Chapter 8 - A taste of her past

"Lov-, Ara, open your eyes." Winston kept Ara safe in his arms, but Ara seems to have lost her consciousness and didn't respond to Winston's call; he then decided to carry her like a bride.

What an actress!

Seeing him holding her intimately made Rebecca's chest ache to the point that it's making her breathe harder—or the unbearable pain in her stomach should blame?

She thinks what she's seeing now is the most painful one; only then does she realize that looking into Winston's brown eyes feels like dying—she felt someone is ripping her heart out of her chest.

The once deep brown eyes she adored so much are now full of animosity towards Rebecca.

Why are you looking at me like that?

The very eyes of the person she has loved for years are disgustingly looking at her.

"I don't understand you at all, Rebecca; why do you need to go this far?" he asked with a hint of irritation in his voice and expression of his face.

Will you even listen?

No matter what she says, Winston will still probably take Ara's side. Explaining what happened won't make any difference at all.

Just like before when Ara put her in the spot during a family gathering, Winston's wasn't there at that time and was on his way back in the country after weeks of being away to attend a business trip.

Ara was always an actress.

At that time she felt diminutive and feeble. She couldn't forget the feeling of humiliation from her husband's family.

The day after their wedding day, Winston insisted on immediately going back to work. They rarely see each other for days, but Rebecca positively thought that time, maybe he was just badly needed in the company.

Days become weeks of the same routine, and as she quietly seated at their rounded dining table, staring at the feast she earnestly prepared for her husband. She patiently waited there until the ticking clock from 8 PM finally turned to 3 AM; this is the first time her husband didn't come home.

She tried contacting him but had no success at all, until she decided to ask her mother-in-law. 'Your husband already flew to Hawaii for his business trip; goodness, Rebecca, how come you didn't know when you were the wife? '

This was the same question Ara threw to her that time.

'Why did Rebecca know nothing about her husband? '

And each of the Aldines present that day was looking at her indifferently. The mocking looks in their eyes couldn't be hidden.

At that time, Winston never talked to her. Only yes or no, and this routine lasted for a very long time.

How would I know that business trip?

When Winston finally returned, she tried to tell him what happened, only to be ignored and asked to never ever drag Ara's name.

Right, you always cared for her. And that will never change.

She breathed deeply while trying to brush away her past memories with him.

Instead of telling her side, she asked the very question she's so curious to know upon seeing them together.

"Are you two back together now?" She asked in her hoarse voice and nonstop sweating.

"Why do you care? Don't you remember you divorced me?" He sarcastically answered.

Seriously?

Rebecca looks at him in her frowning face.

She doesn't understand where all these hidden emotions came from. Why, on the past seven years, she never once felt this?

Oh! Maybe there was one time when I gave birth to the triplets.

The look in your face while carrying Sena for the first time could melt anyone's heart, and the sweetest smile of yours when Sevi and Seven held your fingers for the first time.

I didn't know your face could actually stretch like that.

It made my heart flutter.

And you made me love you even deeper.

My dear husband, why are you breaking my heart like this?

She couldn't understand her own emotions; it's a mix of love and hate for Winston. Remembering everything she felt is making her head dizzy.

Winston composed himself and took a deep breath. "You should go home; let's talk at another time. I'll need to take Ara to the hospital," he says back with his poker face.

"I'll let it slide, just this once." His voice is fierce, like his giving her a warning.

Rebecca felt her vision was slowly becoming distorted, and Winston's voice was becoming whispers.

Please hold out self, just until he disappears.

Please..

Please..

Please..

Winston felt something was wrong with Rebecca, due to the beads of sweat in her forhead and the unusual breathing. For a moment he hesitated to go, but looking at Ara's face made him worried.

Without any other words, he walked away from Rebecca. In his mind, Rebecca is not his wife anymore, and she can take care of herself.

He didn't look back.

Rebecca's legs then finally gave up; she collapsed on the cold marble floor of the restaurant's bathroom.

Before her eyes completely shut, she watched Winston's back walk farther and farther away from her while carrying another woman.

What a jerk! You never once carried me like that.

Winston Aldine, you are always making me go crazy.

Damn...

Will I die here alone now? No! I can't; what about my babies? ...

Please someone help me...

Rebecca lied down on that cold marble floor for a few minutes, shedding a sea of tears while helplessly fading away her consciousness.

"...uh-huh.. what a mess you are, ain't you?" From the nothingness she is seeing, she heard a voice that was slowly echoing. She tried to open her eyes, but she can only see a blurry vision of someone squatting in front of her.

"...w-who are... y-you?" she whispers before her eyes completely shut down. She felt that her body is slowly becoming numb and her senses are becoming dull.

"You're fairy godmother." "Uh-huh girl, you better not die on me...." were the last words she heard before she lost consciousness.
