Chapter - 22
Leaving the Iron Mug Inn, Jacob thought about Thorne's idea. Joining the monster hunters' guild could provide him with the income he needed and a way to use his unique abilities. Plus, it might offer opportunities to learn more about the magical elements of Mirntha.
The guild hall was an imposing building, with banners depicting various monsters and hunters in action. Inside, the hall buzzed with activity. Hunters were discussing strategies, sharpening their weapons, and studying maps of monster territories.
Jacob approached the main desk, where a beautiful mature woman with long, flowing black hair and bright green eyes sat. Her features were delicate, yet she exuded an air of competence and strength.
"Hello there," she said with a warm smile. "Can I help you?"
"I'm here to join the guild. Can you help guide me," Jacob replied.
The woman nodded. "Of course. My name is Seraphina. Let's get you registered. It's an easy process. Do you have any experience with weapons or combat?"
Jacob nodded. "Yes, I do."
"Excellent. And can you use faerium?" she asked, her eyes keenly studying him.
Jacob nodded. "Yes, I can use magic."
In his week here, Jacob had learned about faerium. He had seen its influence everywhere: in the enchanting light of street lamps, in the whispers of spells uttered by merchants, and even in the protective wards inscribed on the city gates.
In the world of Mirntha, faerium was an integral part of life. It flowed through the land, concentrated in certain areas where it formed natural crystals and orbs. These magical concentrations were highly sought after for their ability to enhance a person's magical prowess. Those who could harness faerium were called mages, and they could manipulate it to perform incredible feats—anything from healing wounds to summoning elemental forces. The amount of faerium a person could control varied greatly, and it was considered a rare and valuable gift.
"We'll need to verify that. Please place your hand on this orb." Seraphina then brought out a crystal orb, its surface shimmering with an ethereal glow. "This is a magic crystal found in regions of dense faerium concentration. These orbs can detect whether a person can harness faerium or not."
Jacob placed his hand on the orb, and immediately, it lit up brightly. The entire room seemed to glow with the intensity of the light.
To say she was surprised would be an understatement. Seraphina had been working at the monster hunters' guild in Ironhelm for nearly half a dozen years now, and she had never witnessed such a reaction from the orb. She certainly didn't expect it from the handsome, blue-eyed man wearing a strange-looking hat, who had entered the place looking lost as a lamb.
"Incredible," she breathed. "You have an extraordinary amount of faerium. This is the first time I've seen someone with such a powerful presence."
Seraphina knew she had to report this to the guild leader. Unfortunately, she was currently away on a mission and wouldn't return for at least a month. She considered informing the deputy leader but quickly dismissed the thought. She didn't trust him and preferred to handle this herself until the leader returned.
Seraphina quickly proceeded to register Jacob in the guild. "With this much faerium, you'll be a valuable addition to our guild. Our leader is away, but when she returns, you should definitely meet her."
"Sounds good," Jacob replied. The receptionist noted how Jacob was a man of few words.
"Here's your personal identification badge. Make sure you don't lose it."
Seraphina then guided him through the process of taking on missions. "You can take missions to hunt and kill monsters and bring back materials from their bodies to sell at the guild. This will be your primary source of income. The guild provides support, training, and resources to its members."
