"What kind of argument makes a divorce necessary?" Qin Zheng didn't take it seriously but was a little displeased with Han Shibin. If Wanshu was upset, it must have been Han Shibin's fault, as Qin Zheng knew his granddaughter too well. Wanshu would never act up without a reason.
"Grandfather, I have no idea what's wrong with Wanshu. She didn't come home all night, and when she returned, she talked about divorce..." Han Shibin said somewhat aggrievedly, implying to Elder Qin that this matter was entirely Qin Wanshu's fault and irrational behavior.
Qin Wanshu glanced lightly at Han Shibin, realizing for the first time that the person she knew as Han Shibin seemed different from the man before her now.
"You didn't come home last night?" Qin Zheng asked Qin Wanshu. He had full confidence in his granddaughter and believed there must be a reason.
"Yes," Qin Wanshu responded softly.
"Where did you go? Why didn't you come home?" Qin Zheng asked.
"Grandfather, I've always had a sense of propriety, and this time is no exception. Please trust me and let me handle this matter myself, okay?" Qin Wanshu looked at Qin Zheng seriously as she spoke.
"Marriage is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly." Qin Zheng felt that divorce was rare in the Qin family, especially for his most sensible granddaughter. It was even more unlikely to happen to her.
"I understand," Qin Wanshu nodded.
"Han Shibin, you can go back first," Qin Zheng dismissed Han Shibin. His granddaughter was, after all, his granddaughter, while Han Shibin was, at best, an outsider. There was no reason not to side with his beloved granddaughter.
"Grandfather..." Han Shibin called out reluctantly, unwilling to leave alone.
"Go back!" Qin Zheng's expression turned stern, his authoritative tone leaving Han Shibin no choice but to leave the Qin household.
"What's really going on?" Qin Zheng asked Qin Wanshu after Han Shibin left.
"He has another woman outside, and our relationship is broken," Qin Wanshu briefly explained, omitting details about Zuo Qinghuan.
"He dares to have another woman outside?" Qin Zheng frowned. His most treasured granddaughter had married him, yet he didn't cherish her. What a scoundrel!
"Actually, it's not entirely his fault. Many things are mutual. I naturally have areas that don't suit him." From start to finish, Qin Wanshu didn't shift all the blame onto Han Shibin. Her frigidity, after all, was her own issue.
"Wanshu, men sometimes flirt outside. If they don't make major mistakes, it's often best not to take it too seriously. When I was young, I was also quite charming, but I always loved your grandmother the most. A smart woman knows when to turn a blind eye..." Qin Zheng, hearing Qin Wanshu still speak for Han Shibin, thought she was just being temporarily unreasonable.
"Grandfather, what I want is a flawless relationship. It's like an antique once it's flawed, it's no longer perfect or as precious," Qin Wanshu explained.
"Wanshu, you didn't used to be this particular..." Qin Zheng sighed lightly. The world didn't have so many perfect things.
"I've always known what I want and don't want. You don't need to worry about me, Grandfather," Qin Wanshu said gently yet firmly.
"How can a smart person like you not see reason?" Qin Zheng was surprised. How could his granddaughter's broad mind not tolerate such a small flaw?
"Grandfather, please let me handle this matter myself, okay?" Qin Wanshu sought Qin Zheng's approval again.
Qin Zheng knew his granddaughter, who always appeared agreeable but was incredibly stubborn inside. Once she decided on something, she wouldn't easily change her mind.
Reluctantly, Qin Zheng nodded. He didn't want divorce to leave a stain on his granddaughter's life, but she indeed deserved a better man.
"What are you doing?" Zuo Qinghuan asked affectionately.
"Taking care of something," Qin Wanshu paused what she was doing to answer Zuo Qinghuan's call. It was timely since she had planned to call her anyway.
"If you're busy, I can call back later," Zuo Qinghuan said considerately.
"I'm not busy. I actually have something to tell you." No wonder Han Shibin liked having Zuo Qinghuan as a mistress. She was indeed thoughtful at times.
"Hmm?" Zuo Qinghuan raised her eyebrows curiously.
"We shouldn't meet for a while," Qin Wanshu said, not believing that Han Shibin would let things go.
Zuo Qinghuan froze. Not meeting for a while when she heard these words, she felt a sharp pain in her chest, like being pierced by a blade. At first, it didn't hurt, but the ache grew unbearable after she processed it.
"Why?" Zuo Qinghuan finally asked after a long pause, her voice trembling.
"I've filed for divorce from Han Shibin. He probably won't let it go, and I don't want him to target you. I'll have all the call records from this number deleted, and I'll give you another number to contact me later." Qin Wanshu thought everything through carefully.
"You're divorcing him?" Zuo Qinghuan asked in disbelief. Although a part of her was ecstatic, the initial joy was overshadowed by unease. She had never thought Qin Wanshu would divorce and had even prepared to be her lifelong secret lover. Qin Wanshu was far different from what she had imagined.
"Yes," Qin Wanshu responded softly.
"For me?" Zuo Qinghuan's voice trembled.
"Not entirely." Part of it was for Zuo Qinghuan, and part was for herself. That man could no longer provide her with a sense of security. Staying together would only feel forced. Besides, she had indeed fallen for Zuo Qinghuan. If Han Shibin could comfortably cheat, why couldn't she?
"Qin Wanshu, I don't want you to sacrifice anything for me. I wouldn't mind living in the shadows forever. Just being favored by you makes me feel very fortunate..." Zuo Qinghuan said uneasily, finding the situation surreal.
"I don't see this as a sacrifice. It's respect for you and for myself." Qin Wanshu disagreed with Zuo Qinghuan's perspective. She and Han Shibin were fundamentally different.
Zuo Qinghuan was moved but didn't know what to say. Saying more would seem pretentious. Compared to Qin Wanshu's brave beauty, Zuo Qinghuan suddenly felt like a stain clinging to her.
"Let's talk later. I'll contact you with another number." Qin Wanshu quickly hung up, worried that Han Shibin might investigate her.
"Qin Teng, please have someone delete all my recent call and text records with a certain number." Qin Wanshu immediately called Qin Teng, who was always resourceful. Such a task was no problem for him.
"I heard you're divorcing Han Shibin. Are you serious about that woman?" Qin Teng asked, surprised.
"We'll talk about this later. Just handle this first." Qin Wanshu knew it wouldn't take Han Shibin long to connect the dots.
"Fine. It's just a phone call." Qin Teng made a call, and the task was done. However, he memorized the number. It seemed the woman his sister had hidden so well was about to surface. Qin Teng was intensely curious about her.
On his way back, Han Shibin tried to investigate Qin Wanshu. However, his people couldn't match Qin Teng's efficiency and found no trace.
Meanwhile, Qin Teng had thoroughly investigated Zuo Qinghuan. Looking at her background, he smirked coldly. The illegitimate daughter was indeed extraordinary. What a cunning move to be Han Shibin's mistress one moment and his sister's lover the next. But his sister wasn't someone easily fooled. If Zuo Qinghuan wasn't skilled enough, she had better prepare for trouble.
"Sis, have you checked that woman's background?" Qin Teng went straight to the point after returning to the Qin household.
"I know what I'm doing. Don't meddle," Qin Wanshu sighed. She knew Zuo Qinghuan couldn't remain hidden forever.
"Sis, Zuo Qinghuan is not trustworthy. I've seen too many women, and she's definitely not as simple and pure as she looks." Qin Teng feared his sister might make a basic mistake, blinded by love.
"Of course, she's not that simple. If she were, I wouldn't be interested," Qin Wanshu said nonchalantly. Anything Qin Teng could think of, she had already considered.
"In that case, you can't be unaware of her intentions!" It was obvious she was after money.
"It's not surprising for people to like many things. It's enough that I have what she likes." Qin Wanshu didn't see it as a problem and didn't think she had misjudged her.
"Sis..." Qin Teng was astonished by his sister's indulgence toward that woman.
