"Miss Medeia, tell me, what are you feeling? Do you have a bad headache?"
A doctor named Rory asked her so many questions. He examined her body over and over again and it made Medeia want to throw him into a cauldron.
"I'm fine." Medeia turned her head toward a bunch of people with serious injuries. Most of them were hunters who tried to fight the mutant, while others were elderly people who couldn't run when the spider attacked the village. "You better treat them first."
After the flames burned the church, the village chief, Eldric Grant, decided to move Sister Jeanne and the people who lived in the church to the old bakery factory.
Due to its vast size, the factory was used as an infirmary. Hence, there were many patient beds and medicine boxes everywhere.
"Sister Jeanne will treat them well, so I can check on you," said dr. Rory.
Unexpectedly, Sister Jeanne had the ability to heal others. Because of her useful ability, the villagers respected her so much and always put her safety first before others.
"I'm really fine, dr. Rory," reassured Medeia.
"Miss Medeia, you've been in a coma for a week and suddenly you're beating a grade-D mutant when you wake up. Anyone who hears this will definitely suspect that there's something wrong with you."
Medeia let out a tired sigh. "I was just lucky! The mutant was too slow and stupid, so I could kill it quickly."
Dr. Rory said, "I saw the spider's attack before it broke into the church and I knew it wasn't slow at all."
"Okay, let's imagine something with me. A monster broke into your house and it wants to eat your children, what will you do, dr. Rory?"
"I … I'll try my best to kill it."
"Bingo!" Medeia snapped her fingers. "When a child is in danger, everyone will suddenly gain great power, and I ... just happen to be able to kill a monster."
Dr. Rory didn't seem satisfied with her answer. "Don't get me wrong, Miss Medeia. I'm grateful you could save the children, but I'm worried you'll transition into the Lost again."
One week ago, the real Medeia couldn't maintain her sanity and eventually transitioned into the Lost. However, her transition suddenly changed and dr. Rory had never seen a miracle like that.
"Let me tell you a secret." Medeia signaled him to get closer, then whispered, "I think heaven gives me a mission to save humanity."
Dr. Rory widened his eyes. "You mean like a prophet?"
Medeia nodded. "Something like that. That's why I can become stronger and maybe even more powerful in the future."
Well, the system was some kind of omniscient being, so Medeia wasn't lying. But the interesting thing was that dr. Rory believed her nonsense.
"When you say it like that, it makes sense. You're the only one who can turn back to normal again." Dr. Rory held her hands. "Miss Medeia, I know that God will never abandon someone like you."
The villagers knew the real Medeia as the sweetest and kindest woman in the whole village. Since coming to Willow Village five years ago, she had always tried to help people in need and decided to stay at the church with Sister Jeanne to take care of the orphans.
There were times when the real Medeia would give food rations to others or try to summon water with her weak mana.
Medeia was getting goosebumps all over her hands when she saw all of those good deeds in her mind.
Suddenly, the system announced something weird.
[Your main mission is to find a sexy-hot, kind-hearted husband in the apocalypse!]
[But before you date a kind-hearted man, you should also have a pure and soft heart!]
Oh, fuck off.
How could a cruel demon queen have a good heart?
She had lived in Hell for a hundred years, torturing the darkest and most vile human souls.
She had never seen kindness in Hell, not even once. The only thing that had kept her alive for so long was her power and her obedience to the demon king.
But now she didn't have any powerful magic in her, and she didn't want to serve anyone more powerful than herself anymore.
Kindness.
Haha, What bullshit.
She wouldn't survive with kindness in such a dangerous place like this world.
"Miss Medeia, something wrong?" asked dr. Rory when he saw Medeia suddenly felt silence.
"Nothing. Dr. Rory, can you give me a glass of water?" Medeia touched her neck because she felt her throat was a bit dry.
"Ah, I really want to give you water, but it's impossible for now."
Medeia raised one of her eyebrows. "Why?"
Dr. Rory scratched his head and smiled awkwardly. "There's no water in the well because the rains didn't come this summer. The hunters are trying to get water from the lake in the forest, but there are a lot of dangerous mutants around the water source."
From Medeia's memory, the village had run out of water for two days. The high grade hunters could survive without food and water for two weeks, but the lower grade humans would die within four days.
The elderly might not even pass the third day.
Ah, that was why the system gave her a mission to solve their water shortage with her ability.
The real Medeia had the ability to summon water, but her mana was so weak that she could only summon enough water to fill one glass of water before she passed out from exhaustion.
Hence, the villagers never asked Medeia to summon water using her ability again.
But with her current mana, Medeia was certain she could fill the well easily.
"I want to meet the village chief," said Medeia to dr. Rory.
Dr. Rory didn't know why Medeia was so eager to meet the chief, but he still asked Simon to take Medeia to find the chief.
"I guess Chief Eldric is near the well with Grandpa Noris to cut off the meat." Simon said, "Our hunting group was lucky to capture a mutant boar."
"Can't you leave more high grade hunters in the village? Maybe another mutant will come again."
Simon seemed guilty about what happened earlier when he said, "I know, but the forest is such a dangerous place, so we can't let unskilled people go there. Besides, this is the first time a monster has attacked the village."
"First time?"
Simon explained that because the village was surrounded by gorges and massive rocks, not many monsters roamed around the village.
However, the probability was never zero, so they knew the monsters would eventually attack the village.
Simon sighed. "After one monster attacks the village, I'm certain others will come soon or later."
Unfortunately, they couldn't move from the village because the elderly couldn't keep up and many villagers refused to abandon them.
"Foolish." Medeia spoke in a low voice so Simon couldn't hear it.
Not long after, they arrived at the village square. Chief Eldric Grant, a middle-aged man with sun-battered skin and heavy shoulders, stood beside Grandpa Noris. He was distributing mutant boar meat to the villagers and smiled warmly as he saw Medeia walking toward him.
"Miss Medeia, why are you here? I just asked my son to bring the meat to the factory," asked Chief Eldric.
"I want to meet you, Chief." Medeia approached the well and tapped the locked lid several times. "I heard from Dr. Rory, we don't have water anymore."
Chief Eldric let out a forlorn sigh. "He's right. That's why I can't give you water, even just a glass."
Medeia smiled. "Don't worry. I'm not here to ask for water, but I want to use my ability to fill the well."
Chief Eldric frowned his forehead and chuckled softly as if he regarded Medeia's words as a mere joke.
"Miss Medeia, I know you've been trying your best to help others since you came here, but you can't do something that you aren't able to do," responded Chief Eldric.
Medeia shrugged. "I killed a monster, the one that you might think of as an impossible task."
"That's … that's a different story."
"What's the difference? Isn't this proof that I have miracles within me?" Medeia tapped on the lid. "Now open it before I break it myself."
Chief Eldric exchanged glances with Simon and the hunter couldn't help but say, "There is no harm in trying."
Chief Eldric eventually opened the well and let Medeia approach it. The people who had been queuing to get meat suddenly felt Medeia looked more interesting than meat.
[Activating skills: Summoning Water]
[Select Amount of Water to Summon: 1,000 Liters (Cost: 2,000 Mana) // 2,000 Liters (Cost: 4,000 Mana) // 2,500 Liters (Cost: 5,000 Mana)]
Medeia chose 2,000 liters because she wanted to save the rest of the water for herself, but the system didn't want Medeia to choose it.
[The system suggests summoning the maximum amount of water so that the villagers can get more water supply]
The system wasn't kidding when it wanted Medeia to have a pure heart and help others sincerely. It even wanted her to become selfless and put others before herself.
However, how could Medeia become selfless in the apocalypse? She could learn to be kind, but selflessness would lead her to death more quickly.
She argued with the system in her mind, 'If I don't drink enough water and get sick, how can I continue to help them get water?'
[The system found your explanation made sense]
[Activating Skills: Summoning 2,000 Liters of Water]
[Lvl 2 effect activated: Increase the amount of water by 50%]
Medeia raised her hand over the well. A faint blue light shimmered around her fingertips as water began to drip into the well. The trickle slowly became a steady flow, filling the well with fresh water.
The villagers gasped as the water rose to the surface. Whispers of disbelief rippled through the crowd and they cheered for her in astonishment.
"Did you see that? Miss Medeia summoned water!"
"Am I dreaming? Does this mean we won't be short of water this summer?"
Chief Eldric was still standing by the well. He shook his head in disbelief, his eyes fixed on Medeia. "This … this is a miracle!"
Some of the villagers couldn't help but cry because they didn't expect to get so much water without waiting for the rain.
Moreover, the water was clear and fresh, so they did not have to filter it before drinking.
"It's a blessing! God has blessed our village through Miss Medeia!"
