Chanelle Montgomery sat in the sunlit corner of the lavish cafeteria, surrounded by her usual entourage of equally privileged friends. The air was thick with laughter and gossip, the soft clinking of silverware punctuating their conversations. Chanelle was in the midst of discussing the latest designer handbags when one of her friends, Ivy, leaned in closer, her expression shifting from playful to serious.
"Have you heard the news about Faerie?" Ivy asked, lowering her voice as if she were sharing a scandalous secret.
Chanelle arched an eyebrow, her interest piqued. "What about that scholarship brat?" she replied dismissively, stirring her smoothie absentmindedly. She had long dismissed Faerie as a non-threat—a mere annoyance in her world of opulence.
Ivy exchanged glances with the others before continuing. "Felix just announced in the cafeteria that she's his girlfriend!"
The news hit Chanelle like a slap to the face. She dropped her spoon, the metal clattering against her pristine porcelain plate. "What?!" she exclaimed, her voice rising in disbelief. "That's ridiculous! Felix would never choose her over me."
"Apparently, he just stood up and declared it in front of everyone. The whole cafeteria went wild," another friend, Melissa, chimed in, clearly enjoying Chanelle's reaction.
Chanelle felt a surge of anger bubbling inside her. The idea of Felix—her Felix—publicly claiming Faerie as his girlfriend sent waves of fury crashing over her. "That little nobody thinks she can just waltz into our world and take what's mine?" Chanelle fumed, her manicured fingers gripping the edge of the table tightly.
"Maybe it's a publicity stunt," Ivy suggested, trying to soothe her friend. "You know how he loves the attention."
"Or maybe he genuinely thinks he can make her into some sort of trophy," Chanelle snapped, her eyes blazing. "She doesn't belong here. I won't let her take him away from me."
With a huff, Chanelle pushed her chair back, standing abruptly. "I need to talk to Felix," she declared, her voice steely with determination. The girls exchanged wary glances, sensing the brewing storm in Chanelle.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Melissa asked, a hint of concern in her tone. "What if he's serious about her?"
Chanelle shot her a fierce glare. "It doesn't matter if he is. I'll make sure he knows that I'm the only one who deserves his attention. He can't just throw me aside for some girl who doesn't even fit in."
With that, Chanelle stormed out of the cafeteria, her heels clicking sharply against the polished floor. Her mind raced with a mix of indignation and determination. She made her way through the opulent hallways of Hera Academy, the walls adorned with art and accolades that reminded her of her status.
As she approached Felix's favorite lounge, she could hear laughter and chatter spilling out from within. She took a moment to compose herself, smoothing her hair and adjusting her designer dress. There was no way she would allow anyone to see her vulnerable side.
Taking a deep breath, Chanelle pushed open the door, her entrance immediate and commanding. The laughter died down as heads turned to look at her, eyes wide with curiosity. Felix was sitting casually on a plush sofa, surrounded by a group of admirers, including Faerie, who was sitting comfortably next to him.
Chanelle's stomach twisted at the sight. Felix's relaxed demeanor, the way he leaned toward Faerie as if she were the only one in the room, ignited a fire within her. She could feel the eyes of the room on her, and it fueled her anger.
"Felix!" Chanelle called out, her voice dripping with a mixture of bravado and indignation. "Can we talk? Now."
Felix looked up, surprise crossing his face. "Chanelle? What's up?" His casual tone only added to her irritation.
"Out here," she insisted, motioning for him to follow her outside. She didn't wait for his response and strode out of the lounge, her heels echoing on the marble floor. She could feel the weight of everyone's stares as she stepped into the hallway, and she relished the attention.
Felix followed her, his expression shifting to one of mild concern as he caught up with her. "What's going on? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Chanelle spun on her heel to face him, her eyes ablaze with fury. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" she spat, her voice low and fierce. "Declaring Faerie as your girlfriend? Are you out of your mind?"
Felix raised an eyebrow, taken aback by her outburst. "I thought we had an understanding, Chanelle. It's not like we were exclusive or anything."
"That's not the point!" she snapped, pacing back and forth. "You're ruining everything. Faerie doesn't belong in our world. She's just a charity case, a scholarship student. You're making a joke out of yourself."
Felix frowned, his irritation beginning to rise. "You know what? Maybe it's time for you to realize that this is not just about you. I can make my own choices."
Chanelle's breath hitched in disbelief. "You're serious? You really think you can just choose her? She's nothing but trouble, Felix. She'll drag you down with her."
He crossed his arms, his demeanor shifting from surprise to defiance. "Maybe I like the trouble. Maybe I want to see what's beyond the perfect little box you've placed me in."
"Is that really what you want?" Chanelle asked, her voice dropping as she stepped closer, trying to pierce through the façade. "You want to be with someone like her? You have everything, Felix. Don't throw it away on a girl who doesn't even know what she's getting into."
Felix sighed, frustration etched across his features. "This isn't about you, Chanelle. It's about what I want. And right now, that's Faerie."
Chanelle clenched her fists, the realization hitting her like a punch to the gut. "You're making a mistake," she warned, her voice trembling with intensity. "You'll regret this."
With that, she turned on her heel and stormed away, her heart racing. She could feel the weight of defeat settle in her chest, the simmering anger transforming into something deeper—fear. Fear that she was losing Felix, fear that she had underestimated Faerie's impact on him.
As Chanelle made her way through the halls, her mind raced with thoughts of how to regain control. She refused to let Faerie take what was rightfully hers. With determination hardening in her chest, she began plotting her next move, ready to fight for the attention and love that she believed she deserved.
