Chapter 11 - Chapter Eleven

Silvia 's pov

Life is a relentless cycle of hellos and goodbyes, and just when you think you've escaped one inferno, you find yourself leaping into another. But perhaps the only silver lining to my new hell is that it might not be a waste if I endure. I've faced the worst—now all I can do is hope that my nightmares don't return.

Five days have passed since I fled the suffocating grasp of the orphanage, a place that has carved more scars into me than any traitor caught in a storm. Each mark, both physical and emotional, tells a story of survival. But resilience has become my armor, and I refuse to be broken.

As I sit on this cold, hard bench, I'm reminded that survival comes with its own price. My birthday is looming, just days away, yet I find myself wondering if I even deserve to celebrate. My stomach rumbles, a harsh reminder that food has become a luxury rather than a necessity. For the last few days, I've scoured the streets for scraps, desperately hoping to stave off starvation.

Yesterday, someone showed me kindness—a rarity in this world. A stranger offered me food and, with it, a fleeting glimpse of warmth. He took me to his home, provided me with clothes, and allowed me to clean myself in a bathroom that felt like a palace after the filth I had endured. But deep down, I sensed his intentions; I told myself I could handle whatever came next.

Long story short, I awoke with no memory of the night after accepting a drink from him. What happened in those lost hours? I don't want to remember, but the shrouded memories gnaw at my mind. I found myself in a hospital, my body bruised and broken. For days, I couldn't walk or even see. But then, like a beacon in the darkness, a compassionate woman came into my life. She paid my hospital bills and nursed me back to health, embodying the mother I had longed for all my life.

She was everything to me—until she became nothing. On my 18th birthday, she passed away, leaving me reeling in a fog of confusion and guilt. How could I forget the circumstances of her death? What darkness had enveloped me that day? My imagination spiraled into chaos, each thought a specter haunting my waking hours.

I found solace in a coffee shop, a place that became my refuge. I poured my heart into work, saving every penny. With the funds she had left for me, I secured a tiny apartment and built a life. Over time, I fell in love with coffee, and with it, the dream of opening my own café blossomed. Everything was falling into place—until Drake walked back into my life.

Drake was my sanctuary in a world full of storms. With his boyish charm and soothing smile, he wrapped me in a cocoon of happiness. We became inseparable friends, and soon, he transformed into the love I never thought I'd find. But as life began to unfurl its promises, I found myself working harder than ever, striving for the café of my dreams. I took on two jobs, convinced that sacrifice would lead to success.

Then the unthinkable happened: Drake cheated. I forgave him—how could I not? He claimed it was a moment of weakness, a result of my absence. I believed him, but history repeated itself. Each betrayal chipped away at my heart until I was too exhausted to care.

When I finally secured the café building, I felt a glimmer of hope. I invited Drake on a date, hoping to rekindle our connection, but he stood me up. Humiliated, I stormed to his house, only to discover the truth of his infidelity once more. Anger consumed me; I couldn't be dragged down by his choices any longer. I broke up with him, finally ready to close that painful chapter.

But Drake wasn't ready to let go. His rage erupted, and I found myself tied to a chair in his living room, the air thick with tension. He unleashed his fury, treating me like a mere rag doll, his words laced with venom. In that moment, I longed to cry, to show any sign of weakness—but I wouldn't give him that satisfaction.

Then she appeared—a stunning woman with a predatory glint in her eyes. She demanded a stone. I didn't understand why they were seeking something I had no connection to, but before I could protest, the woman plunged a knife into my side. The world blurred into darkness.

I woke in a clinic to find Xavier at my bedside. Someone I had long since buried in my past. I never expected to see him again, yet here he was, helping me through the wreckage of my life. The truth hung heavy between us; he wasn't engaged or married, and I couldn't shake the feeling that everything had changed while I'd been lost in my own turmoil.

Now, I grapple with the revelation of my own identity—a wolf among wolves. My heart races at the thought, the urge to embrace this new reality battling with my fears.

As I stand on the precipice of uncertainty, I know one thing for sure: there is more to this life than I ever imagined. The question is, how far can I go before I break?
