Looking at Shigeru with questioning eyes, Tsunade began to blush.
"Don't look at me like that! Katsuyu Sennin said I have no talent!"
The truth was out.
With Tsunade's character, she shouldn't give up even if her talent isn't great. But in this area—emotion—she has no talent at all.
No wonder she feels guilty talking about it.
It's not that she doesn't want to learn; she truly can't. Learning Sage Jutsu requires immense talent, and it's extremely dangerous. One wrong move, and you're done for.
I wonder how different learning Sage Jutsu in the Shikkotsu Forest is compared to Mount Myōboku.
"Boom!"
Tsunade quickly formed a seal, slapped her palm on the floor, and a palm-sized slug appeared.
"Tsunade-sama, what do you need?" a crisp female voice echoed in the room.
The Katsuyu from the Shikkotsu Forest is different from the toads of Mount Myōboku and the snakes of Ryūchi Cave. There is only one Katsuyu in the Shikkotsu Forest—Katsuyu Sage.
The little Katsuyu that appeared was a split body of Katsuyu Sage, a differentiated part of the whole.
The size of the summoned Katsuyu is related to the chakra used. The more chakra, the larger the Katsuyu.
If you didn't see her appearance but only heard her voice, you'd assume Katsuyu Sennin was an otherworldly beauty. But alas, she's a slug. A very, very large slug.
Tsunade glared at Shigeru angrily. "I want him to sign a contract with Katsuyu Sage. I hope Katsuyu Sennin can check whether he can learn Sage Jutsu in the Shikkotsu Forest."
Didn't you say you didn't want to sign a contract? Well, you're signing it now!
By the way, I'll find out if you have the talent for Shikkotsu Forest's Sage Jutsu.
And if you don't? I'll laugh at you for a year straight!
Shigeru wasn't eager to learn Sage Jutsu, especially since it was dangerous. Why take the risk if you don't have to?
But Tsunade wouldn't let it go. "You're signing it," she insisted.
Resigned, Shigeru shook his head, bit his finger, and pressed his bloody fingerprint onto the contract scroll.
This scroll had been left by Senju Hashirama himself. But Hashirama's Wood Style was so powerful, Katsuyu didn't get much use.
After the contract was signed, the small Katsuyu disappeared, and soon enough, Shigeru and Tsunade were reverse-summoned to the Shikkotsu Forest.
The Shikkotsu Forest wasn't like a typical holy place. It was barren, filled with rocks and trees stripped of leaves. The area was teeming with Katsuyu, so much that anyone with trypophobia would be terrified.
At the center of the forest was a massive Katsuyu—Katsuyu Sage herself. All the smaller Katsuyu were parts of her.
"She's enormous," Shigeru muttered as he stared up at the colossal creature, estimating that she was even larger than the Nine Tails.
"Hello, Tsunade-chan," Katsuyu Sage said, her massive body shifting slightly.
"Hello, Katsuyu Sennin," Tsunade responded with a smile, though Shigeru noticed she seemed a bit guilty.
Had she done something to Katsuyu Sage?
"Hello, I am Katsuyu Sennin," the giant slug said, focusing on Shigeru. "Your chakra feels strange. I remember sensing something like it many years ago... how long was it?"
When Ōtsutsuki Kaguya planted the sacred tree, the three great sages—Katsuyu, White Snake, and Toad—already existed. The Toad Sage even helped the Sage of Six Paths learn Sage Jutsu and encouraged him to rebel against his mother.
But in the drama of the Six Paths brothers and Kaguya, only the Toad Sage had appeared.
"Katsuyu Sage, we're not here for a history lesson. I need you to test if he can learn Sage Jutsu in Shikkotsu Forest," Tsunade interrupted as Katsuyu Sage got lost in memories.
"Ah, yes, little Tsunade. Apologies, I was lost in thought. Since he's signed the contract, I will help him test his abilities."
"Are you ready, kid?" Katsuyu Sage asked as she loomed over Shigeru.
Tsunade quickly retreated, folding her arms with a smirk. She was ready for a show.
Shigeru sighed. "Katsuyu Sennin, what do I need to—wait, what?!"
Before he could finish, Katsuyu Sage moved her massive face closer, opening her mouth and swallowing Shigeru whole.
Wrapped in thick liquid, Shigeru was stunned.
Who am I? Where am I? What's happening?
Tsunade, meanwhile, burst into laughter. Finally, someone else had experienced the same terror she had when Katsuyu Sennin swallowed her whole. Covered in thick, greasy mucus, that sensation would haunt her forever.
Now it was Shigeru's turn.
Was this really how you learned Sage Jutsu in Shikkotsu Forest?
Completely covered in slime, Shigeru couldn't even move a finger. He was horrified.
Soon after, a force surged from beneath him, and Shigeru was spat out of Katsuyu Sage's mouth, flying through the air and landing hard on the ground. Fortunately, several smaller Katsuyu broke his fall, but he was still drenched in mucus.
"Ughhhh," Shigeru retched on the spot.
"Hahahahaha!" Tsunade laughed uncontrollably, sitting on the ground as she slapped it, unable to contain herself.
Shigeru glared at her. "Laugh all you want."
But the laughter only grew louder.
"Hmm, Tsunade-chan, he has great talent," Katsuyu Sage commented, seemingly unaware of why Tsunade was laughing. After all, as a giant slug, Katsuyu couldn't understand human humor.
