Chapter 32 - Made Your Choice

The women slowly stood up, each looking at the other with confused expressions, waiting for the first among them to make a move toward the broken-down gate.

Emily keenly observed each of their expressions; she saw reluctance, fear of the unknown beyond the gate. And that's when it hit her: ever since the apocalypse, these women had always stayed here.

That's why, despite some being determined to leave, they were hesitant. She almost wanted to laugh; she'd had some of their friends killed, and instead of throwing caution to the wind and high-tailing it, they were hesitating.

Emily wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by. To build a settlement, she needed people, and there was no way she was letting them leave. She might look like she knew what she was doing, but quite frankly, she had no idea.

And the people in her group weren't going to be much help either. Vixie was a joker, a wild card who sought freedom more than anything.
