Luciel licked his lips at the smell of sweet, delicious human blood.
He was starving, especially now when his body had to use some extra energy to heal itself.
He whipped the salvia that started to appear on the corner of his lips as he identified the direction it was coming from.
"From where?" Melisa asked once she heard the mention of blood.
"If my nose serves me right, I would say the old factory we headed to."
"Hm.... Might be a trap, let's investigate first, keep your senses sharp." Melisa warned. At first, finding shelter in a rundown factory didn't sound like a bad idea, but the colony was being overrun by other supernatural creatures. They couldn't be the only ones with the same idea.
Luciel nodded and took the lead, slowly approaching the factory while following the smell that was getting closer.
"Wait!" He ordered, stopping once more. Now once they came closer, he could smell something else.
Besides the human blood that was the strongest, there was a sweet honey-like smell that the vampires would emit.
"What is it?"
"The human, he's not alone. There is at least one vampire, maybe more."
Melisa scratched her chin a little and looked towards the ground. She believed what Luciel had said was true, but he didn't know the number whereas an experienced vampire would.
There was also a chance that the opposing force already noticed them. The best course of action right now would be to retreat.
If it turns out that those vampires weren't friendly, it might cost them their lives. Neither she nor Luciel were ready for another fight.
They were exhausted after what happened. If they want to survive, finding shelter, taking a good rest, and searching for food was their best option.
Besides, Melisa didn't want any unnecessary distraction. They only have around five months left to save Kai! The vampires Nosferatu had sent found very little information.
The only lead they had was this human named Helen or something, but they never told her the last name.
The problem was, how was she supposed to find her with a vampire that doesn't even know how many enemies are in one building!
"Let's go then, it's too risky. We don't even know how many are there and how powerful they are."
"No," Luciel refused, clenching his fist as all kinds of images started to run through his head. Running away was a logical solution, but right now, that wasn't an option.
"No?! What do you mean by no?" Melisa raised her voice slightly, growling at Luciel.
"If there is a scent of human blood and the vampire, you know what that means."
Even if he wanted to, he couldn't just run away. The little bit of human side that he was still holding on didn't let him.
He could still remember the terrifying scene from the time he was young.
When he was going home with his mom and three other siblings - his older sister and two brothers, one was older and another was younger. They got attacked by a group of vampires that kidnapped them and led to some kind of ruins.
They trapped them in some kind of a cage with the others, and treated them like livestock.
The vampires would kill the older humans, using them as food while raising the younger ones until they were old enough to carry children. They were forcing them to reproduce in inhuman conditions.
Luciel and his siblings were too young for the vampires to fully use them, they would only drink their blood, being careful not to kill them, but accidents happened and unfortunately, the youngest was one of those accidents.
And their mother? The vampires drank almost all of her blood, but instead of putting her out of her misery, they turned her into a bloodthirsty bloodhound for no reason.
Luciel was only nine years old when all of that happened, he couldn't even remember his mother's face, the last thing he could remember was a loud gunshot and darkness right after he got attacked by a bloodsucking beast, biting his neck.
When he woke up, he found himself in a hospital in a room with four beds. On one bed he was currently lying on, the other three belonged to his sister, Aisha, the second one was being used by his older brother, Issac, and the fourth one belonged to his dad.
Their father was staying with them for the whole time. He was an ordinary hunter, the one that would hunt animals, but he still went with the vampire hunters with only one goal in mind, to save his family.
Unfortunately, he was late and he cannot help but to blame himself, even if he knew that he couldn't do anything.
Even if eighteen years had passed, Luciel still couldn't get those images out of his head. That event had pushed him to become a vampire hunter, to protect his loved ones and those who could not protect themselves.
He never regretted his job, especially after seeing more of those human farms and he brought them all to the ground, not only that, but he was killing every vampire in sight.
One bloodsucker less allowed for someone to live on longer.
'And look at me now.' He snickered at the irony. He swore to kill every single one, but instead, he was salivating at the smell of blood. Not only that, but he was staying in their nest and even got closer to some - Kai and Nosferatu, unfortunately, his relationship with Melisa was a bit wobbly.
"Luciel?!" He heard a faint call coming from Melisa.
"Hey, Luciel!" After not getting any answers, Melisa finally decided to hit Luciel's shoulder, trying to get his attention. She had been calling him for some time now but didn't get a response.
"Sorry, I was just thinking."
"We don't have time for that. Let's just go before they notice us." Melisa rolled her eyes, feeling annoyed.
"We can't just leave them."
"What do you mean? They are just humans."
Luciel growled when he heard the tone of Melisa's voice. Cold and uncaring, it seems like he hoped for too much when he found out that Kai and Melisa used to be humans. They weren't any better than the rest of those beasts.
"You sound just like the rest of those disguising vampires." He spitted on the ground.
"What did you say?" Melisa slowly started to raise her voice, baring her fangs.
"They saved me!" She shouted, stomping her foot onto the roof of the house, causing some roof tiles to fall down on the ground.
"And they used my family as livestock! Slaughtered my brother in cold blood, turned my mother into a bloodhound! Killed Helen's sister! And there are thousands and thousands of people suffering in the same way!"
Luciel shouted at the top of his lungs, breathing heavily. In the heat of the moment, he almost slapped Melisa, but managed to hold back.
Minutes of silence followed after this exchange between the two. They had nothing left to say.
Both were furious, wanting to listen to their morals while achieving their goals, but they could see each other point of view.
There was Melisa who, with her twin brother, got abounded by their parents, got almost killed by the werewolves, and got saved by the vampire. They welcomed them as their own, gave them power, and ultimately raised them, giving them a family they never had.
And on the other side, we had Luciel, a person who lost a lot because of them in his early years of life.
"Are you sure you heard something?"
Luciel and Melisa widened their eyes once they heard the sound of someone approaching them, and he was not alone.
Thanks to their bickering, they were found out.
"Yes, I'm sure of it."
"All right, but what about the kids?"
"Don't worry, Lady Seline is watching over them."
"But she can't fight."
"Don't worry, Daniel and the big guy should come soon. The sun might be out, but they always return.. "
