Chapter 30 - Chapter Thirty: Death

Chapter Thirty: Death {Bonus Chapter}

Spell card activation: Doom battlefield annihilation

As soon as these words were spoken, the winds in the area grew chaotic, sweeping across the entire battlefield, shattering trees and blasting beastmen like broken toys.

'So she's a candidate, huh?' Dusken smirked inwardly; he wasn't surprised in the least.

It wasn't due to any numbness to the revelation of Lillian's identity; rather, he had already suspected it without a doubt.

If she was a candidate, so what? Could she kill him? Her powers were great for a level one - overpowered even. However, this was night, and night was when his power shone the most.

He controlled the darkness, making it shroud his figure as he walked stealthily like an assassin.

Contrary to what people might expect, he was escaping, not bothering to fight any longer… at least not upfront.

A wise man knew when to advance and when to retreat. Lillian being a contestant didn't make sense to him, given the knowledge she possessed.

'Was everything she said false?' He asked himself inwardly while escaping.

The cold breeze blew by as his figure was shrouded by darkness, camouflaging his movements.

Standing behind a beastman, he raised his sword and stabbed it in the head, killing it instantly.

'Argh!' Letting out a groan inwardly, he endured the negativity.

[You have slain a level one awakened Beastman.]

[Your abyss within grows darker.]

Coupled with those negative emotions was strength; he had killed a lot of beastmen and noticed that the more he killed, the fewer Abysmal points he got.

'So, the stronger I get, the fewer Abysmal points I received from level ones.' This was how it naturally was even for exp.

Dusken was about to stealthily kill another beastman when he sensed something.

Perceiving through the darkness was very easy compared to the shadows. His strength in it was multiple times that of when in light.

He didn't tire easily, and his senses extended an impressive 120 meters through the darkness. In this range, he perceived everything in the surroundings.

However, his expression grew cold. The two beastmen kings had arrived.

Their shadows moved swiftly, so fast that Dusken could barely follow their movements through his dark sense.

Without bothering to warn Lillian, he ran away, fighting two level two awakened, coupled with tens of level one was a death sentence.

'Move faster, curse it.' He cursed inwardly. He was already so fast, but compared to the arriving beastmen king, his speed was lacklustre.

Dusken ran, dodging trees and stray arrows that flew by.

Suddenly, the roar of a beastman reached his ears.

"Where is the other one? He escaped! Hunt him down!" Many beastmen started roaring as they charged in every direction, searching for Dusken.

Lillian gained a little breather, escaping from the clutches of the beast-man. Her speed was not to be underestimated.

As soon as a beastman neared her, she would release a congealed air, boosting herself forward and making the beastmen feel frustrated.

Dusken sensed all this through his dark senses as he ran forward. The beastmen kings had arrived and were following after Lillian.

If not for my ability, I would already be dead meat.' He thought, shaking his head inwardly.

He neither had the strong physical bodies of the beastmen nor the overpowered ability of Lillian.

As Dusken ran, he used his dark flame to empower himself, boosting his physical capabilities and making his speed drastically improve.

Soon, his eyes widened as he sensed something. The cold air of the night was not impeded by the trees.

'The way out of the forest.' Dusken had sensed the outside world beyond the forest which meant that the escape of the forest was near.

Increasing his speed without care, he ran with all his might. Finally, the way out of the forest was before his eyes.

Suddenly, a cacophonous boom shook the area, sending everyone and everything flying backward.

Dusken was thrown through the air like a broken kite, landing with a heavy thud. His vision was blurry, even so, through the darkness, he could examine what was going on outside.

A young lady stood, her clothes clinging tightly to her body, a long pointy hat was on her head and her hands were covered in opera gloves that glided over her elbows.

"Bryan, give up; you can't stop me; the inheritance shall be mine." The young lady let out a dark chuckle.

A young man was completely clad in red and black armour sighed.

"Madonna, even if I die, I'll protect this inheritance till my last breath." The man uttered solemnly.

A bit far away from them was a star-shaped portal in the air.

That was the inheritance of the god of darkness, and both the witch and the young knight from the Starlian family battled for the entrance of it.

'So Lillian didn't lie?' Dusken thought as blood flowed out of his lips.

If Lillian was a candidate like him, then how did she know the background of the trial they were, unless…

Dusken immediately snapped out of his thoughts when he saw the star-shaped portal suddenly warp and change its shape.

The witch and the young man stopped fighting, staring at it in wariness.

Dusken observed all this through the darkness and for some reason, he had a bad premonition.

Currently, he was still immobile from the fall; the cold breeze of the night made him shiver, the smell of blood from the earlier battles still lingered, the trees in the surroundings stood still, and the metallic taste of blood in his mouth made him want to puke and pain swarm through his very being.

Just then, he sensed two swift shadows charging at his location, making his heart skip a bit.

It was a beastman and Lillian. However, the beastman was far ahead of her and it lunged at him when it got near. Dusken couldn't move and watching the beastman's opened mouth made a light blaze in his eyes.

From the depths of his being, something rose; a strength welled up within him, and through instinct, he tapped on that power, and suddenly, something from his shadow rose.

It was Ebon, its sharp nails shot at the beastman. With a roar, the alien crashed on the ground, as black smoke exuded from its arm, making it slowly turn into a liquid pool of dark water with only a core shard in the remains.

[You have slain a level one awakened beastman.]

[Your abyss within grows darker.]

Dusken's eyes widened as negativity surged in him.

'So if Ebon kills anything, I'll receive it? And those nails, if they had touched me earlier.' Cold sweat ran through his forehead at this thought. But then he moved his attention to the battle outside the forest.

The star-shaped portal was rapidly expanding, covering dozens of metres in seconds, moving to the forest as every lifeform around was sucked into it.

Madonna and the young man called Bryan weren't spared either.

'Curse it!' Dusken roared inwardly while struggling to get up. However, his legs buckled under his weight, causing him to fall again.

He started pulling himself along the ground to escape. However, just then, Lillian arrived before him and immediately pulled him up, carrying him as she ran.

"Don't ask me any questions." She said coldly before Dusken could even speak.

Even so, no matter how far they ran, the portal moved faster, absorbing all lifeforms in the area, including beastmen and creatures.

The atmosphere was filled with anxiety as Dusken found beastmen running side by side with them, not bothering to fight, just escaping for their lives.

Suddenly, the portal's speed drastically increased, covering tens of metres. Dusken could no longer sense anything within the portal's reach. The speed of its advancement was just too fast, absorbing both Dusken and Lillian in seconds.

Dusken's vision faded as a voice boomed through the surroundings.

"Welcome to the Inheritance of the Deity of Darkness. You all have 5 hours to fight for the inheritance, or death is your sentence."
