Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

The rain poured down in relentless, drumming on the pavement like a heartbeat. I stood under the shed of a small cafe, holding my textbooks to my chest, trying to block out the world around me. I had intended to study, but an unexplainable dread groaned at my insides, refusing to let go.

As the rain began to reduce, I decided to head home. I looked around the street hoping to find my friend 'Sarah', we had both gone for school fellowship and when we decided to go home, the rain began heavily, so we decided to wait but when the rain won't stop and it was getting dark and cloudy we decided to enter into the rain. She said she couldn't wait under the shed so she left. But I still looked around hoping to find her.

As I walked through the rain-soaked streets, a loud crash shattered the air, drawing my attention. I watched as two black SUVs came to a halt in front of an abandoned warehouse down the block. A sudden fear shot through me as three men jumped out, their movements swift and practiced. They were dressed in dark suits, their expressions hard and dangerous.

Instantly, I took a step back, my heart racing. I was too far away to hear what they were saying, but the way they moved felt like a scene from a nightmare—a power play I shouldn't witness. Curiosity tugged at me, but common sense screamed for me to turn and run.

But then I saw it. From behind the SUV, another man emerged, struggling to break free from the grip of two of the suited men. My breath caught in my throat as I recognized him: Tommy, the reporter that had been declared missing. Panic spread through my veins like ice as I realized he was about to become a victim in this violent theater.

What was he doing here, if he was missing? And why were the men treating him like that. The news had been trending for weeks now that he was missing, but here he is driving an SUV. Just then one of the suited men gave him a hard slap that sent him down his knees.

"No!" I whispered, my voice barely audible over the dripping rain. I felt my heart in my throat as I watched one of the men draw a glinting knife from his belt, the blade catching the faint light as he advanced toward Tommy, who was shouting and sobbing in a desperate attempt to escape.

The time seemed to slow down has I took an involuntary step forward, drawn in by the horror unfolding before my eyes. I knew I should flee, that this was a danger I couldn't comprehend, but my feet felt glued to the ground. In that moment, everything became a blur, the rain began again making the whole scene intense.

"Luca, we have to make an example," one of the men shouted, pushing Tommy down to the ground, his knees hitting the wet pavement. "He's a liability."

"Do it," came the cold, commanding voice of a mysterious man. I couldn't see him yet, but his presence loomed like a storm ready to unleash its fury.

The words sent a chill through me, and a dread settled in my stomach. Standing in the rain, I could feel that fear gripping my heart, but I still couldn't leave the spot.

Suddenly, the sound of metal slicing went through the air. The knife glinted as it arced toward Tommy, who was begging for his life. "Please! I didn't mean to—"

The blade went deep into his stomach, and a gasp tore from my lips, horrified and involuntary. I pressed my back against a tree, my breath heavy as the reality of what I was witnessing crashed down on me. Tommy's body went limp, and the world around me fell silent except for the rain, which continued to pour, washing away the remains of the violence.

I had to get out of there. I turned to run, my heart pounding in my chest, but as I stumbled backward, I collided with a figure.

"Hey!" Sarah exclaimed, her voice filled with confusion. "What's going on?"

"Sarah! We need to go!" I cried, panic all over my body. "Now!"

But before I could pull her away, I saw the mysterious man emerging from the shadows of the warehouse, his presence striking like lightning. He moved with an unsettling calm, his sharp features shinning by the light from the streetlamp. He looked at the dead man, eyes cold and calculating.

"Get rid of the body," he commanded, his voice low and menacing. The men nodded, their expressions blank as they began to drag Tommy's lifeless form toward the SUV.

Fear surged within me, threatening to consume me whole. I grabbed Sarah's hand and turned to flee, but before we could take a single step, the man's eyes locked onto mine. In that second, everything felt normal. The chaos, the rain, even the screams faded into silence.

My heart raced as our gazes collided, a shocking electric current passing between us. It felt like the world had shifted, and in that moment, I was frozen, caught between the horror of the scene before me and the attractive pull of the man I had just seen commit the sin.

"Run!" I screamed at Sarah, breaking free from the spell that held me captive. We dashed into the alley, the darkness swallowing us, but I could still feel the man's gaze behind me as we fled.

The sound of footsteps followed us, chaos and danger echoing in the narrow alley. I could hear the men shouting, their voices rising in alarm as they realized we had been witnesses to their crime.

"Don't let them get away!" The man's voice pierced through the me like a dagger, cold and demanding.

We ran through the shadows, my lungs burning with each breath. I could hear Sarah behind me, gasping and urging me to go faster. "What the hell just happened?" she panted.

"I don't know! Just keep running!" I gasped, fear pulling me forward. My blood went through my veins, drowning out the pain of exhaustion. But I could feel the danger closing in, a presence lurking behind us.

We burst onto a busy street, the sounds of the city colliding with the storm. People rushed past, different the horror we had just escaped. I pulled Sarah into a nearby alley, the blood still pumping through my veins. We pressed against the wall, trying to catch our breath, our hearts pounding.

"Did you see that?" Sarah whispered, her eyes wide with shock. "We have to call the police!"

"No!" I hissed, glancing around, panic rising again. "If they find out we saw them, they'll come after us. We can't tell anyone!"

"Let me go get a bike, they don't recognize me. .. Wait here I will be right back" She said and I nodded still trying to catch my breath.

As she went down the street to get a bike, my thoughts drifted to my stepmother who was at home. She would never listen to me. She was going to scold me or maybe even beat me to a pole.

Before I could finish my thought, the unmistakable sound of footsteps echoed from the alley entrance. I held my breath, my heart racing, knowing I was not safe.

Suddenly, a figure appeared from the entrance of the alley, the black suit shinning through the city lights. It was the mysterious man. The world fell silent around me, the noise of the city fading into nothing. His eyes locked onto mine, fierce and unwavering, sending a wave of both fear and thrill through me.

"Found you," he said, a dangerous smile creeping round his lips.

In that moment, everything shifted. I realized I was caught in a web of chaos, and there was no way out.
