(First, I want to mention that I made an error in the previous chapter when describing the appearance of the Kagunes. I skipped the description of the rinkaku, which has the appearance of a centipede but with blades instead of legs on the sides.
Anyway, I'll provide examples of how each one looks, though imagine them in purple with black and pink details:
Ukaku
Koukaku
Rinkaku
Bikaku
And second, I'll refer to the Kagunes as follows, so I don't have to remember each name:
Ukaku = Branches
Koukaku = Petals
Rinkaku = Centipede
Bikaku = Scorpion Tail)
In a place where time has no meaning and space is insignificant, above the river where all souls eventually end up before continuing their journey, a figure lies on a beautiful and luxurious couch.
The figure, vaguely feminine and made of light, is watching what seems to be a relatively old television. However, the image displayed is of a quality so high it would be impossible even for the most modern screens. The television is focused on a girl with black horns and a tail of the same color, walking down a long white hallway.
The figure of light, still watching the television, speaks:
"I know you're there, brother. What do you want?"
Out of nowhere, a figure formed from pure darkness appears. Upon its arrival, space trembles, and all the souls in the river pause for a moment before resuming their journey.
"I don't understand. What do you see in this mortal?" the dark figure cuts straight to the point.
"It's simple... you see the end of every story and life, the beginning of each story. And what do I see? The transition from one end to a new beginning. After a while, it gets boring, so I thought, 'What if I started someone's story myself and watched it from start to finish?' So, that's what I did."
"So, you're just bored… honestly, I'm not surprised. I expected this. I only came to make sure it wasn't anything bigger than just entertainment."
"Well then, off you go, Death. I have a life to watch, and it looks like it's about to get interesting."
...
"ROUND 5, DIFFICULTY: HARD," announced the mechanical voice from the speakers, starting the confrontation.
In the middle of a destroyed city stood a figure, about one meter seventy-two, distinctly female, with three notable features: six horns on her head, a long black tail resembling vertebrae with a large blade at the end, and skin covered in purple scales and a black exoskeleton. This was Velariel, around eight years old.
'Today I'll complete it. After two and a half years, today I'll finally complete it,' she told herself with determination.
She stood there with a serious, resolved expression. After entering the danger room so many times, she realized the best strategy was simply to wait for the enemies to come to her—and so they did.
From her right, a dozen robots, each a meter eighty, appeared, accompanied by four larger robots, each three meters tall with blade-shaped arms.
Seeing them, four centipede-like appendages sprouted from her back, and she charged at the robots, who also advanced toward her. The first clash was swift, with one of the centipedes skewering a robot and then using it as a club to knock another robot away.
A quick thrust from a centipede split the third robot in half. One of the three-meter robots attacked her from behind, but she defended herself with the centipedes. When their strike connected, black spikes grew from them, damaging the robot's blade. This created an opening, and using one of her x-genes, she controlled her hair, hardening the tips with Rc cells to impale the robot through its chest.
The other robots took advantage of the situation to surround her. Seeing this, the mutant used her density control ability to lighten her weight, and, using two scorpion tails, launched herself into the air.
There, she increased her weight to more than double the normal, landing on a three-meter robot and using her four centipedes to cushion the fall. With a quick spin, she dealt with three more of the one-meter-eighty robots, slicing them in half as she rotated with her extended centipedes. Using the scorpion tails, she pushed herself back to gain some distance from the other robots.
Seeing that only half of her opponents remained, she made two of the centipedes disappear and created four branches from which she began shooting purple crystals like a machine gun. With this, she eliminated three smaller robots and injured the rest. All the while, the robots kept charging toward her. The first to reach her was a three-meter robot that launched a downward slash. She blocked it with two petals that sprouted spikes, damaging the blade. To finish it off, she contracted a centipede, transforming it into a lance-like form, which she used to impale the robot and another one behind it.
Seeing that only three enemies remained, Velariel charged toward them, slicing through the first, impaling the second, and using her centipedes to split the third in half, ending the first wave of enemies.
...
"Her progress is impressive. Any other student would be struggling, and here she is, already fighting the second wave without a scratch," commented Professor Xavier.
"You've trained her well, Logan," said Ororo, genuinely impressed. The man grunted before responding.
"Only about twenty-five percent of this is from my training; the rest is pure talent. That girl's a combat beast, especially since those things grew on her back."
"Yes… they still surprise me. A series of organs that, when bombarded with a new type of cell, grow and create unique limbs. I've been researching them for two years, and I still don't understand how it's possible," added Dr. Hank.
"In their own way, every mutant is special and unique... but even so, she stands out among the rest," the professor said.
"Are you sure it's a good idea for her to join the team? She's not even ten yet," Ororo asked.
"I won't deny that she's still young, but with the construction of the Sentinels... the team needs a heavy hitter, and she's perfect. Besides, I'll do everything in my power to make sure she's not exposed to anything too extreme for her age," replied the professor.
"Just remember this, Professor: she's more beast than beast and young. That's a recipe for disaster in our line of work," Logan warned.
...
She had already fought through two more waves—the second with a dozen and a half one-meter-eighty robots and five three-meter robots, and the third with the same quantity but accompanied by two five-meter robots.
Velariel was on top of one of these robots, catching her breath when she felt the ground begin to tremble. She sensed it long before, her heightened senses alerting her to the approach. From behind a building emerged three giant figures, about twelve meters tall, in shades of pink and purple: the humans' new weapon and the nightmare of mutants—Sentinels.
Knowing this was a battle where she'd have to give her all, she created two of each of her Kagunes, and an armor began to grow from her skin, covering her entirely. The Kakuja looked like a mix between plate armor and an insect's body, but the face—her face was like a smooth mask, save for the area around the eyes, which were two purple crystals, and the mouth, which lacked lips, revealing rows of teeth (imagine the jaw of Porco's Jaw Titan) in predominant black with purple details and red edges.
The armored figure took a runner's stance, extending her Kagunes, preparing her white hair that protruded from the armor, ready to use it as spears, and extending her claws, prepared to tear.
With all her weapons ready, she lightened her body's density and, with a powerful leap, launched herself into the fray. The Sentinels, in response, extended their arms, and pink light began to accumulate in their hands before three pairs of lasers were fired.
With great agility, she evaded the lasers, though they were relentless. Using her two branches, she launched several crystals that forced the first Sentinel to shield itself. Although the crystals didn't penetrate deeply, they damaged the armor, lodging into it and, after a few seconds, began to glow and then exploded.
This is the Kakuja ability. Besides creating armor, it allows Velariel to overcharge any part of her body with Rc cells, which she can make explode at will. Additionally, it provides boosts in strength, speed, and defense.
With the first Sentinel retreating due to the explosions, a gap opened up, which the young demon seized to close in. She compressed her two centipede-like extensions, shaping them into spear-like stingers, and launched them at the Sentinel: the first one severed an arm, and the second embedded itself into its chest.
In a swift sequence of actions, three things happened: first, the centipede in the Sentinel's chest began to glow; second, it detached from Velariel's body; and third, she kicked off the Sentinel's body, propelling herself back in a leap.
As Velariel landed, the centipede exploded, destroying the first Sentinel. The other two quickly responded, firing more lasers from their hands. Velariel began running in circles around them, leaving afterimages behind and firing rapid bursts of explosive crystals.
However, these bursts soon stopped as her momentum slowed, causing the afterimages to disappear quickly. This was an opportunity the Sentinels didn't waste: the one farthest away fired more lasers, while the nearest one swung a punch with its right fist.
The lasers missed, and the punch was blocked by two petal-shaped extensions that sprouted thorns, damaging the robot further. Velariel took advantage of the close range to climb up the Sentinel's arm and run to its head, decapitating it.
With her scorpion tails ready and lightening her body's density, she launched herself at the last Sentinel, repeating the strike she had used on the first one, only this time without an explosion, as the centipedes pierced directly into its head.
"ROUND 5, DIFFICULTY: HARD, COMPLETED. NEW RECORD TIME," announced a mechanical voice. However, the young girl, who was already shedding her natural armor, paid no attention to the notification, as her focus was on something even more important.
