Chapter 20 - Episode twenty

Faerie settled into the comfort of her small apartment, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm light over the pages of her latest book. She had always found solace in reading, escaping to worlds far removed from the judgmental eyes of Hera Academy and the complicated web of relationships that entangled her life. The evening was peaceful, and for a moment, she felt at ease, the weight of the day slipping away.

Just as she sank into the storyline, her phone rang, jolting her from her tranquility. She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Aaron's name flash before her. Taking a deep breath, she answered, curiosity mingling with a hint of apprehension.

"Come down. I'm outside," he said, his voice low and confident, before hanging up.

Confused but intrigued, Faerie set her book down and made her way to the door. The familiar creaking of the worn wooden stairs echoed in her mind as she descended. What could he possibly want at this hour?

When she stepped outside, the sight that greeted her made her heart race. Aaron was leaning casually against his sleek, black car, the epitome of confidence and allure. He looked like he belonged in a world far removed from her sketchy apartment complex. His designer clothes hugged his form perfectly, and the way he held himself exuded a magnetic charm that was impossible to ignore.

"Good evening, baby," he greeted with a smirk, his eyes glinting in the dim light.

Faerie rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile tugging at her lips. "What do you want, Blackwood?"

"Get in the car," he replied, the command laced with a playful tone.

She hesitated, glancing back at her modest home. "What are we doing?"

"Trust me. It'll be worth it." His voice was smooth, and for a moment, she considered the thrill of it. Against her better judgment, she found herself intrigued.

With one last look at her surroundings, she stepped closer, the evening air tinged with excitement and uncertainty. She opened the door and slid into the passenger seat, the luxurious interior swallowing her in comfort. Aaron slid in beside her, the engine purring to life as they pulled away from her neighborhood.

"Where are we going?" she asked, trying to sound indifferent, but the thrill of anticipation bubbled inside her.

"A surprise," he said, glancing over with a mischievous grin. "You'll love it."

As they drove through the city, the lights flickered past like stars in the night sky, and Faerie felt an undeniable sense of adventure. She glanced at Aaron, who was focused on the road, his expression a mixture of determination and excitement. Despite herself, she found her heart racing—not just from the speed, but from the magnetic pull between them.

Eventually, they arrived at a luxurious restaurant, its grand facade illuminated by soft lights that danced like fireflies. Faerie stepped out of the car, her eyes wide as she took in the elegance surrounding her. It seemed so out of reach, a world she had only glimpsed through the windows of the academy.

"Wow," she breathed, feeling slightly out of place but also invigorated by the atmosphere. "You go to places like this often?"

"Only for special occasions," he replied, his tone playful yet sincere. "And tonight feels special, don't you think?"

Faerie shrugged, trying to maintain her trademark attitude. "Or just a way for you to show off."

As they entered, the ambiance enveloped them. Soft music played in the background, and the scents of gourmet cuisine wafted through the air, making her stomach growl in anticipation. She couldn't help but feel a thrill at being here, even if she was putting on a façade of indifference.

Aaron led her to a table with a breathtaking view of the city skyline, the lights twinkling like stars. As they settled into their seats, he studied her with an intensity that made her heart race.

"So, tell me," he began, leaning forward slightly, "what do you think of my little surprise?"

"It's nice," she replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "But don't think this changes anything between us."

He chuckled, a low, deep sound that sent a shiver down her spine. "Who said it was meant to change anything? I just wanted to treat you to a good meal."

"Right," she said, her tone teasing. "Just like you treat all your little charity cases, I bet."

His expression shifted, becoming serious. "You're not a charity case, Faerie. You're more than that. You're tough, and you don't let anyone push you around. I admire that about you."

Her heart fluttered at his words, and she quickly masked her surprise with a scoff. "Flattery won't get you anywhere, Aaron."

"Maybe not, but I'm willing to try," he said, his voice low and captivating. "You know, I can see why Felix is so drawn to you. You're different."

"Different how?" she challenged, leaning back in her chair.

He leaned closer, a smirk playing on his lips. "You don't take anyone's nonsense. You stand your ground, even against someone like me."

Faerie felt a flicker of guilt as his words sank in. Was she really just playing games? Part of her craved the thrill of their banter, the electricity that sparked between them. But she couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal she felt towards Felix. She glanced out the window, lost in thought.

"Still thinking about him, huh?" Aaron's voice broke through her reverie, teasing yet somehow knowing.

She snapped her gaze back to him, feigning indifference. "What makes you think I care about Felix?"

"Because you do," he replied, his tone growing serious again. "You can deny it all you want, but I can see it in the way you look at him, even when you're trying to be tough. There's something there."

Faerie took a deep breath, her defenses rising. "I'm not interested in him like that. He's just… complicated."

"Complicated? You mean he's a mess?" Aaron chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "You're right about that."

As their meal was served, Faerie tried to focus on the food, but the undercurrent of tension hung in the air. She could feel the battle within her—the attraction to Aaron and the lingering connection to Felix, a confusing mix that made her stomach churn.

"I didn't bring you here to talk about Felix," Aaron said suddenly, breaking her thoughts. "I want to get to know you better, Faerie. The real you."

She met his gaze, feeling the weight of his words. Maybe this was what she needed—a distraction, a way to push back against the chaos in her life. But was it fair to Aaron? She felt guilty for wanting to indulge in this moment when Felix was still so raw in her heart.

As they continued to talk, the tension between them shifted, and for a moment, Faerie allowed herself to enjoy the evening, to forget the complications of her life. But deep down, she knew she was playing with fire. Would she risk everything for a taste of this dangerous game?

The evening was just beginning, and she was caught in a web of desire and uncertainty, one that would test her resolve in ways she could never have imagined.
