroom.
Adam quickly made his way to the room, and Alex followed him. As soon as both of them entered, Alex closed the door.
"WTF, man. That's so weird. Why do you like my sister? You don't even talk to her much," Alex ranted, pacing around the room.
Adam sat quietly on the bed, waiting for Alex to finish.
"It's weird, and I want you to not pursue this any further. I believed you thought of her as your sister too, but I guess I was wrong," Alex said, pacing faster and faster.
"Okay, stop. First of all, I do not like her, I really love her. She is beautiful, does all the work, and is very sweet. Why wouldn't a guy fall in love with a beauty like her?" Adam said, looking down.
"But I understand why you don't like that, so I promise I won't try anything weird," Adam added, raising his head and looking Alex in the eyes to make him believe he wasn't lying.
Alex sighed before crashing onto the bed right next to Adam. "Fuck you, Adam. You just made me feel bad."
"You should feel bad. You're literally cock blocking me. You don't know how much I wanna bang her," Adam said, making dirty gestures to ma Alex mad.
Alex threw a pillow at Adam's face before rolling to the other side.
"I was joking, I promise. Okay, let's just drop this topic. I wanted to talk about something important," Adam said, laughing though his tone changed midway.
Alex sensed Adam was serious, so he turned to face him.
"You know, I've been getting curious about something. You see, our enemies are increasing every day, yet we never get attacked."
"Well, that's because no one knows about this place," Alex answered quickly. "That's all? I thought it was something really serious. Don't worry me like that."
Adam, still unsatisfied by the answer, asked, "But how come you are so carefree? Someone might find this place. People like Jacob's dad can hire top tier detectives in no time. How come you aren't worried about our and Ava's safety?"
"Well, that's because the guy you're sitting with is the best detective in the world. Now let me rest," Alex said, closing his eyes.
"GIVE ME A PROPER ANSWER," Adam yelled, fed up with Alex's non-direct answers.
Alex sighed and sat up, running a hand through his damp hair, clearly not thrilled about explaining but realizing he wouldn't get any rest otherwise.
"Alright, listen up," Alex began, looking over at Adam, who was looking at him intently. "This place isn't just any hideout. It's been strategically chosen. See, I know the ins and outs of this city like the back of my hand. I picked a location that's off the radar the kind of place that even a detective wouldn't think to check."
Adam raised an eyebrow. "What, so no one can trace us here just because of where it is?"
"Exactly. And it's not just about location. I've taken extra steps to cover our tracks. Think about it we have phone, no internet, nothing that leaves a digital footprint. Jacob's dad could hire the best of the best, but without a single trail, they'd be searching in circles for years," Alex explained proudly.
Adam leaned back, letting out a breath, somewhat relieved but still uneasy. "So… we're safe because of your planning?"
"Pretty much," Alex said confidently. "I might not show it, but I've got this covered. Besides, if anything changes, I'll know before they even get close."
Adam nodded, absorbing the information. "Alright, guess I underestimated you, detective."
"Damn right you did," Alex replied, stretching out. "Now, can we finally sleep?"
Adam chuckled, the tension fading. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks, Alex."
They both lay back on the bed, the earlier room finally completely silent. After a moment, Alex spoke, "But seriously, about Ava… you keep things in check, got it?"
Adam grinned, shaking his head. "Got it. No banging."
Alex was about to say something, but Adam quickly spoke first.
"By the way, just one more question. I promise this is important," Adam said.
Alex groaned, burying his face in the pillow. "If it's another stupid question-"
Adam cut him off. "It's definitely important, so hear me out."
Alex lifted his head, clearly annoyed. "Okay, let's hear your important question."
"Okay, well, I just wanted to know how much time is left for you to finish your task… you know, killing Jacob's dad," Adam asked, trying to look serious.
"Well, I still have 23 days, and we're gonna wait a little more. You know we can't just rush it. He's a powerful guy, and he has lots of connections. He practically owns this city, and right now we're the first thing on his mind. We have to let it die out before we can attack."
Alex carefully answered Adam's question to avoid more follow-up questions.
"Damn, you thought it all out," Adam said, also lying down, finally closing his eyes.
There was a smile of satisfaction on Alex's face, he was happy as he was about to finally get some sleep.
