Chapter 23 - Monster Hunters Guild

Chapter - 23

The Monster Hunters' Guild was a prestigious and essential institution in Mirntha. It was a form of military force, that was present in all four great kingdoms—Avele, Valtoris, Drahgor and Theran. The guild played a crucial role in maintaining the safety and stability of their kingdoms. It was not subject to the laws of the army but operated independently, and could only be commanded by the King. Members of the guild were tasked with hunting down dangerous creatures, protecting towns and cities, and even exploring uncharted territories. The guild was also a hub for trade, where hunters could sell the materials they gathered from slain monsters, such as hides, bones, and magical essences, which were highly valued by artisans and mages alike.

Seraphina continued, "To take a mission, you'll need to check the mission board over there." She pointed to a large wooden board covered in parchment. "Each mission will have a description of the assignment, the location, and the reward. When you find one that suits you, bring the parchment to me, and I'll register you for the mission. You'll need to complete the mission and bring back proof of your success, usually in the form of monster parts. The guild will then compensate you accordingly."

As they walked toward the mission board, Seraphina explained further. "The missions range from low-risk assignments suitable for newcomers to high-risk, high-reward tasks meant for seasoned hunters. Always choose wisely based on your skill level and equipment. The guild also offers training sessions and sparring matches to help you hone your skills."

Jacob listened intently, absorbing the information. The board was filled with various missions, each parchment detailing a different quest. Some involved hunting smaller creatures that plagued farms, while others called for tracking down and eliminating more dangerous beasts in remote areas.

Seraphina spent the next few minutes advising Jacob on the importance of selecting good armor and weapons. "Your equipment can mean the difference between life and death out there. Quality armor will protect you, and a reliable weapon can make your job much easier. I recommend visiting Rurik's Forge for your weapons and Aeliana's Leatherworks for armor. They're the best in town and have gear suitable for all levels of hunters."

She also suggested some general stores for supplies, potions, and other essentials. "Make sure you're always well-prepared before heading out on a mission. It's better to have and not need than to need and not have."

Jacob nodded, appreciating the thorough guidance. "Do you have any more questions?" Seraphina asked, her warm smile putting him at ease.

"I certainly do, but for now, I think I've got the main gist of it. Thank you, Miss Seraphina." Jacob tilted his cowboy hat in gratitude towards the considerate woman. Jacob then turned around, prepared to leave the guild hall. Just as he was about to step out, Seraphina called out to him.

"Jacob, wait a moment," she said, hurrying over to him. In her hands, she held a large, leather-bound book. The cover was worn but sturdy, and intricate designs were etched into its surface.

"This," Seraphina said, handing him the book, "is a compendium of information on most of the monsters that roam the world of Mirntha. It's a rare book, filled with knowledge collected over many years by seasoned hunters and mages. Consider it a gift."

Jacob took the book, his eyes widening in surprise. He had always loved books and understood the immense value of knowledge. "Thank you, Miss Seraphina. This is... incredible."

Seraphina smiled warmly. "I believe it will serve you well. It's better in your hands than gathering dust with me. Use it wisely. The information inside could save your life and make your hunts more successful."

Jacob carefully tucked the book into his satchel. "I won't forget this kindness. Thank you."

For the first time since he walked in, Seraphina noticed a hint of emotion in Jacob's blue eyes. She could see the genuine gratitude in them, making her feel confident that she had made the right choice.

"You're welcome. And remember, the guild is here to support you. If you ever need help or advice, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck, Jacob."

As Seraphina watched the handsome and reserved man walk away, she couldn't shake the feeling that he would become someone great one day. His mysterious aura, combined with his unusual amount of faerium, intrigued her deeply. She decided she would keep an eye on his progress and make an effort to get to know him better whenever he returned to the guild.
