Chapter 17 - High Press

City's under nineteen team had conceded a goal in the fiftieth minute of the match. Mateo sighed at that, it was long coming, they had managed to stop it in the first half, but with more players joining in on the attack, it was even harder to keep them at bat this second half.

Mateo but his lips, he didn't want to make this decision. But as a coach, he had incredible foresight and if he didn't do what was on his mind now, he could see PSG tying the score and even taking the lead.

Mateo quickly called Julian, the captain. While PSG we're celebrating, Mateo took the opportunity to relay a few quick information to Julian, and that included a total change of formation. They were going to adopt a similar tactics to PSG, but they were going on gen gen tactics.

Elian and Noah were to play in the middle, as CF's. Elian smiled inwardly as he mounted his position in the right part of the middle. "I wouldn't have ever guessed my chance would come so soon."

Meta noticed Elian getting carried away and he quickly spoke. "Don't get carried away. The countdown on skill boost is over, it's the only skill you can use right now without risk. Second gravity will help too, Use it wisely."

Elian nodded. "Yeah, perfect copy is too risky, I should only use it towards the end of the first or second half. I'll try second gravity when I get the chance to."

Meta affirmed his point. "That's right, so you need to unlock more skills. The system is also working on creating more skills to suit your game pattern, so you better level up fast."

Elian nodded as he passed the ball backwards, starting the kick off.

PSG's U-19 players rushed into their opponents halve, pressing quite high and steadily.

"Don't panic!" Julian shouted. "Pass the ball round with ease, they are not robots! Let's tire them out!"

That seemed to be the motivation city needed and they started passing the ball around themselves, taking it easy. They passed the ball mostly at the back, and that put them at some sort of risk, this didn't make Elian comfortable at all.

But they were experts at what they did, they kept on passing the ball, making sure that their opponents didn't come close enough to cause trouble

Seeing that they were always one step late, more PSG players charged in, covering up more ground.

"That's right…" Jude muttered to himself. "Force them to clear the ball.

"Thud!" City couldn't handle the pressure again, they were forced to balloon the ball inwards, aiming for Noah.

Before Noah could even jump, Colt was on him. Colt put on a show of a stunningly high jump, he connected with the ball and sent it flying back into city's halve with a powerful header.

"Get the ball!" Arlo shouted at Xander who was closest to the ball.

Xander beat Oliver to the chase, he got to the ball first and quickly passed it to Arlo. Arlo was one hell of a strong player, he controlled the ball to a stop, but the defenders behind him wouldn't let him have it so easy.

Santiago and Ivan ran towards him, but Arlo backed them, using his back to guard the ball.

Santiago and Ivan both tried to push Arlo away, sticking their legs towards the ball and trying desperately to win the ball or at least knock if off Arlo. But the only person as strong as Arlo in this match was Julian, and he wasn't close by.

Arlo muscled the defenders away and set up the ball for Jude who had run in at the flanks.

Jude's first touch was a cross that served towards the far corner of the penalty area but Dean punched the ball away, buying a little time for his players to regroup.

Oscar controlled the loose ball, but Julian was sliding towards him the next moment.

The entire stadium echoed their thoughts concerning the tackle, but regardless of what they felt, the referee didn't think it was a foul. The referee was actually very satisfied with the conduct of the players in this match, there had barely been a foul this entire game.

Elian looked around him, in a heart beat he had used game reading to get a good sense of where the few defenders were and how they positioned themselves, including how far their positions stretched.

Elian's eyes had a sparkles as he put the little he had practiced of False 9 into good use.

Elian moved back and front in their opponents defense, drawing the defenders attention to him and distracting them. It wasn't good enough yet, but it was enough to achieve the intended effect.

Noah controlled the pass from Oliver and he carried out a brief hold up play, then he set a through ball towards Elian.

Elian ran behind the defense lines, beating them with sheer speed. He had already confused them earlier, so they didn't have a good idea of where he was.

Elian was alone with the goal keeper and he didn't have any difficulty in playing the ball behind the net.

PSG players and coach alike could only stare at the linesman, urging him to and hoping that he would raise the flag, but it was all for nought. It was a valid goal.

GOALLLLL!!!!

*Ding!*

Congratulations on leveling up, you have unlocked a new skill.

Elian sprang away, running to do his signature celebration. He was quite happy, not just for scoring, but for the fact that he had unlocked another skill.

This was the best feeling on earth.
