Chereads / The Crimson Reaper / Chapter 38 - Let's Dance

Chapter 38 - Let's Dance

Luciel and Melisa reached the deeper parts of the colony.

The calm and quiet environment was creeping out the duo that was slowly making their way inside the residential area.

While still belonging to the poor, this place used to be full of life, so seeing it dead like this would put some people into panic.

"Do you smell or see anything?" Melisa asked, feeling a little bit restless.

While she didn't have the vampire's sense of smell and sight, she could amplify her hearing.

With the help of her ability, she could amplify the sound waves that were coming towards her, allowing her to pick up a wide range of frequencies.

The only downside to this was that her ability had to be constantly active which can become tiring after some time.

"Nothing," Luciel answered her after sniffing the air a few times.

He could smell old trash that was left around and urine, but that was it.

"Maybe we should start making our way towards the church in the middle circle. There is a shelter, so maybe we can find some people and information." Luciel suggested, there was no point in lingering around here.

"The church, I hate that place," Melisa mumbled under her breath.

"The feeling is mutual." Luciel's eyes started to glow vibrant red just at the mention of them.

Once he found out that the Church had been teaching them an incomplete technique that shortened the vampire hunter's lifespan and had their fingers in their deaths once they reached the age of 40, Luciel swore to find out why and bring them all to the ground.

The two continued to walk until Melisa froze on the spot. A few seconds later, Luciel followed.

He could smell a sweet honey scent coming from the left while Melisa could hear footsteps.

"Vampires." He warned her, getting into a fighting stance, and taking out his black, iron sword.

He went closer to Melisa, going back to back as they kept an eye on their surroundings, waiting for a possible attack.

"On your left!" Melisa shouted, hearing something flying through the air.

Luciel quickly turned around and saw an ice spike heading straight towards his head.

Raising his sword and taking a step forward, he quickly cut it in half, making it drop in two pieces onto the ground.

Seeing the direction of the attack, Melisa went in front of Luciel and screamed towards the place the attack had come from, raising the dust from the ground and making huge cracks in the old houses.

Luciel frowned at hearing a loud sound that was bouncing from the buildings. It felt painful, but nothing that he could not handle.

He already experienced what it meant to be directly hit by Melisa's attack, so right now, he was glad that he was just collateral damage and not the victim.

"Did you get him?" He asked her once she finally stopped with her attack, trying to catch her breath.

"No…" She answered, staring into the distance.

Inside one of the old houses, Luciel noticed a pair of red eyes that were staring at them from afar.

"You are in our territory." It hissed, showing no hospitality.

"Their territory? What does he mean?" Luciel asked, feeling a little bit confused, last time he checked, this land belonged to humans living in the Paradise Colony.

"I don't know, but we are soon going to find out," Melisa said, baring her fangs as she got ready for the fight.

From the dust Melisa's attack had created, an enemy finally decided to show himself, cleaning his clothes.

"Get out!" The male vampire ordered, hissing at his opponents before raising both of his hands into the air.

Four dozen white, glittering ice spikes started to appear above his head. Moving one of his arms forward, he sent all of the forty-eight spikes towards Luciel.

Seeing the projectiles approaching him at a fast speed, Luciel raised his sword into the air.

Once the first spike had reached him, he leaned his body a little onto the right, causing the sharp object to make a small cut on his face, right below his eye.

When the second spike approached, one second after the first, he spun around, cutting it in half with his sword before dodging the next one.

While keeping the rhythm of gracefully dodging and cutting the icy projectiles, like he was dancing, he was slowly approaching his opponent, wanting to turn this fight into close-range combat.

Reading the situation, Melisa wanted to help him, but she couldn't because of the two problems.

If she used her ability, Luciel would get hurt and the enemy had some way of negating her sound waves.

The second problem was a huge, bulky vampire that jumped in front of her.

She had never seen such a muscular vampire in her whole life. He was at least 7 feet tall and his muscles were wide as her whole slim body.

If that vampire would try to get into their nest, he would probably get stuck in the entrance.

The giant vampire bumped his fists before sending one at Melisa, but instead of hitting her, he punched the hard concrete, creating a huge crater.

Melisa dodged the attack by jumping into the air, making a back flip, and landing behind him.

Now when Luciel wasn't in her line of fire, she took in a big breath and stomped her foot against the ground.

She moved her hands a little bit backward before pushing them forward, and at the same time, releasing a high-pitched scream at her enemy.

The blood started to flow from his ears, but he didn't move an inch despite the pain.

Once Melisa was done with her attack, the vampire leaned forward a little and let out a terrifying scream at her.

Saliva splattered around as he yelled, some drops even fell on Melisa's face, making her look at the vampire in disgust.

The muscular vampire didn't care about pain or injuries, he only went for a kill. All muscles and no brain.

"All right big guy, let's dance then." Melisa cracked her neck before stretching her fingers.

The bulky opponent roared and sent another punch towards his opponent.

Anticipating an attack, Melisa jumped onto his arm in a crouch, digging her claws into his flesh before sending a kick straight into his head.

Once she made contact, she heard something crack, but it wasn't his cerebrum, but her leg.

Growling, with one swing of his arm, the bulky vampire had sent Melisa flying where Luciel was having a fight of his own.

While Melisa was struggling, Luciel seemed to have an interesting fight.

He managed to get in a close range and they continued to battle it out. With no time to form his attacks, the vampire created a sword made out of ice, matching Luciel's moves.

The sound of clashing swords could be heard echoing in the area until Luciel felt a strong numb pain in his abdomen, jumping back a few meters.

He looked down and saw that an ice spike was stabbed into his abdomen with blood flowing out.

While they were fighting, the vampire must have found an opening for a quick and dirty attack.

Biting his lip, Luciel grabbed the spike and slowly pulled it out.

Looking forward, seeing his opponent already rushing towards him, going to cut his head off with the ice sword.

Luciel hissed, revealing his fangs before quickly ducking under the sword, still holding the spike which he aimed at the vampire's chest.

"Shit." The vampire in question said to himself after he noticed what was going on.

He thought he finally had him since he managed to deliver a big injury to his opponent.

Even if vampires had supernatural healing abilities, he never expected his opponent to be left standing, especially if they were a newborn, like Luciel.

In a second, Luciel stabbed the spike through his opponent's heart, killing the light in his eyes.

He stood up victorious, breathing heavily before leaning forward a little, walking back towards his sword he dropped when he was stabbed, picking it up.

He huffed and placed his hand on his wound, applying pressure. Luciel could feel the wound healing itself as new tissue was being formed, but rest was still not the option, the fight was still going.

Melisa flew straight past him until she hit the wall of an old house, but Luciel ignored her for now since he still had a job to do.

She groaned once her back hit a hard surface and fell to the ground.

Slowly opening her eyes, Melisa could see Luciel cutting off the vampire's head, reminding her that despite being kind of friendly with her and her twin brother, he was still a cold-blooded vampire hunter, despite walking in the skin of his enemy.

He stared at his sword, now stained with blood before taking a lick of the warm, thick liquid which tasted like honey.

One vampire was down, but there was still one more to go.
