Max's pupils shrank, was this a sick joke or a way to make him join the guild more willingly? That had to be it no way this girl was his older sister. But maybe it wasn't a joke.
"I'll let that sink in a bit brother."
...
After Max left the party that night, Faye went outside to throw up, look like she cant handle that much alcohol. But she didn't expect to say to men on the ground beat up. One was covered in a black liquid that continued to come out of him, it looked disgusting. And the other was foaming all over himself.
'What happened here?'
She dragged the man inside and went to her desk to grab some cuffs, but it proved difficult as she could hardly walk. After putting the cuffs on them she blacked out, that's where her energy got her, maybe she shouldn't have drunk that much alcohol. She then collapsed near a chair.
The next day she was woken up by her lieutenant.
"Miss Feye, you're awake."
He looked worried and tired, looks like she wasn't the only one that went overboard last night.
She got up, still half awake, and looked around. Then she noticed the man. They were still knocked out. What could have caused this?
'Oh yeah, I remember bringing these two inside.'
"Were you the one who beat them up miss?"
'No I just found them outside, you should have seen how they looked last night, I almost threw up, I see that now they are back to normal.'
"Ah, I was hoping you were the one who defeated them. It would have made everything so much easier. Now, we have to figure out what happened."
Faye kneeled down at the men and put her hand on Clyde's stomach.
'This one's soul was damaged a bit, I can feel it.'
She then went to Seth and did the same.
'This one's soul is fine. Only physical damage. Do you have any idea what happened to them?'
"I don't. But we could check the cameras."
'You're right! That's a great idea.'
She said while her eyes sparkled.
But what they found on the camera they didn't expect. Max's battle was filmed all the way from the beginning, to until he cut the power. But it gave them enough time to see the dark matter. Needless to say, they were Shocked.
A child had his hands on an ancient drive that hadn't been seen in a long time. A power that only some have had the honor to lay their eyes upon, the power that was said to match light itself, was in the hands of a mere child. They had to get him on their side.
'Isaac, find me more info about this boy, i think we found a gem in the rough.'
She said while giving a menacing smile.
The next day, a few days later Isaac came back to Faye to report what he found.
"I have arrived miss."
He said while holding some papers in his hands.
'Did you find anything?'
"More than enough"
He said with an overflowing pride, looks like he really went deep in this investigation.
"His name is Max, he was actually supposed to be adopted by the Forsythe Family before they died. He was also part of the orphanage that got destroyed by that demon, he was actually the lone survivor, but after seeing him fight I can understand how."
Faye looked like she was touched by what she heard that.
'Pour child, that must have been the reason why he said he didn't have a last name.'
"He also enrolled in school for a day with the name of Max... Rose."
...
Max was trying to get over what he heard when he remembered something important, very important. He asked the hospital staff if he could leave for the day, and after arguing with the damn prideful doctor he was let to leave.
But what was today to be so important to him? To go this far? He wasn't the type of person who would go through this much trouble for something little.
But this wasn't little. Of course, in his life, the most important thing was to finish his oath, but this was top five.
After walking for a while he did it, he arrived at the Forsythe family funeral.
Meanwhile, the guild didn't hold a funeral for the people who died in the incidents before they arrived back, the Forsythe family being nobility got a funeral made by the other noble families.
To be truthful, Max felt like an outsider, everyone was dressed so well meanwhile he stood there wearing a burned shirt that was full of blood from his battle. Plus the bandages drew a lot of attention.
He could hear the kids laughing at him.
But then he heard a familiar voice, quickly turning around he saw Faye.
"I knew I would find you here."
This time she didn't have her smile on her face, looks like she wasn't the type to be positive at funerals, and neither was Max.
'It's you.'
"Did you want it to be someone else?"
She said while looking over at the bodies getting buried.
'Yes, I did.'
Max said with a little regret in his voice.
"You wanted it to be Isabelle right?"
She asked, even tho she already knew the answer.
'Do you believe in fate, Miss Faye?'
"I do, and just call me Fay, that's what our other siblings call me."
'So you've found the others.'
Max said while looking at Airis getting buried, his chest started to hurt. But he didn't know if it was because of his soul being damaged or if it was something else.
"Do you believe me now when I say I'm your sister?"
'I do. Im not the type of person who judges by emotions. So I realized that after you left, plus you have a brother who not only had my name but was similar to me, that is too much of a stretch to be a coincidence.'
He said while his eyes darkened griping the earring from Airis.
"What are you going to do now? Im sure we both know what happened to Isabelle."
Those words hurt both of them, for Max, it hurt his ears, and for Fay her mouth.
"When I asked you to join the guild it wasn't for a selfish reason, I know it's the best for you, plus you're going to be able to spend time with your younger sisters, your real family."
She said while sitting down on the grass.
'I realized that, as much as I don't want to, if I want to complete my oath I have to get stronger. And I can't do that from wandering the street and swinging a sword all day.'
He said while sitting next to his sister.
"It must have been very confusing for you to go from having no drive to having two very strong ones."
Then they both looked at the sky.
'I was able to trick my mind into thinking it was normal. But in reality, I know something or someone is behind it all. Do you think I would be accepted into the guild?'
"Of course, and if they didn't want you in, I would have gotten you in no matter what their wishes were. But in which one do you want in."
Max looked at her puzzled. Fay laughed, it was her fault to think Max was interested enough in the guild to read about it.
"The guild is divided into four sectors you can join: The adventuring guild, the night committee, the day watchers, and the disciplinary. Each of these sectors has its own building, the one you were in at the party is the main building of the guild. After getting to a high rank in your sector you can join the main building and climb the ranks there."
'And every kingdom has its own guild and its own sectors?'
She laughed, looking at Max trying to understand how the guild worked.
"We do this since every kingdom wants to be the strongest, so it's more like a competition. The only time when we're all united is whenever a war starts."
Max looked at her with a dumb look.
"Hey, Max?"
'What?'
"Do you want to join the Rose family again?"
Max was surprised by this but then took a not-very-happy look.
'That name reminds me of the times I was shackled as a slave working below even the maids. And how could I join back, father disowned me?'
She chuckled at Max's foolishness.
"Do you really think that being disowned is done just through words? And let's say it is, now that father and mother are dead, I'm the head of the family so if I say that you're a Rose does that mean you're back in the family."
'Before I answer, I have to ask something.'
Looking at the people leaving the funeral she responded.
"Go ahead, I will answer your question all day."
'What took you so long to come back, do you know how many lives you could have saved?'
She looked down and her face darkened a bit.
"I know. And I blame myself for that, I just wasn't feeling... myself at that time, it had been four years since I had found one of my siblings and there was no trace of you and Isabelle."
Max's face lightened up, he knew how that felt, after all, he had experienced that the first days he got thrown into this city.
"So do you have your answer, Max?"
...
In a room, with white walls, a gigantic TV, a white couch, and black furniture there were two girls. One was older than the other, she had her black hair cut to her shoulders, and her green eyes were almost jade-like she was wearing normal clothes, so like a T-shirt and some pants. The other was younger, had long hair, her eyes were pink and she was wearing clothes that were considered to be trending at that time.
They were watching TV when Fay entered the room.
"It's big sister!"
They said as they ran and hugged her.
'Alright girl back up a bit.'
After seeing the girls backing away she cleaned her throat.
'I am happy to announce a new member of the adventure guild. E-rank adventurer, mutated drive, your older brother... Max Rose.'
